About Dale and Carol Miller
We are originally from California and would vacation on this wonderful island. We decided to move to this peaceful place and now have the opportunity to share our home with others. Dale grew up in the mountain areas of California and I grew up by the San Francisco bay, so Herron Island gave us the best of both. The views are spectacular and we are enjoying this beautiful state.
Dale and Carol Miller purchased this House in 2015
Why Dale and Carol Miller chose Lakebay
We fell in love with this property because it has a private beach on the Puget Sound, a lagoon filled with live oysters, the most beautiful sunsets, it's spectacular views of the Olympic mountains and the unique friendly wild life.
What makes this House unique
This island is unique because it is a private island. All residential. We have our own private ferry which takes us back and forth to the mainland. It is peaceful, tranquil and a lot of activities to do on the island. We have available to guests, kayaks, paddle board, paddle boat, and row boat. The deer are unique here on the island they will eat out of your hands.

Everything we hoped for and more
From the initial trip planning to the end of our stay, everything was perfect. My husband and I spent months planning our vacation and were drawn to the Sunset Lagoon because of the proximity to the Puget Sound, the stunning view of the Olympic Mountains, the oyster lagoon, and the idea of the quiet life on a private island. Dale and Carol were quick to answer all of our questions prior to our arrival, and treated us like family during our stay. We harvested and feasted on more oysters and clams than we could have ever dreamed of. While in Seattle on a shopping trip, we asked Carol for her from-scratch Clam Chowder recipe so we could pick up everything we needed as there are no stores on the island. She said not to shop for any of the ingredients because she had everything. We were stunned by her thoughtfulness. When we arrived back on the island, she had the ingredients measured out in containers on a serving platter with the recipe printed out. All we had to do was harvest the clams while the tide was low. And it was definitely the best clam chowder either of us had ever eaten. The accommodations are very spacious, modern, clean and comfortable and the decor is beautiful. The large bed is very comfortable with plenty of pillows. The deck faces to the west, promising the most gorgeous sunsets imaginable. Thank you Dale and Carol for your kindness and sharing your lovely home with us.
We thoroughly enjoyed this couple. We received beautiful flowers from our guests which was so thoughtful. Wonderful couple to host.
An amazing cabin with a beautiful view!
We stayed for two nights and our only regret is that we didn't plan for more time. We ate oysters and clams in abundance, had fun on all the boats and sat and watched the sun go down each night. What a great time!
It was fun having Evie and her family along with friends. So glad they were have so much fun in the water and in the backyard. Our guests left the place in great shape. I recommend this family to other HomeAway host.
Relaxing on the island
Great getaway for relaxing and taking in the beautiful views. Dale and Carol are very warm and accommodating hosts. Our son had a great time fishing (catch and release) and we ate fresh oysters out of the lagoon. I highly recommend Sunset Lagoon if your looking for a relaxing getaway.
Wonderful guests! We enjoyed hosting them. Left our place very clean and tidy. I would recommend them to other hosts.
Perfect Getaway, Spectacular Hosts and Views!
My husband wishes that we could give this property "10 Stars"
Carol and Dale were diligent with correspondence and made sure to inform us of all the "extras" we needed to know to travel there, including sending a Ferry Schedule. They were delightful hosts, greeting us upon arrival, showing us around and even helped unload our luggage. They quickly exited, leaving us to enjoy our family time. Carol left us carrots and apples for the deer, who greeted us shortly after arrival. My kids absolutely loved feeding, petting and watching the deer. There were four doe and two fawn that frequently visited throughout our stay.
The property was immaculately clean and very up to date. It was decorated in a beautiful fashion and every amenity was available to us. Gorgeous layout, with huge windows facing the water. We were able to enjoy the view from nearly every location in the property. Huge porch overlooking the water, where we ate most of our meals and watched for sea life.
There was a fire pit and plenty of outdoor seating on the property. There were kayaks, canoe and paddle boat available for us to use. Dale even took us on a boat ride around the island where we were able to see sea lions and seals.
We really enjoyed gathering the Oysters and Clams and cooking them on the grill. The weather there was perfect! Being from Wisconsin, we really appreciated the fact that there were no mosquitoes and very few flies. Evenings were spent on the porch watching the breath taking sunsets. Beaches were full of beautiful scenery and were very quiet. My kids went to the park and enjoyed learning to play pickle ball.
I would highly recommend this property to anyone looking for a beautiful, unique, clean, quiet getaway. It is perfect for a romantic getaway or for family adventure. It is by far one of our families favorite vacations thus far!
Thanks again Carol and Dale! We hope to visit again.
We absolutely loved this family. They were fun guests and we would recommend them to other host. Wonderful guests!
All the other 5 star reviews are correct
Everything all the other five-star reviews said is right. Great place, exactly as advertised. Dale and Carol were excellent hosts. We've stayed at lots of places and this one ranks high in terms of the value and the stay.
Peaceful area with lots of interesting wildlife
This is a wonderful place to get away from the hustle and bustle of life. My husband and I have very stressful lives and needed a peaceful and quite place to go where we could rest, relax and have a little fun, we found it on Herron Island. The host's Dale and Carol were so caring and thoughtful and went out of their way to make sure our trip was what we wanted it to be. Our first day we collected lots of clams and oysters for dinner, they were wonderful. Later in the week Dave and Carol allowed us to use their Kayaks and for the first time in our lives we went kayaking which is something we've wanted to do for a very long time. The water was calm and we saw a large jellyfish and some seals jumping in and out of the water, splashing their tails collecting fish. There are lots of deer on the Island and they will eat out of your hand although mama deer didn't want to share so we threw carrots to the littler ones so they could eat too we also saw dolphins swimming in the peninsula and several types of birds. One thing you need to get used to is using the Ferry, since it only runs at certain times and sometimes a route will be cancelled due to the tides or other reasons you may need to wait for the next one to come. Thankfully Dale and Carol, gave us the option of coming earlier and/or leaving later so we would not miss our ride.
This is a very nice place to stay when you want to get away.
Herron Island is a private island with a lot of activities. Kayaking, row boating, paddle boarding, paddle boating, swimming, and hiking is available. However if you do want to go off the island by car there are a lot of quaint towns nearby within 30 to 40 minutes away. (Gig Harbor, Port Orchard). By Bremerton ferry take a trip to Seattle (1 hr 45 min) or by car which is the same amount of time. Tacoma is 45 minutes away by car and offers everything a big city has to offer. ( museums, zoo, shopping)
