Overview

About the property

2 bedroom, 1 bathroom with expansive lake views - and private dock and beach.

Escape from the world at Caywood Cottage! You'll feel your worries melting away as you leave the pavement behind and wind your way through 1.25 miles of vineyards before arriving home. This cozy cottage on a private, dead end gravel road (that we share with Silver Thread Winery!) features modern conveniences, wooded privacy and lake access for those wishing to relax, sip, and splash.

A short flight of stairs from our four-car parking area leads you to a wonderfully large deck. If you're able to tear yourself away from the view, the front door leads you into a bright, open great room. The beautiful eat-in kitchen opens to the living area with a full-size futon and a flat screen TV, with Netflix and a blu-ray player, complete with a wide array of videos for cinefiles of all ages. A closet full of games and books, help pass the occasional rainy day - or provide a welcome distraction after dinner before a night of campfire, S'mores and Riesling! Original hardwood floors bring clean character to the home and huge picture windows with breath-taking panoramic lake views escort the outside beauty in. Two cozy bedrooms, each with a queen size bed, join the living room futon in providing comfortable sleeping spaces for up to 6 adults!

A full bathroom with a new corner shower enclosure and a stacked washer-dryer will help you clean up from a day hike or lounging at the lake - and get ready for a night out at one of the area's many restaurants, wineries, or breweries.

To access the private lakefront, guests can either walk or drive down the gravel drive to the lake, where 50 feet of private lakefront, outdoor furniture, a fire ring, and dock are available. There is parking for 2 cars near the shed, and a canoe is provided for your aquatic exploration.

On the east shore of Seneca Lake and close to the west-side of Cayuga Lake, Caywood Cottage is surrounded by some of the best wineries, breweries, and distilleries in the area! Historic Watkins Glen and it's jaw-dropping State park is only a 25 minute drive south, and the cities of Geneva and Ithaca are a short drive away. Escape into nature in less than 30 minutes at the majestic Taughannock Falls and only 20 minutes to the peaceful splendor of the Finger Lakes National Forest.

At Caywood Cottage, you CAN have it all - privacy, views, a deck to grill and sip on, a quiet dock to sit on - and still be nearby the most popular area attractions and activities!

About Greg and Charity Pembroke

Growing up in Western New York, I spent my summers life-guarding at a Boy Scout camp just down the lake. With a young family of my own, I couldn't resist buying my own little spot to enjoy with them.

Greg and Charity Pembroke purchased this cottage in 2016

Why Greg and Charity Pembroke chose Seneca Lake

Deep and wide, Seneca Lake provides an unmatched beauty - and being in the heart of both the Seneca and Cayuga Lake wine trails doesn't hurt! With close proximity to both Watkins Glen and Ithaca, you'll never run out of things to do in the area. Every time you turn around there is a new restaurant, winery, distillery, or brewery to explore.

What makes this cottage unique

Drive up lake convenience is a must for people with mobility issues - or even if you just have a cooler and beach toys that you'd like to bring with you to the lake. Get the view of a cottage on the bluff, but the convenience of a level, driveable, lakefront by staying in this unique Seneca community!

Great Rental

  • 5 of 5

Adorable cottage, perfect for a weekend trip to the Finger Lakes. Close to tons of wineries so the location was nice with beautiful views of the lake from the deck. Well stocked with kitchen equipment, DVDs, books, had everything we needed. Just wish we could have stayed longer! Owner was very communicative and responsive!

Wonderful relaxing week at the lake.

  • 5 of 5

Spent one week at the cottage this August. The weather was fabulous which allowed us to maximize our time outside.

We spent much of our days hiking in the numerous state parks nearby then stopping for a tasting at one of the many winery's, breweries or distilleries. After dinner we would use the kayaks provided and explore and then relax by the fire.

The location is out of the way and very quiet but still near plenty of civilization and activity. We stayed busy and saw as much of the area as we could make time for.

The home base is comfortable, clean and as previously mentioned very quiet.

My only complaint is the cottage does not have stairs down to the lake so you need to either drive or take about a 5 minute walk to the beach. Small inconvenience and it didn't prevent us from being at the waterside when we wanted.

Breathe taking views

  • 4 of 5

For a little cottage, it has everything you need and could want. Beds are comfortable too. The neighbors are nice. Location on lake is great, close to the best wineries, Watkins Glen, boat rentals, everything. I'd give it 5 stars except getting to the lake is a pain. Not the owners fault, they are upfront about it. A huge staircase would make it 5 stars. Still fun though and I'd rent again. The fireflies are worth the trip.

Cozy little cottage

  • 4 of 5

Very nice place with a beautiful view of Seneca Lake. You do need to go down a dirt road for about 2 miles off of the main road. Right on the lake, though there is a cliff there so need to go down the road to get onto the lake. We had 4 people stay, with plenty of room. Would stay again.

Lovely comfortable lake side cabin. Well stocked with anything you could possibly need. Amazing views of Seneca Lake! Great location right on Seneca wine trail, close to many great wineries, brew pubs, and restaurants. Owners were attentive and accommodating ensuring we had all we needed for a great trip. We all just loved being so close to the lake. Would love to make it back for a longer stay!
