About the property

House, 3 Bedrooms, 3 Baths, (Sleeps 6)

Cypress Hideaway is the perfect location on Carmel Point, just 2 blocks from the famous, white-sand Carmel Beach, and 3 blocks from Carmel River Beach in a quiet neighborhood. It is a lovely multi-level, redwood home with high open-beam ceilings that is spacious yet retains a cozy feel. It has a wood-burning fireplace, unique with a log built into the hearth area that came straight from Carmel River Beach about 40 years ago. It was designed and built with a love of nature, in a 'U' shape surrounding a large California Oak tree that sits beautifully in the center portion of the property.  A lovely, large hedge of Cypress trees offers the utmost feeling of privacy in the yard and house.  The house has a nice front sitting patio, beautiful for morning coffee, a deck off the master bedroom, and another patio off the 3rd bedroom/studio. Cypress Hideaway has 3 nicely-sized bedrooms (one king bed, and two with queen beds), and 3 baths, one with a sunken tub above which is a skylight where you can gaze at the stars above.  It has a small, but fully functioning kitchen with all new appliances, dishes, utensils...etc. Located within walking distance from the historical Carmel Mission, downtown Carmel with myriads of shops and restaurants to enjoy, and Carmel Mission Ranch dining overlooking Carmel River Beach. Cypress Hideaway is a perfect vacation get away for families with children ages 6 and older, or couples wanting to experience the beauty and charm of Carmel living.

Why The Owner chose Carmel Point

Built in 1973 by my parents, we have kept this home in our family and have many fond memories in it. Family and friends gathered at our house over the years and shared great times there and at the nearby beaches. (We even won the grand-prize in the Carmel Beach Great Sand Castle Contest one year -- what fun!) I have fond memories of exploring tide pools at the beach as a young teen coming from the cold of Illinois where we'd moved from. The wood design was my father's (an artist) and the preservation of the california oak tree, and the cypress hedge was of the utmost importance to him when building the house. We have kept our home as a vacation rental so we can enjoy visits ourselves, and so we can have others also enjoy it and have great Carmel memories.

What makes this house unique

The woodsy feel of the house is special, and the many windows make you feel like you are outdoors. But with the tall hedges you also feel the utmost privacy. A wood-burning fire in the living room is so cozy. Of course, the short walk to the beach(es) makes this such a special location.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We had a mini-family reunion arranged at last minute in Carmel .  I frantically started searching for a house to accommodate travelers from East and West Coast.

The pictures of Cypress Hideaway do not do it justice.  The house is very private from the front, so hard to image the surprise and enjoyment we all got at the unique floor plan and the way the house wraps around a very large tree in the back.  All bedrooms have access to individual decks that called us to set out and enjoy the privacy and ambiance.

Located within walking distance to the River beach and Carmel beach was all the more appealing.  Morning walks along the Carmel coast are breathtaking. Definitely a lovely experience all in all!  Thanks for allowing us the pleasure of a Cypress Hideaway stay.

Thanks again,

Debbie W. and Guests

Carmel Hide Away filled with charm

  • 5 of 5

Hidden away on the prestigious Carmel Point, is a gem of a Carmel charmer. The rustic and spacious home on three levels evokes the charisma the Monterey Peninsula is renown.

The property is well maintained with a very helpful caretaker at your call.

The living room has a beautiful fireplace and the kitchen is great if you are cooking in. The master bedroom has high ceilings and an attached bath. There is a lovely deck ajoining the bedroom. There is a downstairs suite and another bedroom and bath on the master bedroom level.

Carmel and the Monterey Peninsula has more restaurants than you could visit in a year! Noteable, Anton and Michele and Basil. Should you want to cook in, Bruno's has a great meat department and Neilson's supplies the gourmet in your traveling party.

The owner of the property was highly responsive and returned emails promptly.

I will return to this property when visiting the Monterey Peninsula in the future.

Unique property. Conveniently located near beach and town.

  • 4 of 5

This home is nestled in a quiet and safe neighborhood. Enjoyed morning cliff walks and looking at some of the beautiful homes along the way. The photos don't do the home justice. It is very roomy and privacy is great for three couples. Charming little balconies off several rooms in the house. Would come back again. Owner responded quickly and was accommodating. Thanks Nancy!

Perfect Carmel peaceful retreat

  • 5 of 5

Our group of five (two parents, three teens) absolutely loved this home. It's a lovely, comfortable, retreat that feels like a cross between the tree house of your childhood imagination and a rambling vintage beach cottage. It's quiet, peaceful, the gardens and trees make you feel like you are in your own private world, yet the beaches are a short walk away.

The house is much lighter and brighter than the pictures show, thanks to lots of windows and skylights. Yet the warm woods on the floors and walls give the home a soft, comfortable feel. Delightful little artwork treasures line the walls, a fun selection of books and games are great additional touches. Kitchen had everything we needed for cooking and staying in on the nights we didn't want to leave the retreat. My teens thought the beds were the most comfortable they had ever found in a vacation home.

The house is spacious, the layout ensures peace for those who want a quiet moment for a nap or to read. Our early birds could arise and make coffee and noise and our late sleepers were not disturbed. We spent mornings going for a morning run to Carmel River State Beach and afternoons wandering Carmel Beach (closer - about two blocks away). Kids walked into town almost everyday. The neighborhood is quiet and of course, beautiful.

We love this one and will definitely return!

Perfect location

  • 5 of 5

Spent 8 nights late July early August with my husband and teenage kids 17/13. The location was perfect. Carmel Beach is a 3 min walk, Carmel River Mouth beach is 4 min. House was very clean and having a king size bed in the master is a big plus. Kids also enjoyed their queen beds and rooms. We all had our own space! The house is much larger than it appears in photos. Kitchen is well equipped. If you have mobility issues keep in mind there are Doug the care taker is super nice and helpful.
