This cabin is a haven from the high stress world. It’s private, surrounded by pine trees and rests only 50 feet away from beautiful Embden Pond. The Pond is pristine, spring fed and is 5 miles long. It is actually the size of a lake but it is called a pond in Maine. The sun rises earlier in Maine than anywhere else in America which gives you more hours to enjoy your stay on the Lake. The days are longer on the East side and you enjoy the beautiful sunsets. The cabin is our vacation home which we have decided to share with you this year. Built in the 50’s it now has all the modern conveniences you will need for a comfortable stay. There are two bedrooms and a loft for sleeping. Kids and adults enjoy sleeping in the loft which is like a birds nest overlooking the cabin and the lake. It has a large aluminum dock for ease of boating, fishing or just relaxing. The kitchen is large for many people to cook and prepare meals at the same time. The long counter top allows for serving buffet style. which is a Maine tradition. The gas grill is handy right outside of the kitchen. Everything you need is there, so if you are flying in, just pick up your food and drinking water... and you are set. Our place is pet friendly.
Norm and I have been married for 15 years, and he is from Maine and spent many childhood summers at camps on Embden. I fell in love with Maine and especially Embden Pond on my first visit. We currently live in an old bungalow in St. Petersburg, Florida and are still working full time. We have a wonderful life in Florida , however we will be spending many retirement months on Embden Pond. We spend all our vacation time at "camp", which is what the locals call it. Every May we spend a week opening and preparing the camp for summer guests and include a "to do list" of upgrades each year, as it our home too. I enjoy watching my husband putting in the dock, with his kindergarten friend, Le laughing as they work together in the lake. Norm's friends are always there for us to help us with our upgrades and eat at the camp! As we cannot be there as much as we would like, we really enjoy sharing it. We have finally named it "TALL PINES" after many, many options from friends. When you come there, you will see why the name fits perfectly.
KATHE BIERHOFF purchased this cabin in 2008
Norm's parents were actually friends with the original owners of this camp. In the 50's, three couples, who were all good friends, had built their cabins next to each other. My mother-in-law still reminisces about the musicians who played as well as all the great times she had there. The cabin location is such a draw, that we have had a wedding on the lake there, many family gatherings and even a girls retreat birthday week. I enjoy socializing and shopping too! So girls, here are some of my favorites ; Reny's - the Maine experience store (my favorite and you MUST go there), Madison Thrift Shop, The Evergreens restaurant, Pinkham's corner grocery and Moxie Falls. I just love the people in Maine as they are the friendliest I have ever found. We rarely see the neighbors, but we always enjoy them and they are there anytime we need them. I consider one of them my "sister". That is another reason I love being there.
What we enjoy most about our cabin is the wonderful secluded privacy and the nature. I wake up earlier than I do at home, get the coffee and sit outside listening to the birds and the breeze, before my husband wakes up. When he wakes up, we sit on the deck and continue our peaceful contentment. We love watching the early morning fishermen and see the hummingbirds at our feeders. While here I even bake, which I do not have time or care to do at home. Somehow this cabin reverts me back to the days when women can just be. I love to relax with a good book on the deck, or at night reading inside while listening to the Loons. Every evening we sit by the campfire (as my husband is the campfire king). You will know that as soon as you see the size of the fire pit. We supply all the firewood you will need for your night time campfires. After my husband goes to sleep, I enjoy reading and even getting on my laptop, as I am doing right now at 9:59pm on May 22nd after 4 days of working my "honey do lists". This year we installed gravel and graded the driveway that was washing out, a new washer machine, a kitchen faucet, an AC unit (for the rare, few summer days it is warm) and carried many rocks to create our stone lined path. We enjoyed every minute while being there, working and relaxing at the same time.
Norm and Kathy have stocked the cabin with everything you need . Very clean and comfortable. Stores and fresh seafood are nearby to stock the fridge and cabinets . Restaurants around if you choose not to cook. There's plenty to do onsite and many places to see whether it be an hour drive , a day trip or if you want to skip on over to Canada and then Come back. The possibilities are endless. We crammed as much as we could in while we were there and enjoyed downtime on the lake. There is something for everyone. Highly recommended for a couples or family getaway
We were looking for a camp close to Madison to visit family and friends, this camp was perfect. Growing up in the area, spending many summers, at camp, Tall Pines was a page from my childhood. The camp was set up great with all you'd want for the kids and adults. Privacy, family cookouts, swimming and more swimming. Rummy was played, ghost stories told, drinks were poured, and family secrets were spilt. Can't say enough except wished I'd had another week. The only issue was, because of not wanting to go to town, I missed out on seeing some people.
Even though we are local, we wanted to enjoy the lake over the 4th of July. The cabin had everything we needed. There were a lot of fireworks on the lake, which was enjoyed while sitting around the fire pit. Perfect after a day filled with swimming and kayaking from the private dock!
Last year we rented a camp that had a shared dock, which we were not aware of until people started coming and using it. This cabin's dock is not only private, but offers a nice ladder with flat rocks below to enter the pond without hurting your feet. The water depth is waist high but does get deeper at a nice decline. We were able to secure our friend's fishing boat to the dock, which was handy.
We highly recommend this rental!
I drove up from Tennessee to enjoy a nice quiet week by myself in Maine, and I was not disappointed. This cabin was perfect. They had all the utensils I needed for cooking. I took several trips onto the lake with the kayak, and enjoyed the nice cool nights with a warm fire in the large fire pit located next to the water. I didn't even have to go get firewood or kindling. It was provided! I would definitely consider coming back here in the future. I didn't have a cellphone reception all week, but I did not even miss it. However, I will miss the evening loon calls echoing across the lake. I would highly recommend this cabin to anyone looking to get away and unwind.
My wife and I retired in 2015 so we could go in search of all the other fun things there are to see and do in this world. We both enjoyed the careers we retired from. After a summer “working” at the Virgelle Mercantile Antiques & Accommodations along Montana’s Upper Missouri National Wild & Scenic River – a great place - we loaded our car and began a slow drive east. New England’s Fall Colors were our focus, Maine was our goal. On our trip east we looked online at numerous vacation rental properties to serve as our “Welcome to Maine” experience and we were drawn to the Tall Pines Cabin. It turned out to be just right. The cabin is comfortably furnished, kitchen well-equipped, water recreation gear available, and Embden Pond itself sets a wonderful tone, 24/7. Waking in bed each morning to the changing view of the lake was perfect! We enjoyed a real sense of relaxation during our week “On Embden Pond,” but also had some great experiences meeting the locals at the Embden Community Center’s community dinners and Sunday afternoon’s Country Music Jam Sessions, cooking locally purchased live lobster with help from the cabin owner’s guidebook & cookbooks, and exploring this area of Maine with help, again, from the cabin’s guidebook suggestion for hikes to waterfalls and driving loops. Owners Kathy and Norm are easy to work with, fun to meet and so gracious to share such a great place with all of us. Thanks and enjoy the Tall Pines Cabin for yourself.
We have been vacationing on Embden Pond for several years and had been in search of the perfect rental. This year we found it in Tall Pines. This place was fantastic and had everything we could possibly need in a lakeside rental. We enjoyed the private dock, large fire pit (Including plenty of firewood) and beautiful sunsets. The cabin had everything you need to feel comfortable including air conditioning on hot summer nights. The owners were great to deal with and made you feel welcomed by checking in with you (via email) upon arrival. We are so looking forward to returning to Tall Pines Next Summer!
