Hansel and Gretel meet Restoration Hardware in this magical, two-story carriage house!
A wonderful place for enjoying your time in Seattle. Part rustic hunting lodge - part romantic cabin. Very private, very classy and very fun! Comfortable and well equipped for all of your needs.
Situated at the intersections of Capitol Hill, Eastlake and Portage Bay neighborhoods which are very central to all Seattle has to offer and a really cool area to call home while you explore Seattle and really get a sense of enjoying city life.
Walk to wonderful restaurants, party at the hip Pine/Pike corridor, watch the sunset from the West side of our location, and the sunrise just down the hill....both within a very short (5 minutes?) walk. Super quick drive or very short cab ride downtown, walk to U-District, Gas Works Park the Arboretum, Broadway, Madison Park, Volunteer Park, and bike just about anywhere on the Burke-Gilman trail just across the bridge or at the extreme mountain bike course (look up 1-5 Colannade Mountain Bike Park). Jump on a paddleboard or rent a kayak just on the other side of the bridge as well - (Check out Aqua Verde Paddle Club and Cafe :) Skiing and tubing is an hour away at Snoqualmie Pass, or you can go wine tasting at Chateau St. Michelle or check out Redhook Brewery in Woodinville. White water rafting is about 60-90 minutes as well. There is a lot to do here!
Families will love the separate spaces on the top floor and main floor, hidden nooks, shelves and shelves of games and toys for ALL ages, enjoy the rustic and comfortable features and careful attention to every detail.
Totally refinished with all modern amenities including Rinnai water heater(never out), gas range, stainless steel appliances, air conditioning, stereo system, high speed internet, cable for two tv's, xbox, tons of movies, games and books.
Sleeps quite 6 comfortably, and 8 if necessary with very comfortable beds with down comforters, wonderful linens and mattresses including a tempurpedic. Two main bedrooms on first level, and space for at least 4 with one bed and a futon and a 'secret nook' on the second floor.
Two fireplaces, full - subway tiled bathroom with chandelier, fantastic modern and rustic lighting throughout. Full kitchen with dishwasher and all of the necessary equipment to entertain, cook and prepare meals or relax and open a bottle of wine and party with friends!
This is a great place that has been enjoyed by families, (in fact a group of 9 were very comfortable here), friends, girls weekends, guys weekends, wedding parties, and extended stays. The courtyard and location of the house give this place real added private feel in the middle of the city.
It really is a great place to enjoy a vacation or get away! Let me know if I can help you plan anything, or if you have any questions that I can help with. We love this place, and really want you to be able to enjoy your time here too.
Managed by 'ex' Four Seasons Hotel employee and clean freak.
Now follow Seattle Carriage House on Twitter!!
We have lived all over Seattle and love the Capitol Hill, Eastlake neighborhoods and have now, are enjoying the wonderful views of Portage Bay! This is a wonderful community tucked at the edge of four wonderful water features: Lake Washington, Lake Union, Portage Bay and the Montlake Cut.
The picture above is prior to any renovation when home was still in its 'primitive' state :)
Jill McCormick purchased this cottage in 2012
This is the most unique and charming property I have ever seen. Everyone who comes into the carriage house and the main house are charmed by the striking differences between the two era's (10's and 50's).
I understand the selection process you are going through, and have been through it multiple times of my own. It is hard to decide how to spend your money and make sure that the time you have away is not disappointing.
This home is really meant to be a vacation rental. Everything inside is designed for your comfort. It is not cluttered, it is thoughtful. There are no weird smells, or cheap features. This is a quality home with careful attention to detail and charm.
We look forward to continuing with the care and attention that older buildings require, as this one is certainly worth having around! We take every opportunity to make it a better place at each check in and out.
I think among other things that people find charming about this house, is that it was actually a functioning carriage home for many years. The actual 'carriage doors' were given to a restoration company when we purchased the property. The bedrooms and kitchen were horse stables and the bathroom was the tack room. The spiraling stairway up to the top was where they stored the hay!
It is made of stone and very thick insulation so that the upstairs area is actually very insulated from the downstairs area.
I can not imagine a more unique - historical property - so close to the city hub.
Jill I wanted to take a moment and let you know how wonderful your little house was for us!
LOCATION, location, location! Easy on and off with the I-5
It was so great to have a kitchen--you had every pot and pan needed! Yes the steamer basket was great to steam the whole crabs!
Tea pot and coffee maker was Ideal---the added supplies really saved us--tea, coffee, creamer, sugar and sweet & Low- salt and pepper !!!
The baking dishes- pie pan, rectangle pans , sheet pan and even cup cake pans, WAS PERFECT! ( was looking for a mixer or blender for baking but just wipped with my hand! it was fine)
Your outdoor area was IDEAL- & perfect-- BBQ, tables, chairs MUSIC was great--and yes the chickens---those eggs really came in handy! lol The bamboo skewers sticks came in handy also for the seafood Kabobs. THANKS- my nephew enjoyed his birthday on the patio
Your bathroom was beautiful- the added soap, shampoo and conditioner was excellent!!! all of the linens was great- thanks for the laundry soap too! Blow dryer, straightener was great, iron also came in handy! ( not sure if you had a folding ironing board- just used the bed! )
The loft area was perfect for the two teen boys to get away from us adults! :)
We loved our time in Seattle. The weekend was perfect---went to hike Mt Rainer, rattle snake lake for a hike to the cliff ledge, Leavenworth for rafting, then to Anacortez, Oak Harbor and Deception Pass- was absolutely beautiful! We had the chance to visit new IN LAWS in La Conner--cute little town--want to return for the tulips! :)
Tiny little cottage with two small bedrooms each containing a bed large enough for two people, a dining room area with a TV and fireplace, a moderate sized kitchen, and a loft with a sitting/reading room and the third largest bedroom.
Great location (many restaurants within walking distance and bus line literally steps from the front door) and just enough space for myself, my wife, mother-in-law, and our toddler. Toddler stayed upstairs by herself (with the house provided pack and play - very nice bonus!) and slept great without any interuption from the adults talking downstairs. This was in part due to the natural white noise that the house has due to it's close proximity to the highway I-5. If you have to sleep in total silence, then bring earplugs; I generally sleep with a fan on in order to have white noise and found it unnecessary here. Highway traffic noise is noticeable but muffled enough that it doesn't disrupt.
The only downside is the single bathroom. With three adults it was managable, but I think if we had a fourth adult it would have been a little frustrating in the morning.
Overall the stay was great though - one of the most graciously equipped kitchens we've ever had at a rental - and we would stay again if in the area.
What a cute place! We loved the many thoughtful touches, especially in the upstairs with its array of games and books for kids. Our boys felt at home right away, and were quickly going out to see the chickens. The property was spotless and just as described. And Jill was lovely to work with - friendly and very helpful. I would definitely stay here again.
We had an absolutely wonderful stay at the Carriage House! Jill was amazing-she checked on us, brought over a high chair, and made sure we had everything. She gave suggestions on places to go, things to do, and even showed us a "secret" spot to watch the 4th of July fireworks! Our house had everything we needed and more and even had toys for our 1 year old. Thanks for a fabulous stay!
Brilliant little house, it had bags of character and a really homely feel. It was perfect for our family (a 3yr old and an 8 month old), so much so that our 3yr old didn't want to leave. The chickens were great fun and my son loved collecting the eggs. The house had loads of toys, books, baby equipment, and even games consoles.
The hosts couldn't have been more accommodating and helped us if we needed anything, and there was a bus stop really close which made getting into town very easy. We would definitely stay here again!
This was a perfect location for our group of 8! The house is adorable and homey! More than enough space for everyone to sleep! The backyard space was a perfect location for a fire pit at night. I would definitely recommend to stay at this home and would definitely stay here again the next time I am in Seattle!
I couldn't take in all my extended family for a reunion and
this carriage house was excellent for us!
If you are new to Seattle, there is a lot to offer! How do you start to narrow down choices and neighborhoods of a place you haven't visited? I understand, and have been in your shoes before. I have been very disappointed by locations that were labeled as 'urban' and equally disappointed by places that were mislabeled 'private'....I take pride in the fact by honestly saying, this carriage house is an 'urban oasis'. Yes, we are in the city, yes, we are near busy streets, yes, you will see people, buses, traffic, but if you look out your window, you will see trees, and tranquility. A short half blocks distance in nearly any direction will lead you to water. This is the funniest little piece of land in Seattle. We have lived in many of the neighborhoods around the city and will never leave this place. We LOVE it here!!
We are located at the intersection of North Capitol Hill, Portage Bay, Eastlake and Montlake neighborhoods. Some of the most premier neighborhoods in the city of Seattle. Enjoy nearby historic nearby parks, lush walking and jogging trails just steps away, high end shopping both downtown and at University Village, and amazing restaurants in literally every direction!
This intersection has our property sitting just to the East of Lake Union, to the South of the Montlake Cut, to the West of Portage Bay and the West of Lake Washington....all visible by a short walk of maybe half a block in any direction.
Husky Football Fans!! Walk to games in new stadium! Enjoy jumping into the crowd as they make their way towards Husky Stadium on game day!! Public transit is just half a block away, and so is the newly implemented public bicycle program (rent a bike).
The Seattle Carriage house is very close to getting around to all areas of town. Walk to many restaurants and coffee shops, walk to the parks, walk to the water or kayak rentals. Also, a super close drive to almost all Seattle attractions.
Great option for longer term needs for those caring for family in close by hospitals. Many of our guests have stayed for more than 1 month. The Cancer Care Alliance and Fred Hutchinson are very close, as is Seattle Childrens Hospital.
We offer non zoned street parking, and for our long term guests, we are happy to arrange an off street parking option for you.
The Seattle Carriage House is a home of pride for us and we enjoy sharing it with others. I hold a degree and background in hospitality so strive to ensure that all aspects of your vacation or trip are attended to or...more importantly met prior to arrival.
Let us know if you have any questions or concerns about your time here in Seattle. We would love to make your experience here as memorable as possible.
