About this space
Enjoy the peaceful setting of this historical home located next to the North River. Built in the mid to late 1800's, the lovely home has been fully restored with modern amenities while maintaining its original charm. A wraparound porch offers amazing views. The porch swing is a great place to enjoy a morning cup of coffee! A large, private yard surrounds the home. Beside the river is a fire-pit and chairs for you to enjoy relaxing and making memories. Full of charm and unique quirks. Book today!

SURROUNDING AREA Historic downtown Harrisonburg is minutes away where you can explore the fantastic restaurants, museums and shops. James Madison and Eastern Mennonite Universities are fifteen minutes away and Bridgewater College is practically next-door. The Shenandoah Valley offers many attractions including hiking, ski resorts, caverns, wineries and breweries. Massanutten Resort is less than 30 minutes away.

All linens for bedding, towels and washcloths are provided. Paper goods such as toilet paper and paper towels are provided. The kitchen is fully stocked with dishes, cups, utensils, cookware, microwave, toaster, blender, and regular drip and Keurig coffee makers. Simply bring your clothes, toiletries and food! Washer and dryer are available.

We had a great stay! We were in town for graduation and needed space for the extended family. One of the best houses we’ve rented. The house was charming and comfortable and had all the amenities we needed for a great weekend. We will plan on coming back again in the future.

A beautiful treasure along the river. Disappointed I didn't get to sit down there because it was Arctic Cold. The house is beautiful and fully updated. I loved the floorplan and gives you the ability to host a full family or just stay to the first floor. I will be back.

We had a wonderful stay in this beautiful house on the river. We and our family spent time at the fire pit by the river, on the expansive front porch, and around the dining table. It was a great place to gather, and a fine starting point for attending events and touring. Access to the house was easy, and everything was very well set up.

Fantastic property—immaculately clean and thoughtfully equipped with all the right amenities. The five spacious bedrooms were perfect for our group. The kitchen was modern, well-stocked, and a pleasure to cook in. Communication with the property manager was seamless—quick, clear, and helpful throughout our stay. The location is ideal for cycling enthusiasts, with easy access to scenic routes around Harrisonburg and the George Washington National Forest.

Christmas at the river mill house

We had a wonderful family Christmas there. The house is very clean with comfortable beds and beautifully decorated. Plenty of room for the 7 of us to sit together whether we were eating, cooking or lounging. Loved the tranquility and the view out the kitchen window.

We thoroughly enjoyed River Mill House! It was clean, updated and very comfortable. It had all the historical charm yet modern conveniences. It was the perfect house for a large group and was very close to Cross Keys Vineyard where the wedding was.

Superb!

My family and I stayed at this beautiful property for my son's graduation from JMU. The home and property were even more spectacular than the pictures listed. Very well appointed with perfect spaces for gathering. Also enjoyed the firepit by the river. Hope to have an occasion to stay here again. Wonderful memories made.

JMU Homecoming Crew

3 couples visiting JMU for Homecoming weekend. The kitchen was stocked with everything we needed to prepare our tailgate dishes. The beds were comfortable and the house beautifully decorated. Great for friend groups

We were in town for a wedding and wanted a place where multiple couples could stay. We loved the house. It is beautifully decorated and had plenty of space. The kitchen is well stocked, the beds and linens were comfortable and towels were provided. The views of the river were beautiful and there was wood for the fire pit. One of our friends even did yoga down by the river. The hosts were incredibly responsive. Highly recommend staying here!

Beautiful, comfortable, and easy!

We had a wonderful stay at this house. We're two families with kids, and there was enough room for everyone to be comfortable. Both husbands participated in a race in Natural Chimneys National Park, and the location was so convenient! The kitchen was perfectly appointed (sharp knives!) and the kids loved the yard. On our last night we spent a really lovely evening around the fire pit. Very highly recommended!

Beautiful Home

From the minute we walked in we fell in love with this beautiful home. Stunning inside & out. Extremely clean and cozy, plenty of room for 7 girlfriends to catch up. We enjoyed many wineries and breweries in the area.

Relaxing

If you are looking for a quiet place to sit on a porch and watch the birds fly by this is the perfect place. The home is beautiful and welcoming. Good luck trying to pick a bedroom you want to sleep in, they are all perfectly charming. The porch gets the late morning sun, and you can just sit and sip your coffee. The woodpecker I named Red will keep you amused with his rhythmic pecking, and I have never seen so many squirrels running up and down the trees having a great time. The owners make you feel at home with coffee tea snacks games throw blankets and then for you as well all the essentials for the perfect smore for the campfire. There are no issues if you would like to have Door Dash or Instacart sent to the home for convenance. We used both options and we had fast and perfect delivery. Thank you so much for letting us enjoy your home, and I am looking forward to going back. Maureen
