Hello! My name is Bruce. Welcome to New Orleans. I am a retired Chemical Engineer, who presently owns & operates The Junque Shop Antique Store in the Faugborg Marigny, at the base of world famous Frenchmen Street. I personally renovated my home in 2005-2006.

Why Bruce Blew chose Algiers

This is a Raised 'Shotgun' Double built in 1929, completely renovated in 2005-2006. It is located in historic Algiers Point, the second oldest settlement in New Orleans. It was built by a lumber yard owner. The walls are 6 inches thick & reinforced diagonally. The 2006 renovation opened the home to one living area upstairs.

What makes this house unique

My home is an economical alternative to the French Quarter, and yet is just a four block walk or drive to the Algiers/Canal Street Car/Passenger Ferry. Historic Algiers Point is a quiet alternative to the fast French Quarter pace, and yet close enough to enjoy the full benefits of the French Quarter and all of New Orleans.

Perfect location!

Tbh we visit regularly and have never been to Algiers Point. What a lovely area. Bruce's house is close to the Ferry and within walking distance of some wonderful cafes and restaurants. We really liked the house. It was very clean, decorated with antiques and has a great gourmet kitchen. We were able to bike nearly everywhere in the neighborhood. We will definitely be back!

Great Place to Stay

6 of us, three couples, rented this place for two nights prior to boarding for our cruise. Was the week end before Mardi Gras, busiest week end of the year in NOLA. We decided on a VRBO as hotel pricing for the week end we were to be in the city were absolute bonkers. Although we still paid a decent price to stay here, we were happy with the pricing, also we were able to split the costs by renting one place as opposed to three separate hotel rooms.

My wife had done the research and selected this place based on the many other positive reviews, we were not disappointed. Although the drive to Algiers Point from the airport lead us through some sketchy looking areas once we crossed the river, Algiers Point was very nice. The house itself is suited perfectly as there is nice common space and the patio was nice to just sit on and wind down with a drink at the end of the night. We used the ferry to cross the river every time, save your ones as it is only $2 each way but use correct change. Took the last ferry home and it was pretty busy so felt safe the whole time, short 5 minute walk from the terminal to the house. It was nice to get away from the craziness of Mardi Gras at the end of the day and be somewhere quite. Only one draw back, which for us was very minor but could be a bigger problem for other guests, was that you had to go through either one of the two rooms to get to the third room. Also want to add that everything with Bruce went very smooth and didn't have any problems with anything.

Beautiful Historical Home in Algiers Point

We had a party of 7 girls for Mardi Gras and a wedding. The home was perfect. Three bedrooms two and a half bathrooms. It was very comfortable with central air/heat , washer/dryer. Perfect neighborhood, near restaurants , coffee shop , local pub, nice friendly people! The ferry was in walking distance (cash only) .

Our vacation was perfect!!

Would definitely rent again!!!

Great Property!

A few blocks from the ferry to the French quarters this house is a perfect stay for a NOLA traveler. Bruce was great, even with the freeze on our first day in, my family had 3 other properties fall through due to the weather, Bruce had extra space available and was very accommodating, will definitely stay here again if I'm ever in NOLA!

Beautiful home across the river

This is a charming and classic double-barrel shotgun home on a nice street very convenient to the ferry. Our children (16- and 12-yrs-old) found the ferry rides across the river that drop you a few blocks from the French Quarter to be among the highlights of the trip. The house itself is completely renovated and decorated with lovely antiques and comfortable beds. There are some fun family board games and an adequately equipped kitchen (although we never found a cutting board). We happened to visit NOLA during an atypical cold snap (20's and 30's F) and our only complaint was that even with bedrooms at the back of the house way overheated, the front of the house was quite cold. Not sure if this could be better adjusted or how this would translate to air conditioning. Also, if you plan to shop for groceries, plan in advance because the grocery store is a bit of a drive by car and the neighborhood has very few food establishments (a couple close by coffee shops and some bad pizza prepared by unfriendly staff). In all we think this was a very comfortable place for a family to spread out. We took day trips by car outside of town and also saw great sights in town. But if you are simply going to NOLA for the French Quarter scene, I would stay in the Quarter since the ferry stops running pretty early.

Excellent choice!

This was a family gathering for Christmas that we do every year with family from Nebraska and New Jersey. First time in New Orleans for all and stayed 11 days. We all raved about the house and the lovely character of the furniture and open living area with many windows that let in plenty of sunlight. Wonderfully furnished with everything needed for cooking. All beds were so comfortable and plenty of towels for all 6 of us. The area is very pleasant and quiet with an excellent pizza place, another cafe next to it and coffee houses close by. The ferry is just 4 blocks away and a pleasant and safe walk.

If staying at least 5 days, download the RTA mobile app and be sure to buy the 5 day integrated pass, which will allow you to ride the ferry, streetcars and buses an unlimited number of times over the 5 days. If the ferry shedule ends too soon for you, we had excellent experiences with UBER.

Overall we had an amazing experience with the trip. Bruce was an exceptional host and we would not hesitate to rent this same house again.

My home is a four (4) block walk or drive to the Algier's Point/Canal Street Ferry. A five minute ferry ride to The base of the French Quarter leaves you by Harrah's Casino, Riverwalk Mall, Canal Mall & Cinema, and a short walk to all of the French Quarter.
