Guestbook comments from the manager

"We loved it, walk to everywhere in minutes.. the most convenient"

We just stayed at the' Village Hotspot' as this property is appropriately called, with our 13 and 14 year old children, a couple of our friends with their 7 year old and two small dogs. It was a last minute booking, and was perfect for everyone, with a diverse choice of things to do for everyone. It is literally a minutes walk to the lake where we became fans of B's Backyard BBQ bar at the end of the day ; the kids could hang out and skim stones whilst we watched the sun set over the lake from the waterfront deck, the dogs tore it up with fellow canines on the dog beach conveniently located right there too. The teenagers took off to the village to watch movies, bowl, and just hang out, they loved their independence and it was so nice not to have to taxi them everywhere like we do in la, and worry about their safety. We all went snowboarding, which is always fun at Big Bear Mountain, just big enough to have fun on the runs but not so big you end up miles away and never see your family and friends on the slopes. We all went hiking, the well sign- posted 2NO8 trail starts just up the hill from this cabin on the memorably named 'Knickerbocker Rd', which was so pretty and the dogs loved it.

The 3 bedroomed cabin itself was basic, warm and cosy, with shaggy carpets ,rustic-style furnishings and everything you could possibly need in the kitchen. The large entrance room had both washer and drier, which is exactly where you want it with all the wet snowboarding gear, and wipe clean floor for muddy boots and dogs leashes.

The rental agency, Big Bear Lakefront Cabins, had extremely helpful and friendly staff , coincidentally both called Judi, they were upfront and honest when helping me select a cabin to suit our needs. This one does not have great curb appeal but we wanted somewhere very central so we wouldn't have to get in our car at all, and we didn't!

The cabin has great use of space, a large lounge with fireplace and sofa bed for an extra overnight guest, hot tub and huge carpeted games room with pool table and foosball. It was like having an on-site clubhouse for the kids, which gave us a break to watch a dvd in the evening on the large flat screen TV in the lounge. Loading and unloading was easy, we could drive our car right up to front door, and parking was plentiful in the lot . It was great value for money, and we got a third night for free.

This cabin is perfect for entertaining...

Disappointment

  • 2 of 5

Rating Details:

The property manager was very helpful.

The vacation rental was somewhat dirty.

I was happy with the location.

I was very dissatisfied with the condition of the vacation rental.

Overall, I do not recommend this vacation rental.

Reviewer Comments:

There was a layer of dust on everything. The shower had cracks in the wall. The bathroom floor felt like you were going to fall through it. They were mouse droppings all over the deck outside the door. Some of the windows were covered in plexiglass. Most of the windows didn't have adequate curtains to ensure privacy. There's a business right next to the home and the workers park right alongside the house. On the plus side the kids really enjoyed the pool table and dartboard and foosball. And the jacuzzi.

Owner's Response: Thank you Marissa for your valued feedback. We are pleased that your children enjoyed the gameroom and the hot tub at this cabin. Cleanliness is our highest goal for our guests. We inspected this cabin today and will be placing a new bathroom floor within the next 2 weeks. We also have new window drapes on all of the windows. We welcome you back soon to check out the upgrades to this vacation cabin.

Reviewer Comments:

"Worst cabin stay ever!! I have stayed in many cabins in big bear and this I have to say is my worst experience!!My group rented from this company and thought it was going to be a great experience from the reviews and photos; but upon arriving we realized it was so not worth what we paid!! My boyfriend and I got electrocuted by trying to switch on one of the bedroom switches, my cousin found bloody kids underwear under her bed, the bathroom floor felt like you were going to go through it (and there were signs of mold in the bathroom), there was also an excessive amount of ants in the kitchen and on the dining table. There was no way of enjoying the fresh air because the windows either had holes in them or were plexy glass and also they tried to hit me with a bunch of hidden fees: like trash disposal, cleaning the jacuzzi (which was dirty to begin with), and a what if few??!! Really?!! I mean come on, you want people to enjoy there stay not think what if....I stayed somewhere else!! All in all, I come to find out that there is probably such great reviews because that is the only way the company will let you have a free and then we try and call them to ask about what a fee might be for a late checkout, after I called once already that morning, to find out they disconnected there phone line!! And then I try to call the company to complain, and pretty much all Judy is saying to me is that "do you understand how yelp works and hurts my business"..yes I do, but her customer service stinks because my boyfriend and I have been trying to resolve the matter of atleast just getting the cleaning fee back, because we felt it wasn't clean in the first place, and she just comes back with yelp this, yelp that, your hurting my business etc etc. And then ends with a bitchy remark of have a nice day (with a bitchy tone). I mean does anyone know customer service anymore?

Owner's Response: This is one of many duplicate reviews posted by the same guest. I understand a professional response, and.... when a guest states "I will post negative and falsified reviews all over the internet, unless you give me money back," then, I am speechless. We work diligently to providing excellent vacations for our guests in well cared for cabins. We have thousands of happy guests and occasionally, we run into, well, this situation. We trust that our readers can use their judgment here. This cabin is well loved by many and we work hard to address any and all issues, quickly so that our cabins are in great condition.

Worst place ever!!

  • 2 of 5

I have stayed at many cabins on vrbo.com and I have to say this is the worst!! I mean there are ants on the dining room table, screens in the windows are bent or have holes (or have plexy glass on them). Then you have the heavy foot traffic, yeah I know we are close to a highway, but I don't need to see the hot tub business worker outside my window in the morning or the fact that they are near my car or on the other side of the fence near the hot tub. Thermostat does not work. Silverware in drawer is dirty so make sure to clean before using. Bathroom is probably the best part in the house and that is saying a lot because the floor sinks, the faucet leaks and the door to the bathroom sometimes sticks so you get locked in. Oh and then the game room would be nice but the pool table is poorly taken care of, from scratches to broken pockets...and don't get me started on the foosball, where there is no score pieces and the broken pieces of wood where your kid could hurt themselves!! Oh and the bedding is horrendous. We got cold, so I went to get more blankets from the closet and the blanket I pulled out had multiple dark stains, then whoever made the bed in the first place doesn't know how, because you are literally laying on the mattress, as there is no fitted sheet. Then I noticed that the kids room/ room with two beds has wires hanging from the walls...not very safe in my opinion!! Oh and those beds aren't very comfortable, I mean you roll to the side and you fall in between the crevice and the wall with the bed leaning on top of you. Oh and don't get me started on security of this place. The back door doesn't lock so forewarn don't leave anything valuable. And so much more!! Also last thing to leave you with is the fact that getting here we had to go through multiple pot holes and mud to get to the driveway which my vehicle barely survived!! I label this place HORRIBLE!!

The cabin was great. The help line wasn't much of a help as we got our car stuck in the snow and they didn't seem to care or give us any advice.

Owner's Response: We are so sorry that you had a poor experience with your car getting stuck. You came to Big Bear during our biggest snow storm on recorded history, with 5 feet of snow in 5 days. While we do plow our driveways and walkways for our guests, we do not have a tow service as part of our cabin accommodations and are unable to tow people that are stuck. We did, however, find a local vendor that could assist you with getting unstuck and we did send him to your cabin.
