What a lovely spot to stay in for the Mount Gretna art show. Up the hill and in the trees - close enough to walk to everything.and yet so quiet and private when it is time to rest. By someone who lives in a house that is 100 years I very much enjoyed the furnishings. Mount Gretna is a special place. Visit, please.

This cottage is wonderful: from the rustic porch to the funky interior with painted furniture and fabulous antiques, I found it welcoming and comfortable. The host communicated quickly and clearly; she was very accommodating as well. Good, hot shower, well-equipped kitchen, and a nice washer and dryer made it a home away from home. I loved the treehouse like setting and appreciated the whole house AC. The upstairs sitting room was a comfortable retreat. I will be back!

Overall the property was the cozy it is listed as and we enjoyed our stay. We felt the furniture was uncomfortable to sit on in the living room area and because we are spoiled with tempurpedic at home, the beds were uncomfortable for us as well. The cottage was clean and provided us with the ability to cook our meals as necessary. It was within walking distance to The Jigger Shop, The Coffee Cottage, The Playhouse (at night we sat on the wraparound porch & listened to the music), the playground, tennis/basketball courts. So it was a very convenient location. One thing we did not consider were the 2 flights of steps from the street that would need to be utilized for loading & unloading the car. Overall, we would definitely recommend staying at this cottage but to a younger group or family.

Very quaint and quiet property, however it is only a few streets back from the theatre so you do hear the shows in the evening- we did enjoy it though! Also, it might be worth looking into some type of blind or curtain in the TV sunroom upstairs. At night, the street light shines directly on you in the bedroom.

I'm also happy to hear you enjoyed hearing the performances from the playhouse in the evenings—it's one of those uniquely Mount Gretna experiences that many guests enjoy. I'll be updating the listing to mention that the theater can occasionally be heard from the cabin during performances so future guests know what to expect. I also appreciate you pointing out the streetlight in the upstairs TV room, and I'll be looking into adding a window covering there to make that space even more comfortable. Perfect quiet location

We really enjoyed our stay here. This is a great cabin in an amazing setting. This is a vibrant mountain forest and the home felt very private despite the neighbors on both sides. The serenity here was what we wanted. Plenty of room in house though 4 adults would be hard. Nice master bedroom with adjoining sunroom. It was very clean. The temp controls work great. We used the AC on warm days and were never hot then used their fireplace on a chillier morning which was very easy to use.The host is awesome. Best communication I have ever got from a VRBO host including amazing instructions email. Entry into cabin was a breeze. All the appliances worked well and plenty of hot water that was also potable which is a nice bonus in a cottage.If I had one complaint it's the furniture. There's nowhere comfy to sit here except the porch. Antique is nice, but it's not comfortable and my back actually hurt after a night sitting on their couch. You will also need to park down the road a bit and carry stuff up a walking path. House at end of Cul de sac and parking there for resident only, not renter.

Getaway

Stayed here a few years back for the 4th and this year again for the 4th. Always a good time quiet neighborhood. Good for relaxing and close to Hershey park. Will be coming back more often now that my son is a little older!

Mt. Gretna - May 2024

This was our 2nd time staying at The Cottage in the Woods, and it was just as nice as the first time. Staying in Mt. Gretna is magical, and we hope to do it again soon.

This is a cozy cottage high up in the trees. I’ve stayed in Gretna before and have always enjoyed it. This cottage was a bit more remote, which is perfect for peace and serenity. The cottage decor was enjoyable. I think with a few updates and ongoing cleaning and maintenance this cottage would be perfect.

Mr Gretna Cottage

Comfortable, charming, eclectic cottage with welcoming wrap around porch surrounded by tall rhododendrons. Walkable neighborhood. Great place to slow down and reconnect with self and others.

The place was eclectic. Not as clean as I typically like to see. However maybe I just expect it to be zero dust bunnies under the bed so maybe I am just too picky., but it is an older cabin so maybe a bit of dust is to be expected. It is very unique and had various antiques and pictures of NOLA so it was like a treasure hunt. Parking is not ideal but doable. The area was very nice and I would have loved to enjoy some of the trails but was not there for that, so maybe another time. Hosts are very kind and responsive.

As this was our first rental of the season, a significant amount of time and attention went into preparing the property—particularly the outdoor spaces. This included replacing porch cushions, scrubbing floors and walls, and thoroughly cleaning the interior to ensure everything was ready for guests. That said, as a historic cabin in a wooded setting, a certain amount of dust can occasionally settle, even after a detailed cleaning, particularly in less frequently accessed areas, like under a bed. We appreciate your feedback and are glad you enjoyed the uniqueness of the home.

We absolutely adored staying at this adorable cottage. We were looking for an authentic Gretna experience and that’s exactly what we got. From the carefully curated antiques to the peaceful perfection of the wraparound porch, my partner and I got the rest, relaxation, and regeneration we sought out.

Quaint and peaceful - loved the outdoor deck

Our family was looking for a weekend get-a-way as a substitute for our vacation bc of COVID. This place was just the ticket. A great location near a bike path/lake and loved spending time on the wrap-around deck. Thank you, William!

New Roof, Central heat and AC, All carpeting upstairs has been removed and floors sanded and refinished. New Paint both interior and exterior. Trying our best to make the cottage a fun place to get away.
