Escape to this unique house in picturesque Shoreland Hills in Michigan City. With 3 bedrooms including a king bed, queen bed, and sofa bed (along with air mattresses for more), this cozy artist's retreat is perfect for families or small groups of friends. Access to private beach at Stop 31 is less than 1/2 mile walk through a quiet neighborhood filled with dunes and oak trees.

Whether heading out for a day at the beach or staying in and grilling or playing board games, you'll find plenty to do without having to get in the car.

Enjoy the convenience of a full kitchen, eating areas indoors and out, a large living room and 2 bathrooms (one on each level) with a shower, bathtub, and plenty of provided amenities.

The property itself offers expansive outdoor space and nature views all year long with a deck and picture windows overlooking Blueberry pond. Deer, herons, ducks and many other birds are frequent visitors.

Stargaze by the outdoor fire pit in warmer months or cozy up by the indoor gas fireplace in the sunken living room. Read or just watch the wildlife as you rock in everyone's favorite hanging chair.

We offer use of a grill and shared access to beach toys and bikes for our guests. Located less than 10 min drive from attractions, restaurants and shopping in Michigan City, IN and New Buffalo, MI. Conveniently close to grocery stores and other vacation must-haves.

Please note: the staircase to the second floor is a spiral staircase. People with mobility issues should consider their comfort with using the stairs. Two bedrooms are upstairs, and one is on the main level, with access to the deck. No boating, fishing or swimming in the pond.

Failure to complete these may result in a negative review from the host.
The pond is privately owned. No fishing, boating or swimming in the pond.
Please read beach use policy. Beach pass is available for Stop 31. Must abide by Shoreland Hills beach rules. Lost pass will incur $175 fee.

What an amazing place to stay. Very lovely, roomy, and accommodating. My family and I loved the private access to the Beach, which was in walking distance. The view of the pond in the backyard was nice and reminded us of home. (:

Overall the property is very beautiful and the neighborhood is very quiet! The beach was great. A lot to do and visit. The only complaint we had was halfway through the week, an old gentleman came to the house and told us that he owned the pond in the back and that we couldn't kayak or fish it because it was private property and he didn't have insurance for other people to use it. That was the main reason we rented it is to be able to use our kayaks and fish it. So, if you want to do that this is not the place for you. But it still was very nice.

Why they chose this property

Since 2018, Shoreland Hills has been our oasis away from the city. We love everything to do with lake life, and while we enjoy the lake on the Chicago side, there's nothing like watching the sun set over what feels like the ocean. We had been visiting Southwest Michigan for over 10 years, and we loved everything Michigan had to offer but didn't love having to cross a busy highway to get to the beach. Our realtor turned us on to this lesser-known enclave just over the border in Indiana, which boasts all the benefits of Michigan lake life but with a less touristy feel, a quieter neighborhood vibe and unspoiled Lake Michigan coastline. Even better, it's a shorter drive from Chicago!

What makes this property unique

Built in 1980, our home has a unique bohemian feel, with a sunken living room, spiral staircase, vaulted ceilings and huge fireplace wall. Enjoy nature views while swinging in our hanging chair. One of only 4 homes on Blueberry pond, we offer a unique rental unlike any others in the neighborhood.
