About this property
Boxley Valley Farmstay On The Beautiful Buffalo River
Our 100-year-old farmhouse has been lovingly renovated and will accommodate 6 guests. The farmhouse retains its character through its screen doors, heart-pine wood floors, period furnishings, and wood stove. Interior furnishings were chosen to provide the plain and simple comforts of the early 20th Century.
The back porch rockers afford practically the same view today as they have for one hundred years. The house, old barn and outbuildings create a setting for you to not just see the valley, but actually be a part of it.
You can be as active as you wish—or as inactive. Watch the sun wake up the valley, experience the amazing vistas of a light-free night sky, hike the many trails along the Buffalo River. Canoe, fish, cook, read, visit, explore or just laze around. This farmstay offers many ways for you to enjoy the Upper Buffalo River and the woodlands, pastures, streams, and bluffs that make up the historic Boxley Valley.
Accommodations include two bedrooms upstairs with a full bath and one bedroom downstairs with attached full bath. Common rooms include a sitting room upstairs, a living room downstairs, an eat-in kitchen, and two covered porches.
James Larkin Villines and his wife, Eliza, who built the home, did without electricity or running water until 1942; now, however, guests can enjoy central heat and air, telephone, and wifi.

The farmhouse was warm and cozy in cold weather and breezy in Spring weather. Very comfortable stay with plenty of room for the kids to roam outside - hiking and river so near! House was clean and had everything we needed. A great stay.
I loved this property and even joked I was staying, moving in. The location was in perfect proximity to all the areas we wanted to visit. I sat on the back porch each morning to take in the sights ans sounds while eating breakfast. We enjoyed the yellow finches, ground hog, cows, horse, squirrels etc. I look forward to another stay.
We enjoyed a relaxing and memorable weekend here and can't wait to return! The farm house was impeccably curated with so many thoughtful details. We were delighted to eat out of the red and white china for every meal. The kitchen was well stocked with just about everything you'd need, including cast irons pans, serving dishes, and even martini glasses! We spent most of the weekend in rocking chairs, soaking in the view from the back porch. We enjoyed exploring the garden and being visited at the fence by the neighbor's horse (we shared a few carrots with him). Highly recommend this stay for a relaxing retreat.A few notes:- Wifi is slow and cell data was spotty. Don't expect to stream any TV shows unless you're lucky. We embraced the opportunity to disconnect, and board games are available upstairs.- The kitchen was well stocked with seasonings and utensils, but you may want to bring essentials like cooking oil, ziplock bags, and sharp knives just in case.
Adorable farmhouse! We really enjoyed our stay. It was a great location for the hiking we had planned while in the area. The house itself is great but know that it is an old farmhouse so align your expectations. WiFi is a bit spotty and we did not have cell service in the valley- not a complaint but just an fyi! We loved sitting on the porch in the morning and evening and watching Milo and the bulls. It was so peaceful…just what we needed! The kitchen had everything we needed to cook breakfast and dinner each day.Beautiful area and home!
The host was very prompt and informed us the things we needed to know about checking into the rental. The house was very relaxing, clean and had everything we needed. Would love to stay here again.
Best nights sleep I’ve had away from home. Quiet, had everything we needed, close to the valley. I would suggest a fire pit in the back for cool nights.
This is the most peaceful place I have ever stayed! We loved sitting on the back porch and just soaking in the scenery. The house is lovely and made us feel like we were visiting family. It is conveniently located to Ponca where my son was getting married. We loved our stay! And getting to meet Milo the Mule was an added bonus. I highly recommend this rental!
The house was just as the pictures showed. We lived everything about the house. The location was perfect and we were able to see the elk herds, geese and even an eagle all three days! The memories the house brought back were so happy. We will definitely be back Thank you for sharing your lovely home with us. Frances Dahlem
We loved our stay, the home was great, and full of history, and books about Boxley Valley and surrounding area. We loved feeding 'Milo the Mule' apples & carrots, watching the bulls and stars. And spending our 35th wedding anniversary grounding ourselves in what matters.
A beautiful setting and a really neat farmhouse. Loved spending evenings on the back porch looking out at wildflowers and fireflies and listening to elk calling in the woods behind the property. The house had everything we needed and was a great jumping off point for a weekend riding bikes in the area.
We loved the farmhouse! It was so nicely furnished and comfortable! The hiking was great and the farm was a relaxing place to come home to after a long day of hiking. We will be back!
We came to AR for a couples weekend get away with our best friends. We hiked, floated the lower buffalo over at Tyler’s bend. We loved hanging out on the back porch every morning and evening. We would cruise the valley every evening and watch the elk for a while. The house was as charming and perfect as ever. The host is the sweetest. We love it here and are already planning our third trip back.
