Ernie has retired from social services and I plan to retire in a year or two. In Sarasota we have A Ray of Sunshine and in Port Charlotte we have Another Ray of Sunshine, so this one is the Third Ray of Sun. We enjoy creating vacation homes where families can enjoy their free time creating fun, happy memories.

Why Linda Ertel or Ernie Ertel chose South Gulf Cove
This is one of our future retirement homes. It is exactly what we were looking for to spend some of our golden years. This house offers a great view of the tip of two intersecting canals. It has a large Jacuzzi tub in the master suite and a large screen TV in the family room. We are in a quiet zone much like a park and have 160 ft. of concrete seawall for a panoramic view of the water. We enjoy renting a boat for 4 hours to explore the beautiful waterways and wildlife in the area.
What makes this House unique
The view of the canals is spectacular from the backyard. The house has a great layout and offers amazing comfort and a happy, peaceful feeling. There is almost two masters on opposite sides of the house with both having sliding glass doors to the pool. The house is almost totally renovated with high quality furnishings, art and kitchen utensils. The backyard bordering the large canal is completely fenced in for the safety of children. The dock has bench seating and allows for great fishing and crabbing. There is even an electric fireplace with hearth and mantle that will create ambience and festivities with or without heat.

Love this house!
We loved our stay. This is the second time we have stayed at this house. It is very comfortable and perfect to share with friends. Great location, close by fishing and shopping. Will definitely stay again.
The house was very nice, clean and comfortable to stay in it exceeded our expectations.
The house was spacious and clean. The beds were amazingly comfortable. Pool area was expansive and we were able to make full use of it. Might be nice to let the next people who rent know what day the pool people come because we were a little surprised when they were in the cage area when we looked out the glass door. Light inside pool was either not working or we were unable to locate the switch. Otherwise, pool was wonderful.
Nice in person than what the pics show online
Beautiful house and location. Very clean and well kept. I rented a boat and the doc is not super great for tieing up a boat. Also for those who choose to bring a boat it a good hour and fifteen boat ride to Boca inlet. Plus there is a tricky lock to get through. Otherwise was great.
Great place! Clean and very quiet. Would recommend!
Very well kept!
Great vacation rental!
We enjoyed our stay at Third Ray of Sun, the owners were very helpful in the rental process and answered all my numerous questions! The House was beautiful and super clean, the bed in the master bedroom is the most comfortable bed I’ve ever slept in! The location is quiet and relaxing, and grocery stores are nearby. Loved the pool and the pool lanai, great views of the canal! It had everything you needed, very well stocked for a vacation rental, beautiful furnishings, artwork, dishes, pans, just wonderful! Can’t say enough good things about this property! Thanks Linda and Ernie for sharing your home with us, we hope to enjoy your home again in the near future!
Thank you for the wonderful review. It is very satisfying to be able to have other families enjoy our sunshine home. We furnished this home in anticipation of our living there after we retire. We are living in a cold northern state that has winters that are a little too long. While I am still working we can only enjoy it through other folks and our dreams. Linda and Ernie
Enjoyed Our Stay in this Very Nice Home
The home was very nice, with plenty of room for a family. Although it was some distance to the ocean, there were nearby restaurants and grocery stores. It had wonderful views of the canals in the backyard from the screened and partially covered pool/patio area. The kitchen was well appointed with most everything you need. The home was very clean and the beds and furniture were very comfortable. The owners were easy to work with and their local representative was prompt in returning my call regarding the pool temperature.
For a winter vacation this home is definitely 5-Stars. The only reason I gave it 4 stars is that for a July vacation, the pool was so warm that it was unusable. The owners' representative said that the solar panel water heating was not designed to be turned off during the summer, so between the direct summer Florida sun and the solar heating, the pool was around 90 degrees.
Thank you for the review! We talked to our pool service and found that the solor heater is keep on to circulate the water on the roof but we keep it set at 70 degrees in the summer and the electrical heater is also set low in the summer. You were there during a heat wave and the sun during the day is the reason the temp in the pool is so high. The night temp was still high so the only way to keep the pool cooler is to keep the pool blanket on during the day when the sun is out. Most people want the temp. in the upper 80ies. South Gulf Cove is a true waterfront community. Bring your boat or rent one near by for exploring the canals, Myakka River, Port Charlotte Harbor and the Gulf of Mexico. The community has over 55 miles of navigable canals. All canals flow into the Interceptor Lagoon, which can be described as a large lake offering access to the Gulf. The canal and Lagoon systems offer pristine shorelines, many of which are designated as State preserve land. South Gulf Cove water depths range from 6-9 feet and bridge clearance is roughly 10 feet. All waterways in the community maintain consistent depts. because of lock system controlling water flow, to and from the Myakka River. The South Gulf Cove lock system has been recently updated to feature remote control operation and boats can pass through in as little as 7 minutes. There is a County owned boat ramp within the community that gives access to the waterways. RV and boat parking is allowed at the home. Our Third Ray of Sun is located in a Nature Preserve giving you a change to observe some of the old world Florida that you will not see close to the big cities.
