About this property
Private Forest Retreat 2 Miles to Glacier ! Hot Tub, Decks, Firepits
Welcome to Three Bear Basecamp, a private forest retreat just 2 miles from the West Entrance of Glacier National Park. Set on 8 quiet, wooded acres, this guest-favorite home offers the rare balance of true peace and privacy with incredibly easy access to one of America’s most spectacular parks.
Many guests describe arriving as a “deep exhale”—leaving the highway behind, winding through the trees, and realizing just how quiet it is. Despite being minutes from Going-to-the-Sun Road, the home is intentionally positioned away from traffic, congestion, and park noise, making it a place you genuinely look forward to returning to after full days in Glacier.
Designed for families and groups, Three Bear Basecamp comfortably sleeps up to 12 with real beds only—no futons or sofa sleepers—making it an ideal home base for memorable Glacier adventures and restful Montana nights.
DESIGNED FOR FAMILIES & GROUPS
Three Bear Basecamp is ideal for multigenerational families, reunions, and groups of friends traveling together. The home comfortably sleeps up to 12 guests using real beds only—no futons or sofa sleepers—so everyone rests well after long hiking days.
Guests consistently mention how valuable the location is: close enough to pop into the park for sunrise, sunset, or stargazing, yet far enough away to return for meals, naps, or a quiet evening without losing time to traffic. This proximity is especially appreciated by families with kids and groups balancing adventure with relaxation.
WHY GUESTS LOVE THREE BEAR BASECAMP
• Unmatched Location: Less than 2 miles from Going-to-the-Sun Road—about as close as you can get without staying inside the park
• True Peace & Privacy: Quiet, wooded setting with frequent wildlife sightings and epic dark Montana night skies
• Thoughtfully Equipped: Guests often say the home “has everything—and more,” from kitchen essentials to outdoor comforts
• Exceptional Outdoor Living: 600 sq ft deck, multiple firepits, hammocks, swing set, outdoor kitchen, and a premium 6-person hot tub
• Reliable Comfort: Central A/C, fast Wi-Fi throughout the property (even outside), softened reverse-osmosis water, and a full-house backup generator
A HOME THAT FEELS LIKE HOME
The chef’s kitchen—featuring a gas range, double ovens, and generous counter space—is designed for real cooking and shared meals. Many guests note that it’s one of the best-equipped kitchens they’ve experienced, making it easy to prepare everything from quick breakfasts to family dinners enjoyed on the deck.
Inside, the home is spacious, beautifully finished, and intentionally laid out with both gathering areas and quiet retreats. Guests frequently comment that it doesn’t feel like a rental—it feels like a well-loved home, thoughtfully prepared for comfort and ease.
GUEST-FAVORITE BUNKHOUSE
The separate bottom-level bunkhouse is a highlight for families and groups. With flexible sleeping arrangements, lofted spaces, and its own entrance and summer kitchen, it gives kids, cousins, or friends a place of their own while keeping everyone connected. It’s often described as “glamping-level comfort”—fun, practical, and surprisingly spacious.
NATURE, DARK SKIES & SIMPLE JOYS
In season, guests enjoy picking huckleberries and wild strawberries right on the property. Mornings often begin with coffee on the deck and birdsong in the trees. Evenings are spent soaking in the hot tub, gathering around the fire, or watching the stars—and occasionally even the northern lights—emerge in Montana’s famously dark skies.
Despite the peaceful setting, you’re just minutes from Glacier trails, the Wild & Scenic Flathead River, Whitefish, Columbia Falls, and local favorites.
THOUGHTFUL HOSTING & LOCAL INSIGHT
Guests frequently mention the personalized recommendations and trip-planning guidance we provide, helping them make the most of their time in Glacier—especially when navigating park passes, timing, and trail choices.
THE BOTTOM LINE
Three Bear Basecamp offers something increasingly rare near Glacier National Park: the ability to maximize your time in the park while returning each night to true quiet, comfort, and privacy. Guests consistently say it exceeds expectations—and many plan their return before they leave.
IS THIS THE RIGHT FIT?
This home is ideal for guests who value quality time, nature, local insight, and a peaceful setting close to Glacier. It is not a party house and may not be the best fit for those seeking nightlife or walkable town amenities.
PROPERTY & SAFETY NOTES
For transparency, outdoor security cameras and motion-activated lighting are installed in driveway and exterior ingress/egress areas only. There are no cameras inside the home or in private guest spaces.
A recreational vehicle (RV) is stored behind fencing on the far side of the 8 wooded acres. During summer, it may occasionally be occupied by the owners or a caretaker. This area is fully separate from guest spaces, with no shared outdoor living areas. Guest privacy is very important to us, and all amenities are exclusively for guest use.
Please feel free to reach out with any questions or to request a virtual tour link.

About the host
Hosted by Patty & John S.
Three Bear Basecamp (3BB) is the realization of our family's dream to have a place right next to our favorite destination in the lower 48: Glacier National Park.
Our journey began back in the mid-1980s when we met in college in Florida. Patty, an avid hiker and camper, had spent years exploring all National Parks across the U.S. as a child. She would often tell John about the wonders of these parks. John, the youngest of seven, hadn’t traveled much, so while he understood how special the parks were to Patty, it wasn’t until our honeymoon in 1994 that he truly grasped the beauty of the American West. We took a spontaneous 14-hour road trip from the Rockies to the Grand Canyon, and traveling through Colorado and Utah at sunset, John was hooked.
A few years later, we started exploring National Parks as a family with our three young sons. When John asked Patty which park was her favorite, she immediately said Glacier—a place that had captured her heart in the early 70s. That was it! Glacier became the destination for our next big family adventure.
Over the years, we’ve explored countless National Parks, camping, hiking, and kayaking across the continent a dozen times. But starting in 2006, we spent 13 out of the next 15 years exploring Glacier. We've also organized group trips, multi-generational family adventures, and scout troop excursions in this incredible area.
We love Glacier, and we’re thrilled to share this special part of the world with others. Whether this is your first visit to Glacier or your twelfth, don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any questions.

Why they chose this property
We explored many areas in Northwest Montana over the years, focusing on Flathead County and considering locations around Flathead Lake, Whitefish, and throughout the valley. But eventually, we asked ourselves a simple question: Why spend our precious family time driving to the places we love most?
Everything we enjoy—laughing with family and friends, hiking, kayaking, biking, rafting, swimming, backpacking, horseback riding, stargazing, watching the northern lights, picking huckleberries, and simply relaxing—was right here, next to Glacier National Park and just outside the busy Flathead Valley.
With Montana’s summer days being so special, we wanted to spend less time in the car and more time outside. Location became our top priority. From here, you have quick access to Glacier National Park and countless outdoor adventures, while still being close enough to enjoy the shops, restaurants, and live music of the Flathead Valley when you want them.
At the same time, this neighborhood offers the peace and quiet we value most—a serene, wooded setting filled with wildflowers and wildlife, away from traffic and peak-season park noise. It’s a place to truly unwind after full days of adventure.
For us, this location offers the perfect balance: epic beauty and outdoor access paired with genuine calm and privacy. If that resonates with you, we’d love to welcome you to Three Bear Basecamp—an ideal home base for exploring Glacier National Park and experiencing the best of Northwest Montana with the people you love.
