About the property

Studio, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 3)

Get out of the fog and into the sun. Enjoy the year-round mild climate and central location of San Rafael, with effortless access to San Francisco to the south (thirty minutes across the world famous Golden Gate Bridge), the spectacular wine country of Napa, Sonoma, and Alexander Valleys (forty minutes), and Berkeley (thirty minutes).

Easy access in and out of San Francisco by ferry, bus or car. Enjoy a full day in 'The City' and recharge your batteries (with a good night sleep and a soak in the hot tub) for a day of wine tasting in the Napa Valley.

Our home is located in a quiet, upscale neighborhood. 18 steps lead to this attached in-law unit, which features many amenities and unique privacy. Another 12 steps to a semi-private swimming pool, hot tub, and deck, featuring nearly three-hundred-sixty-degree views of the Bay and Mt. Tamalpais. Less than fifty yards away is a hiking trail in a eucalyptus forest, with views of San Francisco in the distance.

Marin County offers beaches, golf, hiking, and biking. (Mountain biking was 'invented' on Mt. Tam.) Local scenery includes breathtaking vistas of Mount Tam, and the ancient redwood forests of Muir Woods, sightseeing in Sausalito and Tiburon, and much more. It features restaurants to fit every budget and culinary taste, as well as, excellent theatre, cinema, and shopping.

San Rafael, home of the 2nd most northern and oldest Catholic mission (founded 1817), also features a civic center designed by Frank Lloyd Wright and a refurbished art deco theater in a revitalized downtown.

Your genial and knowledgeable host and hostess will help with plans (if requested) to make your vacation memorable.

A perfect base from which to savor the best of Northern California!

We love this place! Quiet location and beautiful view.

This is our second time staying at Mark and Judi's and we truly enjoyed it. We were here for 10 days of training and took full advantage of the nicely stocked kitchen for cooking. We were pleasantly surprised to find baked goods and a bottle of wine waiting for us, when we arrived. The view is incredible and made it easier to get out of bed every morning. We will definitely be back and highly recommend this property.

This was our third stay at the house on the hill as my husband likes to call it. Mark and Judi are very welcoming. Will look forward to returning. Bread and wine were a great treat!

We were very comfortable! The cottage met and exceded our expectations. It is a spacious place that also includes outside space with beautiful views and a very nice place to jog or walk with more views.

The apartment was clean, quiet, and comfortable.

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at Mark and Judi's for 10 nights. The apartment gets lots of natural light and the view was beautiful. We did a lot of cooking during our stay and the kitchen was fully stocked with everything we needed. Mark and Judi left us a bottle of wine, which was very thoughtful, and we found homemade banana bread hanging on our door one evening. We definitely recommend staying here and we already have it booked for the next time we are in San Rafael!

Wonderful stay in San Rafael

  • 5 of 5

We spent 16 days in this comfortable, clean and full stocked studio wich is carefully decorated. In the kitchen you find all that you need for cooking or baking. The area is quite there - good for relaxing and enjoying the view from the deck outside with a great view or swiming in the pool.

Mark and Judy was very kindly and helpful to us. Using their washing machine and the dryer was no problem. Judy baked a very good tasting pumpkin bread for us...yammi.

We started for a few trips from here...Yosemite is not so far from here and to San Francisco we took the ferry. The parking lot at the ferry terminal plus ferry is not cheaper than a parking lot in the city near the piers but easier and no stress and more eventful.

We recommend this studio. Thanks to Mark and Judy for their hospitality.

Hilltop Paradise

  • 5 of 5

Our little family enjoyed this studio immensely. Waking up to stunning sunrises over the hills and enjoying quiet beauty by the hot tub at night. The room is a very good size with comfortable beds and just the right amount of space to be cozy but not cramped. Our hosts were available to us when we needed but never seen when we didn’t. It’s not an easy place to find but winding our way up the hill each time offered some fun historic house watching. Kitchen is nicely stocked and the water is wonderfully hot in the shower. What else do you need?!?
