About the property

Country House, 4 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 4 Baths, (Sleeps 8-12)

Located on historic riverfront property formerly known as Angelo’s Sandy Beach Resort, now known as Grandma’s House. Four bedrooms, each with its own full bathroom (en suite). Grounds include 1.25 acres of lawn, garden, redwoods, and two separate beach areas. A large two-level deck wraps around the back side of the house overlooking the river. Other amenities include a pool table, piano, stone fireplace, and huge hot tub for your enjoyment. Usage of a canoe, two kayaks, and numerous water toys are included for a fun filled summer day on the river. In all seasons, it is a great location for a day of wine tasting at the nearby vineyards.

Sleeping Arrangements:

Two bedrooms each have a king bed and a pull out futon that sleeps one. These two rooms have a view of the river and access to the main deck. The other two rooms both have kitchenettes, one with a queen size bed and one with a king size bed. These two rooms have their own private decks adjacent to the garden. All bedrooms have their own television sets and private entrances to their rooms. In addition, the game room contains a futon bed which sleeps two.

The spacious kitchen is fully equipped with most every kitchen gadget imaginable to prepare delicious homemade meals like Grandma used to make! The charming decor is reminiscent of your Grandma's house, with handmade quilts, Bluewillow china, etc. The living area reminds you of Grandpa's hunting lodge.

The house is in a quiet neighborhood but is walking distance to a few shops and restaurants in Monte Rio. The town of Guerneville is 5 miles away. There is an award-winning 9-hole golf course nearby, redwood park for hiking, and many fine Sonoma county wineries in close proximity. The river meets the ocean about 10 miles away in the town of Jenner.

Take a kayak right from the backyard and then relax in the hot tub later than evening. Or, sip a glass of wine on the deck and watch the river go by. Come and be spoiled at Grandma's House!

About Gina

Hello, we are Stephen and Gina O'Hara. Gina is a native Northern Californian while Steve is a long way from home, originally hailing from Dublin, Ireland. We maintain the property ourselves and suggestions for improvement are encouraged. We bought the place from two very sweet ladies, Heather and Mickey, who were the real 'Grandmas'. The house was so charming and comfortable, we left it much the same, and kept the name and the decor. It truly feels like you are at your Grandma's House, and it's a place to have fun and be spoiled! We welcome you to Grandma's!

Gina purchased this chateau / country house in 2010

Why Gina chose Monte Rio

We love the Russian River area for it's beautiful redwoods, sun and fun on the river, proximity to the coast and wine country, and the feeling of being far away from the city.

What makes this chateau / country house unique

Launch a kayak from the backyard! The property has 1.25 acres of gardens, redwoods, and two beach areas. There is an award-winning 9-hole golf course nearby, redwood park for hiking, and many fine Sonoma county wineries in close proximity.

Nice quiet place on the river for family or group gathering.

  • 5 of 5

Recently stayed at Grandma's House with a family group of 8 adults and 4 children. Because of the fires in the wine region and a bit of rain while we were there, our daytime excursions were cut back and we wound up spending more time than planned at the house. What a cozy, warm place to spend time with the family in. Plenty of room with a big back yard for the kids to get some energy out in. Beautiful view of the peaceful river out back and access to canoes and kayaks when the weather would allow. And , of course, there was the great hot tub. Lots of room indoors too with plenty of room to spread out when we needed to. The kitchen has about everything you need and there are plenty of games in the house to pass the time.

Would highly recommend for a large family or group just wanting to kick back and spend some time together. It really does feel like Grandma's house.

Great Family Vacation Property

We had a spectacular time at Grandma's house. Everything in the listing is true and up to date. Most well stocked kitchen I have ever rented from. Roomy and comfortable.

Family Vacation/ Birthday Celebration

  • 5 of 5

I just returned from a family vacation at Grandma's House where we celebrated my sister's birthday and couldn't be happier. The house and property were lovely - super clean and comfortable with a huge porch and yard, and a beautiful and inviting view of the Russian river. Everyone kept commenting on how comfortable the beds and linens were and how massive the bedrooms are (each having your own bathroom is a major plus with four couples - we even had more than one shower running at once with no water pressure issues). There's a large, well-appointed kitchen, with all the things any cook would need. As others have mentioned, there are indeed plenty of fun things to do in the house and in the area. And if anyone in your party enjoys playing pool you'll definitely be in luck! Also, the house wasn't too close to the neighbors, so if you have some loud talkers or like to sing songs and have a hootenanny or two (like my family) into the night, no one will call the cops on you :). My 14yr old niece, my 65yr old father, and everyone in between thoroughly enjoyed their stay. I would recommend this property to anyone and happily stay there again.

Birthday celebration

  • 5 of 5

We were invited to Grandmas House for a cozy family birthday celebration weekend in mid November. We were impressed with the size of this beautiful vacation get away with plenty of space and lots of activities to do. The four separate suites were supplied with hygiene products and the kitchen with all of the cooking essentials. We spent the day on the back deck enjoying the beautiful scenery of the river, huge redwoods and wildlife. The evenings were spent watching movies from Grandma's video library in front of a fireplace and playing pool on the billiards table. Grandmas House was certainly worthy of the 3 hour drive and only wish the stay could have been longer than a weekend in order to enjoy kayaking down the river and spending time in the hot tub. We are already considering a future stay at grandmas house sometime next year.

Loved Grandma's House

  • 5 of 5

We had an amazing time! The house was spotless and had a lot of fun things to do – hot tub, kayaking, board games, pool table, movies, etc. We had a total of ten people staying in the house and had plenty of space. Each room has its own suite so it’s great for multiple families/couples.

The kitchen also had condiments and spices which is great when you’re vacationing since you don’t want to have to purchase all that to cook. All bathrooms also had shampoo/soap which is also great so you don’t have to lug it in your suitcase. The laundry room was an added bonus as well, which other houses in the area didn’t seem to have.

Another great thing is that the house had a ramp to the front door. My grandpa needs a walker to get around and this made it easier for him instead of having to climb stairs like other homes in the area.

We were visiting for a wedding and part of our family stayed at a house down the street, which had a ton of problems and they liked ours so much everyone just came over to hangout the entire weekend! We couldn’t be happier with Grandma’s House! Can’t wait to come back!

Grandma's is a landmark in Monte Rio

  • 5 of 5

What it used to be Angelo's Restaurant is now Grandma's lodge. This wasn't the only time we have stayed there, we've been to Grandma's several times for the last three years and every time we come back it's just fantastic. The house is big and accommodates big families and gatherings. The access to the river is just perfect, with a big lawn and two accesses to the river makes it so unique. At nights the setup is just perfect to cook and entertain with friends and family. Definitely recommend Grandma's for groups and big families, the space makes everything so much easier to entertain, relax and have a great time! Thanks to our hosts Gina and Steve that take such good care of the property and making sure their guests are always happy! Hope to come back there soon!
