About Mark Hopkins

Owned and operated by Mark & Kathleen Hopkins. We purchased this property in 2004 and with years of sweat and hard work, made this property what it is today. We take pride in our property and it shows when you enter the driveway. We decided to open our home to visitors a few years back, so come and stay with us. Kathy and I are constantly making our place more comfortable with every passing year.

Your hosts;

Mark & Kathleen Hopkins

Mark Hopkins purchased this cottage in 2004

Why Mark Hopkins chose Earleville

This is our 7th year renting out our property. After enjoying our cottage with our family for the past 10 + years, we decided to open our place up for others to enjoy...We like to rent our property to responsible, honest, individuals who will respect our home. If your looking to have a wonderful, relaxing, quiet getaway, then our cottage is the place for you and your family. by the way, our cottage is only a 3-minute drive from The Chateau Bu-De, LLC Bohemia Manor Farm and Winery. Many parties, weddings, and banquets have taken place at the wonderful winery.

If you're looking for a wonderful, relaxing place to stay, we are only a hop, skip and jump away. Just across the river that is...

We love the easy quiet of the Chesapeake. Our cottage allows our family to truly enjoy each others company. We love to water ski, wake board, tubing, canoeing, kayaking, go crabbing or just enjoy hanging out in the water. Ski beach is a very popular area to throw out anchor if you decide to bring your boat and mingle and party with other boaters... At the cottage, we enjoy barbecuing, riding bikes, the hammock and gathering around the campfire ring in the evenings or relaxing in the hot tub.Taking a morning walk or bike ride in the community is another one of the relaxing past times we enjoy. A quiet stroll with my morning coffee overlooking our beach and river cove area is one of my personal favorite morning times. Just absolutely beautiful watching the wildlife and the river come alive...I can't say enough. An absolute must... Come enjoy!

What makes this cottage unique

Located just 75 yards from the river, beach, and dock.. with spectacular views...Canoe, single kayak, and a tandem kayak are available for paddling the bohemia. C Pics. Boating, kayaking, canoeing, water skiing, wakeboarding, tubing, and hanging out in the water at our private beach is just a few things you can do while at our cottage. At our beach area, swimming out to the floating swim platform is always a hit. For the kids, there is bike riding galore. We have 6 bikes available. Children also love to fish from the pier. Crabbing comes alive in late June thru November.Fishing from the Pier is also a favorite for the kids, going over to Elk neck state park and walking the trails, finding the lighthouse and seeing the incredible views of the Chesapeake Bay. Fireworks every 4th of July from our private beach. ( in the past few years, almost every weekend someone is firing off fireworks over the river and you can see them from our private beach and sometimes right out front of our home too!). Taking a 5-minute drive to Chesapeake City and walking the town. Great breakfast, lunch and diner restaurants all within a short walk along the C&D canal. As stated before, you can exhaust yourself here or just decompress to the's all here for you. Come enjoy!

Home away from home!!! 5 stars!!!!!

  • 5 of 5

We have stayed at Mark and Kathy's beautiful cottage a few times and when we come in the front door we get a wonderful and warm feeling! Mark and Kathy are amazing hosts who cannot do enough to make the visit comfortable. The rental process is smooth from start to finish as Mark covers everything completely and responds right away to questions.

The cottage is beautiful , comfortable, and roomy! The upstairs is lovely and has plenty of space for 4 people! The bedroom , living room and kitchen on the main floor are charming and so comfortable.

You will thoroughly enjoy this cottage! The neighborhood is quiet and the water is two minutes away! Did we mention the beautiful Hot Tub ??

We will definitely be back for another visit!!

Lovely little getaway!

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed our stay in your cottage in the Hack's Point community. Thanks for communicating with us quickly when we were arranging plans, and making the trip easy. The house was very cute, clean and had everything we needed. You clearly take a lot of pride in the house and your property. We loved the hammock, hot tub and the fire pit, and thank you for the bottle of wine when we first arrived. The Bohemia river was gorgeous - we were planning to use the canoe (how wonderful that you have kayaks and canoes for guest) but the water got choppy, so we hung-out by the shore, on the little beach. We found many things to do in the area - Loved the Painted Sky Alpaca Farm (the owners were so friendly and open and allowed us to pet the alpacas), the town of Chesapeake City, the Granary restaurant in Georgetown and the Turkey Point lighthouse. Thanks for hosting us and giving us much-needed family time in your adorable home.

Cute, but not a true quiet scenic escape.

  • 3 of 5

This little (good size for a couple with 2 young children, not good for 5 adults) cottage is cute and quaint. With it's nautical themed wooden interiors, it's definitely has a personality of its own and overall there are no real issues with it. Everything inside works, kitchen materials, towels, sheets, etc. are all provided and it's comfortable. The hot tub is a huge, huge plus! And it is nice that the landlord has 2 canoes that you can use to go out onto the river.

However, it's just not really what we were looking for when trying to find a nice scenic and calm city escape from busy city life --It was not a good value for our money, neither.

We expected it to be truly on the water. The house itself is NOT near the waterfront, and there are NO views of the water from the house. The pictures attached with the description of the house are not at all representative of what you see when you are actually in the cottage. You have to walk about a 200 yards away (or a block) to access the nearest river and harbor from the pictures. This isn't a huge deal, but it does mean that you aren't going to be able to drink cocktails or eat dinner outside by the water, you can only do so in the cottage's front yard, The warm water itself is linked to a very small beach though, and it is easy and nice to go swimming.

Our real issues lay with the fact that the neighbors are loud, and the hot tub is right next to the neighbor's house (which is only about 20 feet away) -- the result is that you leave city life for a quiet escape and discover that it is not so quiet after all. There isn't a real sense of privacy.

Owner's Response: Kathy and I are not sure where she was staying... other reviews state differently regarding a peaceful and tranquil atmosphere . The pics of the cottage are real... The access to the beach is in plain site, less than 100yds. There are waterviews of the river from the rear of the living room, kitchen sink , as well as the 2nd story picture window and bathroom on 2nd floor bedroom. Nowhere in our description do we say Waterfront. We are 3 houses from the water and one of many entrances to our river communal areas. We have 3 watercrafts. one canoe; one double kayaks and one single kayak.. Our community has quite hrs between 9pm until 8am. Our community is privately owned with little or no traffic. We do our very best to accommodate and make sure your stay with us is completely at ease. This renter did not respect the check out time of 11 am the day of check out... Now 2:30 pm, I personally had to asked them to immediately vacate the premises. Not enjoying her stay, Isabelle was still bathing on the beach when I arrived at 2:30 pm when check out time is 11am. Really? This is the chance we take as home owners when dealing with the public. Please read all reviews and judge for yourself. Sincerely, Mark and Kathy Hopkins

Excellent rental for our corporate stay.

Myself, my husband and our Great Dane stayed in Mark's vacation home for two months for a work contract in Delaware City. His home served our needs very well. The wifi is very reliable (never had a single issue). The home is back away from it all enough that it was easy to relax after a very long day of work. There's a fire pit and a hot tub (many amenities). The neighborhood is family friend, and the neighbors knew us by name quickly. There's a small beach just a short (two minute) walk away, and access to boat docks. There's also a community green space where you can walk your pets as well. The beds were comfy, the house was clean and the kitchen was well stocked with appliances/utensils for cooking anything you'd like. Mark and Kathy left us a bottle of wine to begin our stay as well. Very communicative and helpful hosts. We would consider staying here again if we have another contract in the area. Many thanks to Mark and Kathy for the easy-going and positive experience.

Very relaxing!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I were looking for a quiet, clean place with access to the outdoors and all of the comforts of home and this place was perfect! We really enjoyed the short walk to the beach, lounging in the hot tub, and sitting on the covered patio during a thunder storm. Mark was great at communicating quickly and returning our deposit promptly. I highly recommend this property to anyone looking for the comfort of a home away from home.

Nice home with very accommodating owners

  • 5 of 5

We stayed over the Christmas holiday to be near our children. The house is nicely decorated and very comfortable. The owners checked on us several times while there to see if we needed anything, which was a first. We had a fire in the fire pit several times, and there really is plenty of firewood. Our son hosted Christmas dinner but we cooked a lot of things to take. The kitchen is the best appointed we have seen in our 20 years of renting on VRBO. Last, but certainly not least, there were condiments and spices, coffee and creamer and sugar, toilet paper and paper towels, and even shampoo and conditioner. Since we arrived in the late afternoon after a long drive, it was nice knowing that we didn't have to run to the store that evening. We replaced everything we used but it certainly was a convenience. We would definitely stay at this house again and would highly recommend it to others. Thanks Mark and Kathy.
