Big farmhouse, small town feel, pet-friendly. This is what I like best about our prairie retreat set in the southwest corner of Missouri a short drive from Branson and Table Rock Lake, Hot Springs, Eureka Springs, Roaring River, and more. The house is a 1920s Craftsman style that has been in my family for four generations and owned by my great-grandmother, grandmother, mother and myself, respectively. Blessed with love and care, you will instantly feel at home in this special place, with its grand rooms and original Craftsman finishes. The welcoming farmhouse style kitchen and back porch opens onto a wide open acre overlooking farms to the west of town. This home is pet friendly, and we welcome yours, including a small fenced area off the back porch for safe exercising. We have a grill and outdoor furniture and other BBQ items for your use. You will have two bedrooms, one-and-a-half baths. A finished attic is available for special family events, with two more bedrooms and a sitting room upstairs.
Mt. Vernon is a county seat with a beautiful courthouse square (walking distance) that has been resettled and restored by younger generations attracted to the friendly small town atmosphere. Walk through the streets of well-loved homes dating back the early 20th century
We also offer a special prairie experience, a visit to the last 200 acres of only 400 acres of virgin prairie land in Missouri. Just a short drive through rolling hills Ozark farmland, this land was in our family and part of a working family farm for almost 100 years, and recently deeded to a conservation program so that it can be enjoyed by others in perpetuity. Said to once be of the summer hunting grounds for native Americans, you can see the mounds punctuating the undulating acreage of unplowed land with prairie wildflowers. Our family dates back to the early 19th century and we love to share our family history including cemetery tours that date back to the early 1800s.
