Small beachfront cottage is feet from the water and feet from Beach Rd. where you can flag down a bus or ride or walk to Vineyard Haven (1 mile) or Oak Bluffs (2 miles). Unbelieveable sunsets. Piano. Games. 3 bedrooms upstairs, 2 with doubles and one with two twins. You don't even need to bring a car! If a family member can't do stairs, the couch opens up and the full bath is on the first floor. Watch parasailers and ferries and fishermen, walk up the beach to the jetty, rent bikes, explore the island. Or just stay home and read on the porch. Wifi, grill, TV. Some of the pictures are before we moved the stairs to the beach. And I can't get them to be vertical, sorry! So relaxing at the house. In the family for many years and we rent it out when we are not there. There's a great new Film Society less than a mile away with nightly good movies.

Photo, top left is my father who owns the house. My NY-based maternal grandfather used to summer in the cottage and do his plaster-to-bronze sculptures on the porch. In 1975, my family added a second floor with three bedrooms. Our family has squeezed many of us in for laughter-filled weekends of games and swimming, sunsets, meals on the porch. Right now we rent it most of the summer. We live in various parts of the Boston area and Amherst, MA. Photo is from Dad's house.
Franny purchased this Cottage in 1950
Why Franny chose East Chop
Lifelong memories. My family first rented this cottage in the1940's and then bought it back in the 1950's. I love that everything is right there, from views to fun water play right outside, to public buses, to hospital, to villages and film society and theatre. People flock to Eastville Beach and we are right there!
What makes this Cottage unique
Cute house, right on the water. It is hard to find houses that are literally 15 feet from the water. Convenient to everything--ferries and fun.

Cute and cozy cottage right on the water.
We loved being so close to the water, with spectacular views across the bay. Sleeping with the windows open, the waves lull you. This cottage feels like a well loved family summer home.
I am so glad you enjoyed your weekend, Robert. Fall is such a nice quieter time on the Vineyard. Thank you for renting.
Everything was Perfect!
I've visited MVI since 1952 and have stayed in all sorts of accommodations - numerous cottages on Lake Tashmoo, Vineyard Haven and Oak Bluffs, guest houses and hotels - you name it. Franny's cottage on Vineyard Haven Harbor was one of the best experiences for both my wife and me. From friendly neighbors and a wonderful sunset and its location, you have it all. Sit and have cocktails on the deck or walk right into the water. Fish from your own beach. It's rocky, right outside the cottage, so bring water shoes. But walk down the beach to the public area and you've got lots of sand. And if you have children, you might want to take a short five minute walk across the street and down a public path to a wonderfully sandy beach on the Lagoon where you'll find warm, shallow, calm water and where you can clam (Just don't forget to pick up a permit before you do). Inside the cottage, there's plenty of comfortable, cozy seating downstairs, a piano, an old radio that works, card and other games, and books. It you do want to watch TV, it's a new one, so enjoy. Oh, and the Internet WIFI is great! Throughout the cottage you'll find lots of window that all open to allow the sound of the surf enter your bedrooms while you sleep. The cottage was clean when we arrived and had plenty of supplies most likely left by prior tenants. So you might want to do a little inventory before heading out to the local store. Downtown Vineyard Haven is a little over a mile walk, if you're so inclined (I walked it every day for exercise), and Oak Bluffs isn't too far away either. Get to know the back roads and you'll find ways to Edgartown and other places to help avoid the summer traffic. In short, everything was perfect! We've already made reservations for next year!
Thank you, Stephen! I am so glad the cottage worked out so perfectly for you . You well captured in your writeup all the perks of the location. Staying long enough and coming in September when it was quieter were wise moves. I am glad you made connections with neighbors as well. And thanks for booking next year.
The Beach Front View is Priceless !
The cottage was what I expected. I have been going to the island since I was a baby. What was important to us is being on a beach , hearing the ocean and watching the sunrises and sunsets. Rest, relaxation and enjoying companionship means far more than a deluxe kitchen. Like a lot of the Vineyard ,this rental allows you to step back in time and enjoy life with its simplicity. The bedrooms are well sized and accommodate well. Franny was gracious to provide bed linens for us. The kitchen table can accommodate 6 people easily but also remember eating on the porch at sunset is amazing. Unfortunately we were on island during a heat wave. I know normally that window fans are typically the norm because it is rare for the Vineyard to be that hot , but It would have been wonderful to have small window air conditions. Blame that on Global Warming.... Franny is an excellent hostess who wants all her renters to be happy and she provides excellent customer care. We would definitely rent from Franny again!
And Pam was great to work with, too! Thanks for your nice review and for appreciating the beachside value.
Centrally located beachfront cottage
We had a wonderful week in Franny's cottage. The location was perfect--the cottage is literally on the beach, and there is also a lagoon beach just across the street. Our kids really enjoyed wading, finding little fish, and playing in the sand at the lagoon beach. We also loved swimming in front of the cottage. As Franny described, the beach is rocky, but once you get past the rocks in the water there is sand, and it gets deep enough to swim fairly quickly as you go in. Beach shoes were provided and made it easy to get into the water. From the deck, we liked watching the boats and ships go in and out of the harbor, and you can also watch the sunset. All three bedrooms have water views because the back bedroom has a view of the lagoon. The house is right on a fairly busy road, but it is not busy late at night. From the front bedrooms and the deck, we only heard the waves. The week we stayed at the house, the temperatures were in the high 80's during the day and low 70's at night. We were very comfortable with the windows open and the fans that were provided. Another advantage to this location is it is on the bus route, and you also can walk into Vineyard Haven and Oak Bluffs towns. It is about a half hour walk into Oak Bluffs. My husband and I had a very pleasant time walking into Oak Bluffs to go out one evening while my parents watched our kids. The cottage itself was comfortable and clean--not fancy, but homey. My son really liked looking at the map of the Vineyard on the wall downstairs. Both of our kids enjoyed playing the piano. We all appreciated that there was plenty of hot water for the six of us, and that there was an outdoor shower. The kitchen was well equipped--the only suggestion I would have for kitchen equipment is a cheese grater (We made tacos one night). To me, this is how a home on the Vineyard should be. Thank you again for a wonderful week, Franny!
What a wonderful description of the cottage! We are so glad you enjoyed your stay. And we love your children’s drawings.
Perfect location and great size for family of 4
We had a wonderful time at Franny’s cottage! We have been visiting MV every summer for 5 years so have a few properties to compare it to! Franny was wonderful to work with and always very responsive to questions. The location can’t be beat, so close to both downtown Vineyard Haven and Oak Bluffs. And the beach backyard was heaven for our two littles. Plenty of bedrooms for us all to have our own space and love that there is a washer/dryer there to use. We will definitely be staying again! Thank you, Franny! Kristen, Lance, Rogan & Sawyer
Thank you, and likewise about ease of communication. It’s so great that your kids enjoyed the beach being right there. And I loved their drawings in the guestbook! It brought back memories of when my kids, now in their 20s, played and did artwork on the porch.
Location is perfect but house needs updating
Having your own private beach is amazing. The house itself is in dire need of some updating. There is no air conditioning and we had trouble sleeping due to the heat. It's located close to many restaurants and shops. It was plenty big enough for our family of 4. Beautiful sunsets while eating dinner on the deck. Overall a good experience if it hadn't been during a heat wave.
Thanks for your stay, Jaime. I appreciate your input on design. I am so glad you had a good few days despite the heat wave.
You can flag the public bus right at the door, or be dropped off right there. To all parts of the island. 'Near hospital' is good way to describe location. Biking and walking galore.
