About Liza Piorkowski
Hello let me introduce ourselves. My name is Liza and my husband is Miguel, and we are the owners of the Secret Beach Villas since 1997. We got in to the Villa Rental Business quite by accident. We had traveled to Playa del Carmen on a few occasions for vacations. One trip while doing some exploring we decided to check out a road we saw off the main highway. To make a long story short, we found Playa del Secreto, fell in love with it, we bought a villa and decided to rent out when we weren’t using it. We moved from the cold of Metro Detroit in 1999 to live full-time in the warmth of the tropics. Miguel is a professional Chef and cooks for our guest if requested. He has several years of management experience with Club Med - he speaks French, English, Spanish and Italian. Miguel is a Mexican native whom lived in the States for years, he is a real people person (which sorry to say I am not, I’m the computer Geek.) He enjoys fishing and is a real Foodie, we take a lot of Culinary vacations. He is on Facebook and you can read his Passion for food I owned an Engineering Consulting company in Metro Detroit that specialized in the statically analysis of automotive Camshafts and Crankshafts for the big 3. I traveled all over the world crunching numbers for the big 3 auto companies. Check out my Blog “Getting it Done” in the Mayan Riviera… Life, Work and all the Guest Luggage!!!

Fabulous house, location and hosts!
I'd highly recommend this property! Our group was in the area for a wedding, and stayed for nine nights. The house is very comfortable and had everything we needed. Liza and Miguel have thought through all the details (USB chargers just where you needed them, lots of beach towels, plastic dishes for taking out to the pool--the list goes on and on!). The unlimited drinking water was super convenient (not something I've ever found in other rentals). The daily housekeeping was a luxury. The beach and pool were beautiful and nicely maintained. We ordered dinner in two nights, and it was hands-down the best food we had during our trip! So delicious and easy. Laundry in the house was convenient. WiFi was fast and stable (I was worried about this since I needed to work from the road, but had no issues at all). The location is close to Cancun airport and all the sites (we went to Chichen Itza, Tulum, Rio Lagartos, Las Coloradas, Paamul and more). Liza, Miguel and Beto were super responsive and friendly--anything we needed, they were on it. I'd definitely stay again!!
We had the best time at Secret Beach Shell Villa! It is a beautiful home! The was plenty of space for our family of 9 and having the pool and the beach right out the door was so wonderful. Liza and Miguel were so helpful and the options they give regarding transportation options and food options make everything so easy!! The dinners we had at the villa thru them were delicious. We can't wait to be back.
Beautiful villa, great location
Our group of 7 thoroughly enjoyed our visit. The Shell Villa is very large, comfortable, and nicely furnished. It is in a gated community and the property is also gated, so we felt very safe. Liza, Miguel, Beto, and the rest of the staff took great care of us. We asked them to provide our dinner three nights and all the meals were great! The surf and turf was our favorite. All meals come with a pitcher of drinks of your choice, appetizers, main course, and dessert. We used their grill to cook our own meals two other nights. Overall, it was a great experience and we highly recommend it.
We loved having your crew of friends here - hope to see you again! We give all repeat guest a discount!
Perfect family vacations
For years we have been vacationing in the Riviera Maya in many areas from Cancun to Akumal and the Secret Beach Villas is by far the most rewarding and comfortable of all. On this ocassion we were a party of 10 traveling with our very young grandkids. The villa is spacious with five rooms and well furnished with full of amenities, strategically located close to a lot of available tourist attractions. We saw the magnificent Cirque Du Soleil show "Joya" just 10 minutes driving. The beach is constantly cleaned of sargasso by the personnel. Neighbours are few and friendly. The beach area is beautifull and quiet. The distan sound of the waves hitting the beach is perfect to sleep. The food service is great with plenty of variety dishes. Excellent, efficient and fast cleaning service by a team of very trustworthy maids. Liza and Miguel are the best hosts who took care of all our needs from the moment we reserved until we left. Great value for the money. Definitively our perfect vacations. We will return.
Great house for a relaxing family trip
Overall we enjoyed our stay! We were a group of 5 adults and 4 kids (all ages 4 and under.)
- easy, safe, quiet location
- daily staff to clean the house/pool (great with groups!)
- spacious house and mostly en-suite rooms
- food was good and easy--you can order in meals that are left for you to eat without worrying about cooking. Generous portions so you'll likely have leftovers for lunch!
- nice to have pool and ocean right outside your door, and some beach toys available for the kids
- very accommodating and nice owners (and staff too!)
-pack n plays and high chairs available if needed
-nice to have some groceries stocked upon arrival with a fee (but do specify quantity or else you may end up with 10 boxes of milk, which was a lot more than we needed!)
A few downsides:
- seaweed on beach is back and difficult to control (general issue and not exclusive to this place, but we were told it was gone when we booked)
- advertised as family friendly but then the house had super breakable sea shells that house instructions said were not to be moved and they were kept on low shelves! Little kids had to be watched carefully around the glass coffee tables
--charged for "extra guest" for a 7 month old baby. We were told it was due to extra water/baths. The house had no bath tub to bathe a child or anyone. Babies that age don't really drink water. So we're still unclear on why they insisted on the extra fee.. Also VRBO's listing says no fees til more than 10 guests and we were a group of 9, even counting our two babies. In reality it appears they charge an extra fee for more than 8 guests. I'd recommend no extra fee for a baby!
--It was a bit difficult to book but that may have been VRBO's system. We inquired about the house and the house's price was subsequently lowered when we actually wanted to book, and they kept trying to charge us the higher fee. The owners ultimately honored the lower pricing but it took several emails to get it sorted. I think this was a VRBO backend issue but it was annoying!
--internet--House advertises wireless internet, which works just fine, but internet use is restricted and instructions at house say you can't stream, which was a bit problematic for members of our group who had work calls involving skype, etc. This should be noted in the VRBO listing up front.
Overall it was a great stay and 'we'd just suggest those tweaks to make it even better! Thanks, Liza and Miguel!
Secret Beach Shell Villa
Booking was painless through VRBO & HomeAway. Arranged the airport return transfer through Liza. My family group of six adults & 4 children under 10 years old were met @ the Cancun airport by the driver from Cancun Cheap Transfers. He was courteous & a very safe driver. The vehicle was a newer model & it held all our passengers & luggage with ease. We made a pre-arranged stop in Puerto Morelos for some supplies. Miguel met us @ the Shell Villa on our arrival. He spoke very good english & walked us through the large home. He provided us with WiFi password, keys & safe access for our valuables. We enjoyed the Welcome dinner on our first evening which we had booked. We had the steak dinner on our last night & it was also delicious. Both were good value for the money. The air conditioning worked well. The Villa has its own pool & is on a beautiful stretch of beach. The ocean was inviting & we spent many hours playing. There are no beach vendors & with gated access to the homes & resorts in this area, the area is very safe. We walked along the beach many times looking for treasures. From a housekeeping perspective, the Villa staff clean inside & outside daily during the week. They are courteous & quick to smile but not intrusive. We rented a car through Liza. It was delivered as promised & in good condition. We used it to replenish our goods during the week. We took one day trip to Xel-Ha with Cancun Cheap Transfers. We booked the water park online & phoned for transportation a couple of days before going. It was a great experience. Liza & Miguel were quick to respond to any email questions. They were very attentive & we appreciated their eagerness to make this a memorable vacation. Drinking water was replenished as required, we never ran out. A few negatives, the water pressure on the upper level is on the low side. It was explained that the limestone caused deposits in the piping which restricts water flow. We had enough to suit our needs & I didn't contact Miguel or Liza about this. The pool was a bit cloudy & I spoke to Miguel about this early in the week. The water cleared up to an acceptable clarity later in the week. There was ample chlorine in the water. Miguel explained that the previous guests had used a ton of sun block which affected the water quality. I recommend a better pool filtration system or more circulation. Overall a wonderful family holiday that we'll remember fondly.
Golf: The Mayan Riviera is the fast becoming a world renowned golf destination. Some of the top golf course designers such as Greg Norman and Jack Nicklaus have brought their resources to Mexico and have built some remarkable golf courses; both the PGA and the Canadian PGA both have annual tournaments here. The Secret Beach Villa are as close as Five to Twenty-Five minutes from these championship courses.
