The living areas have an open floor plan with a fully equipped modern kitchen, a TV with cable, a DVD/VCR player, wi-fi connection, a gas log fireplace and an outdoor grill. The master bath has a whirlpool tub and separate shower and there is a separate laundry/utility room. About Ann and Randy Roark
We were looking for a mountain cottage near our son and his family near Boone, NC. Not only did we find exactly what we wanted but got the added bonus of being on one of the most beautiful lakes in America! Then we realized we landed in one of the richest musical areas, as well, ranging from the Carter Famliy to the celtic music traditions. Plus there is great hiking near-by, the Appalachian trail crosses the lake, and we are not far from snow skiing in the Southern Appalachians? You gotta be kidding! I know you will love it too!
Ann and Randy Roark purchased this House in 2006

Great weekend on the lake
My family and I had a great weekend staying at this secluded home. We did not have cell service but the wifi made up for that (so many apps now that came be used for texting and calling through wifi). It's a good idea to bring your own small TV if your child is going to hook up a gaming system, all that is currently in the home is a small tube TV which does not have the proper hooks ups. Or you can let it be an excuse to escape all that for the weekend ;-) Also a good idea to bring your own propane for the gas grill. We'd brought a griddle which we used for everything once we realized the gas was out. Super nice appliances (gas range), plenty of space, lots of bathrooms. The 4th bedroom is an open room on the lower level with a futon but this was fine with us since it was for a child (if 4 couples were renting this home they might not like that), same with the 3rd bedroom which had 2 twins. Master bedroom is on the lower level but was very nice. We rented a pontoon boat at Fish Springs (rentals are 8-6) and the kids just loved it, Lake Watauga is gorgeous. We ate dinner at Shirley's that night and it was fantastic family style country cooking. We always come up against a weekend that straddles when 2 of my kids are at camp at Doe River in Hampton (pick on up Friday, next one goes back Sunday) and living as far away as we do this may become a tradition for us!
What a great deal
We spent three nights at the house over July 4th weekend. The house provided a lot of space and great layout for our group of four adults and two kids. It was the perfect retreat for us to shield away from summer heat from canopy of surrounding trees and cool mist of Watauga lake. What a blessing to wake up in chirping of birds, sip a cup of coffee on deck in fresh mountain air, and enjoy a gourmet meal after a day's activities. Ann was very helpful for providing us local information. We visited Roan Mountain, hiked Appalachian trail and Laurel Fork waterfall, fished at Watauga lake, and pontooned at South Holston Lake. What a memorable vacation. Thanks for all the accommodation and we cannot wait to be back.
COULDN'T ASK FOR A BETTER STAY!!
This house met and exceeded all of our expectations. My boyfriend and I, my parents, and his dad all enjoyed a wonderful weekend at this house. The layout of the house was perfect for us. We took the downstairs(master bedroom) and our parents each had a bedroom and bathroom of their own upstairs. This house is great to go to if you want some great quality time, minus the distractions of TV's, cellphones, internet. Yes, this house only had one, small TV, with limited channel selection, no cell phone service, and no WiFi.....and we loved it!!!! I think sometimes people get carried away with everyday "necessities" and they forget what it is like to actually have to have communication with the people they love. We rented this house for Bristol weekend so all of us could stay together and not in separate hotel rooms. The house is about 35-40 minutes from the track, however, it was a very easy drive. We are hoping to make this a yearly trip...and hopefully we will be able to rent this wonderful house again.
Wonderful Mountain Getaway
This is a lovely cabin, very secluded on a mountain facing a cove of the beautiful green waters of Lake Wautauga. Nice views, comfortable and roomy, great kitchen, awesome master suite. Close to the Lake and several boat ramps. Try Shirley's for breakfast (weekends only). Thinking of making this an annual trip, we so enjoyed it. Owner was super nice, helpful and friendly. Only con was no WiFi or cell service. One of our group had to drive to "town" to answer some work e-mails and check on ill relative. Also, the gas grill LP tank was empty. We would definitely recommend this wonderful rental!!!!
enjoyed the conveniently located house and discovered East Tennessee! The house was secluded and well suited for 6 adults and completely met our needs. The owner was most helpful and accommodating as we planned our trip and had good local information available in the house upon arrival. We rented a pontoon boat at Mallard Cove Marina and spent an entire day on beautiful Wautaga Lake, surrounded by glorious mountains. We visited Mountain City and enjoyed dinner in Elizabethon, drove to Blowing Rock and took the Blue Ridge Parkway to Little Switzerland and took off the parkway on the return trip and drove local roads back to Butler. Stopped at Hidden Treasures Antiques & Unique Things in Elk Park, NC, where we were greeted by a lovely and helpful owner. We discovered an area we would like to revisit and get to know better!
