About the property

Cottage, 3 Bedrooms, 2 Baths, (Sleeps 6-7)

The PEI Beach House is situated on the waterfront of PEI's south shore. With direct access to the beautiful red sand beach below, it is the perfect spot for little ones to play in safe shallow waters or those who love a bountiful clam dig.

One of the best assets of this PEI cottage is the large comfortably furnished screened porch that overlooks the water and provides a front row seat for gorgeous sunsets while you relax or dine al fresco.

The chalet style cottage sleeps 7 and has 2 baths. The large galley style kitchen and separate dining area are completely equipped for your convenience and cooking needs while the living room with wood stove and water views is bright and welcoming with cathedral ceilings and large windows. The living room's flat screen television (satellite) and DVD player completes the comforts of home.

The property is privately placed with mature trees on three sides and water in front. This allows for a very serene experience while you enjoy the large outdoor deck and surrounding manicured landscape. Deck furniture, hammock, play set and a BBQ entices the whole group outdoors for food, fun and memories to last a lifetime.

Additional property amenities include high speed internet, washer and dryer, linens, towels, a stocked kitchen (minus the food) and beach towels. There is also ample space for parking. Summerside is a 20 minute drive, Cavendish is a 35 minute beautiful drive away and the picturesque village of Victoria by the Sea is right next door.

About Mary & Mike Roberts

We are a family of four. My husband is a carpenter and has put many of the finishing touches on our beach house. I am a farmer. My family has been farming in this area for over two hundred years. We have two young children. Since taking up sailing, we don't have as much time to spend at the beach house as we used to... Our kids love the Cove. It is a wonderful spot to unwind, explore and forge summer, family memories to be cherished forever.

Why Mary & Mike Roberts chose Canada

We built our beach house in 1997. Augustine Cove is a very special place for our family. The Cove is perfect for swimming and wonderful for children to play and explore. Our neighbourhood is peaceful and private, the perfect getaway. Our family has been vacationing on the south shore for more than 6 generations. Our beach house has many of the personal touches you find in private residence, including an antique claw foot tub, 150 year old hand-hewn beams in the great room, a kitchen well stocked with an abundance of the standard items (as well as lots of utensils, good knives, serving dishes, and so on.). The beach house is furnished as a personal home would be, set up to enjoy everything from breakfasts in the sun room, lunches on the deck, sunset suppers in the screened in porch, space to throw a football or play croquet in the yard, lounging in the great room and bonfires on the beach.

What makes this cottage unique

Every family and couple we've hosted has made special comment on the screeened in porches. Mike built a screened in living and dining area on the waterside of the beach house. PEI has spectacular sunsets and these rooms are the perfect vantage point. The beach house is nestled in amongst trees, offering the perfect balance of yard to play and privacy for lounging. The beach house is a labour of love for us and we've put several unique details into the design. From the 100 year old hand hewn beams in the great room, the drift wood handrail going up to the 2nd storey, the antique clawfoot tub in the ensuite and the many island pine antique pieces of furntiure throughout the home. Our goal is to have the beach house feel not like rental property but to feel like a proper summer home that our guests are excited to visit.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We had such a wonderful time. The cottage was clean and well appointed. It made our stay so comfortable. The beach was fantastic. The kids had a ton of fun digging for clams, flying kites and chasing hermit crabs. I don't think I have ever been in ocean water that warm.

Magazine Worthy!

  • 5 of 5

This is a lovely cottage, fit to be featured in a magazine. It has so many beautiful touches that just make the setting so pleasant and comfortable. We actually stayed here July 12-19, 2014, with our two teenage daughters; but I wasn't able to submit the date for the review that far back, so I just showed it to be July 2015. For families with young children, bear in mind that there is a steep stairway down to the beach area. This wasn't a problem for us, though, and it's pretty typical for PEI cottages. Once down the steps, there is a huge shore area for exploring at low tide. It was great fun to climb over the rocks in one direction and hunt for sea glass in the other. It was never crowded, and meeting other explorers from nearby cottages along the way was always enjoyable. Although the master bath and bedroom area were beautiful, it was a little different to not have a door between the two - but not a problem. Also, we prefer showers to baths, so we used the downstairs bathroom for showering. We enjoyed buying local fish and seafood and cooking it there at the cottage. Lovely fresh strawberries were in season, so that was a real treat! We actually like recycling, so didn't mind separating our trash and compost at all. Usually when we're away from home, it feels strange to be throwing it all in together. The screen porch was a lovely spot to relax with a book in the rain. The only negative was mosquitoes, but we heard they were extra bad that year. They also were fairly slow and didn't seem to bite much. Also, our week was fairly rainy, which probably made them more active. We had no problems at all with our reservations or our stay. Oh - one more thing. At least at the time, the cottage was pet-free, which is important to us, since we have allergies. So we very much appreciated that. We thouroughly enjoyed the Landmark Cafe in Victoria - excellent food! - and a pretty little village to explore.

Private, Clean, Fantastic views

  • 5 of 5

A very welcoming beach house with great amenities. Well decorated, bright, and very clean. There is a screened in front porch as well as the large screened in sunroom out back with a beautiful view of the ocean. When the tide is in you can hear the water clearly and it lulls you to sleep in very comfortable beds.

Fresh takeout lobster is a mere 7 minute drive away!!

Mary is very organized and has a well equipped kitchen and laundry room. The only thing missing is some instruction on how to dig for clams! LOL

Secluded and Cozy!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at the cottage for one week in early August. New to PEI, we went out and about every day, but we were always so happy to come back to this lovely house and lovely cove. The red sand beach down the steps from the cottage seemed to stretch for miles and miles, and we loved exploring at low tide. It was just perfect for our four-year-old. She really loved hunting hermit crabs, which were plentiful! And it was so secluded; we were often the only family on the beach. The owners really have one of the best locations on the whole island! The natural beauty was off the charts.

The cottage itself was very well appointed. I do agree with another reviewer that the bathroom off of the master bedroom could have used a door, but it wasn't a problem for our group of four. We had a lot of meals at home, and found the kitchen well stocked. (The island's recycling program was a little confusing to us though, and it took us a little while to figure out where the different cans and bags were and all went!) A recommendation on meals -- we absolutely loved Shipwright's Cafe to the north. We both ate on site and picked up a frozen casserole and blue-barb pie for dinner back at the house on another day. Really really good. Only wish we had found them earlier in the trip!

A few recommendations on activities: Brackley Beach (a nice change from the red sand, but still very PEI-feeling), Happy Clammers with Gilbert and Goldie at Point Prim (fantastic!), and the Greenwich Dunes Trail (absolutely gorgeous, but a prepare for a solid hike).

Even with a week on PEI, there was more to do than time to do it. The whole island is a dream. But now that we are back home, what we miss most is Augustine Cove, and the time we spent running around down on the beach and relaxing together as a family in the cottage. Thank you, Mary!!

Owner's Response: Hello Jessica. We are so pleased that you enjoyed our property. I agree that it offers a special combination of secluded & private but central to other attractions the Island has to offer. The sound of the screen door swinging closed, the privacy of the lot and the gorgeous sunsets viewed from the screened in porch over a supper of delicious Island seafood, steak and produce is what I consider perfect for a family summer holiday. I hope you are able to come back and enjoy another stay at our beach house. Thank you for your kind words.

Private Relaxing Retreat!

  • 5 of 5

The beach cottage at Augustine Cove was everything we expected & matched the owners description & pictures perfectly. The cottage is comfortable & well equipped with a wonderful screened in area to enjoy dinners, card games & also provided a great view of the Confederation Bridge & spectacular sunsets. This was a family reunion for us. We were two parents & four adult kids...all of had a great time! We loved the beach...went clamming often, played bocce ball when the tide was out...our son brought his kayak which he used daily then tied to the base of the beach stairs. We bought lobster at Captain Cooks which we prepared ourselves! We would also highly recommend a meal at the Landmark Cafe. The guys played golf at Crowbush, a bit of a drive but worth it. We spent a day in Charlottetown & took in the Anne of Green Gables heartwarming as I remember! Mary was great to work with & had everything completely prepared for our arrival including cool drinks in the fridge! We all loved our time at the cottage & were happy to be "islanders" if only for a week!

Perfect for our family!

  • 5 of 5

What a find! My hubby and I were travelling with our five children aged 8,6,4,2, and 15 months. We were looking for a convenient home base from which to explore PEI. This beach house fit our family perfectly. It was great to come "home" to after a day on the road. Well stocked kitchen, loads of towels and an absolutely fantastic yard for the kids to play in. Swing set with slide, sandbox and tons of room to run were great bonuses for when the kids needed to blow off steam and I needed the space to cook a meal(which we did often and saved us quite a few dollars). We loved exploring the beach and the fence at the top of the stairs leading down to the beach made it safe for the kids. They loved checking to see if it was high or low tide. The view of Confederation Bridge from the beach is great.

Mary was fantastic with accommodating our littlest one. High hair, pack n play, fans for white noise, baby gates for blocking off the stairs.....all provided and set up for our arrival. Mary knew we would be arriving after dark and had the house lit up like a Christmas tree for us which was greatly appreciated! The cottage and yard are meticulously maintained, but still comfortable enough that I wasn't worried the kids were going to wreck anything.

We explored PEI from tip to tip. New Glasgow Lobster Supper, the butterfly house at PEI Preserve Co., Charlottetown Farmers Market, Cows Creamery Factory Tour, East Point Lighthouse, Basin Head Beach, deep sea fishing with Paradise on the Sea Adventures, purchasing moonshine at Myriad Distillery, North Cape, Bottle Houses, Spinnakers Landing, and a dairy farm tour were all highlights of our trip. Mix that up with some rest and relaxation at the cottage and you have one fabulous vacation. We are dairy farmers from Ontario my hubby doesn't really like to travel or leave the cows, but even he enjoyed this vacation largely due to being able to come home every night to this cottage.

If you have been eyeing this place for awhile and have it marked as a favourite, just book it! You will not be disappointed by either the beach house or PEI! We have been recommending this property to anyone thinking of visiting. Cheers!
