We are retired and love our home, especially the view and the quaint town, the beautiful, quiet beach. We love to have our children, and grandchildren over.
I always dreamed of owning a house at the ocean and managed to buy one at the best beach area anywhere!
We can get into our little boat from our backyard and go fishing or just go for a relaxing ride. It just doesn't get better than this! Add kayaks and paddle boards and it is more fun.
We stayed at Rick's Haven for 2 weeks in August 2016 and we had an incredible time. Irene was an excellent host and provided us with answers whenever we had questions. The location is great, just a couple minutes from the beach and direct access to the marsh for kayaking! We arrived on the Saturday to a spotless rental with fresh flowers to welcome us! I stayed with my husband and my 4 year old son and the space was perfect. He was too young to access the loft by himself but there was enough room to sleep three on the first floor. We are already counting the days until we can come back next year!
That is exactly how I feel when I come for a visit at Rick's Haven. I rented this adorable spot from Sept-Dec 2014. The unit is clean, comfortable and offers all of the conveniences of home. Pour yourself a cup of coffee or glass of wine and take in the stunning marsh view at dawn or dusk. The owner's dock offers kayak/canoe access to the marsh. Steps away from the pristine Goose Rocks Beach and minutes drive to the port and Cape Porpoise Lighthouse. Portland is an easy 40 minute drive. I am just home from a recent visit and can not wait to return. The owners are wonderful and hospitable people who have become much like family! Great spot for couples, families and dog owners.
We have been staying at GRB for 50 years. The views from this apartment make this one of the nicest rentals we have had. Watching the changing tide was so relaxing, and the variety of birds to see from the kitchen or the patio was wonderful. I would not recommend this apartment for more than 4 people and even with two couples, it would be tight because there is only one true bedroom and one bathroom. We were two adults and two teenagers and that was about the maximum the apartment would hold. The loft only has a height of about 4'. Great for younger children but our boys requested a bedroom next year that they could stand up in. And the pull-down stairs to the attic do impede access to the bedroom, although not as drastically as represented by a prior poster.
The location is wonderful. An easy walk to the beach (.3 miles?) and the area is wonderfully walkable and bike-able.
Personally, I preferred being able to get into the house earlier and saving the $ but not having a mandated cleaning crew in between rentals, but true neat-freaks might not be happy with the conditions left by the prior tenants. The owners were wonderful, accessible but never intrusive. Their dog visited occasionally, which we didn't mind a bit. In fact, if we had a weekend without the boys, we would definitely return with our dog. A phenomenal couples' retreat. I would recommend it for that purpose in a heartbeat, without hesitation.
We have been staying at Ricks Haven for the last three years, sometimes with kids, sometimes without. Either way it is the most relaxing, romantic place theoughout our travels. In shortwe always look forward to visiting each summer.
So much so, that my boyfriend proposed to me this past week right there on the patio overlooking the water at high tide. The view doesn't get much better than this. The apartment has everything I need to whip up a hearty Maine breakfast, lobster bake or BBQ. Wifi and flat screen for the kids, and a dock for crabbing. We even brought our Pug!!! The owners were so excited they shared a toast with us! All this and a beach that was rated. In the top ten east coast beaches in USA today'.
My husband and I have been renting at Rick’s Haven for the last 4 years, in the summer, fall and spring. We love it every time. The place has a stunning view to the marsh with a wonderful marsh breeze. It is dog-friendly which is a plus and a must for us. It is walking distance to the beautiful beach of Goose Rocks. It is very bright, nicely decorated with a real sense of a beach house. The kitchen is generally well-equipped with a panoramic view of the marsh. The bedroom is comfortable and the bathroom has all you need when staying at the beach. There is a lovely patio facing the marsh and a good size sideyard with a big hammock in which it is very nice to lay down and relax. The owners' dock allows you to bring your canoe or kayak and enjoy the marsh during high tide.
We usually come here with our dog and have also brought along our nephews, aged between 6 and 15, in the summer. They have always enjoyed sleeping upstairs in the loft. Although the loft can be hot in the summer, it is well ventilated and there are ways to keep it cool and make sure the temperature is comfortable when it is time to go to bed.
The owners are lovely people and although Rick's Haven is an annex to their house, they are very respectful of their tenants’ privacy.
This is a great place for one couple with a dog, or a family of 4 or 5.
We are long-time renters at GRB who got off to a late start this year looking at rentals plus we only needed a small place this year. Rick's Haven has a lovely view to the marsh with a wonderful marsh breeze. It is dog-friendly which is a plus on GRB. It is walking distance to the most beautiful beach in New England. Kitchen is well-equiped with a panoramic view of the marsh. However, it does not have two bedrooms, nor does it have a loft. A loft is an open area where you can look down to rest of the unit. What is represented as a loft/second bedroom is a crawl space attic with pull down attic ladder which is neither a safe or secure means of entry. This ladder also blocks the doorway to the one true bedroom. As well, as with any other attic in NE, it is oppresively hot in the summer and there is no appropriate ventilation. It is not a livable space. As far as cleanliness, the owners rely on the last occupant to keep it clean. We had to spend a few hours cleaning upon our arrival as there was dirt, sand, dog hair and dust everywhere, the bathroom was dirty and the kitchen counters were grimy. There were no linens that we could find. Also, the unit is showing the wear and tear of so many rentals (grimy shower head, bed comforter and pillow, chair covers and linen window shades could all be replaced with little cost to the owner). The patio is nice and the owners have a super sweet dog. However, the side year is its bathroom and we ended up picking up her business every day in order to use the patio and side yard. This would be a great spot for one couple with a dog, but no more.
Goose Rocks is different from all other beach areas: it is quiet, beautiful, uncrowded, clean. From the backyard of Rick's Haven, you will find a serene spot, watching the tides, the waterbirds, a great place to launch your kayak and paddle to the ocean.
