About Steve Young
I grew up in Southern Illinois, and could not wait to 'Get Out,' 'Escape,' and go to the big city. I went to school in Chicago at the Illinois Institute of Technology, and left Southern Illinois far behind. I thought this was great. I had a very successful career in the online advertising, marketing, and market research world catering to big pharma. In a normal year I would fly 125,000 miles and see many places, countries and sites. As I grew older and my 'success' continued I felt more and more that something was missing. I began to yearn for the hills of Southern Illinois, the slower pace of life, and the people I left behind more and more. I 2013, I came home for a few weeks to help my mother move my father into a nursing home. After this was completed I flew to Milan for business, and on my way back I received a call that my mother had had a stroke. This was a life changing event for me, and I never really went home. My father spent the year getting worse, and my Mother spent the year getting better. When my father died in December of 2013, I decided to 'officially' move to Southern Illinois in order to spend more time with my mother and be closer with family. I also made the decision to leave the company I worked for and do something simpler, and local to Southern Illinois. June 1st, 2014 I started my company with the goal to create vacation rental homes in Southern Illinois and help the area grow tourism. Southern Illinois is a beautiful and special place, and I would like to share it with as many people as possible.
Steve Young purchased this House in 2014
Why Steve Young chose Makanda
This property was an old Bed and Breakfast, and the view was spectacular. The property was foreclosed on and a friend that I went to high school with had purchased it and remodeled the main house. The property also has a guesthouse that I am in the process of refurbishing. Once the guesthouse is refurbished the property will sleep a maximum of 16 people, or can be rented to separate parties in the main house and guesthouse. The proximity toe wineries, and area attractions is also great for this property.

2 Night Stay
Everything was great. Thanks !
Good place to stay
Clean house and not far from Blue Sky Winery. Backyard was beautiful but couldn’t really spend time out there since it was colder. Steve was easy to get in contact with if I had any questions.
Roomy, clean, and great location!
This property had pretty much everything you could ask for! The house was clean, spacious, and had any amenity you needed! Not to mention the great location and beautiful view on the back deck! We loved our stay, and will hopefully be back!
BEST kept secret for the wine trail!
From the very start, this house is all about family friendly, spacious luxury! The rooms are massive, with even more massive closets. A HUGE covered deck is amazing during thunderstorms and sunshine alike. Very private! Huge outside open spaces for drinking games or energetic five-year-olds. Bath sheets upon bath sheets upon bath sheets, most fluffy and biggest towels I have ever seen. You cannot go wrong here, so much amazing in a concentrated area! We will be back! Thank you Steve for keeping this place immaculate.
Had a family reunion. House was perfect for that. Had a great time. Stocked with household things real well.
Great time with family
The entire weekend my family spent was nice and amazing. Very quiet and the home was equipped with everything we needed. Our first time ever renting, the owner was very nice and made sure we got in safe and had no issues. He was available anytime and everytime. We made a nice bonfire on our second night and it was the best ever. Time away from the city life to just sit by the fire and watch the stars. The home is very spacious and has that home away from home country feel. So many movies, we had a family movie night. Went out on the town and just enjoyed our surroundings. We will definitely be back soon.
I am so glad that you guys had a great time. Also glad that the collection of DVDs that I left went to good use! I would love to have your group back again someday.
