My wife and I had a wonderful time visiting family and we loved staying at Almonte. Host was most helpful and place was clean and convienent. Very comfortable bed. Looking forward to a return visit. .

A Great Home Away From Home!

Great location and great cabin, we found everything you could possibly need and more. Truly enjoyed staying there and after our day trips to San Francisco we where happy to get back 'Home' to a nice and normal neighborhood. the rates are also very reasonable and the homey feeling we got beets any hotel.

Wonderful Stay

The cottage was perfect … quiet, peaceful, ample amenities, and convenient to town and area attractions. The accommodations were very comfortable, and our host Rusty offered helpful tips and was very responsive to questions. Overall, an excellent value. We would definitely like to stay again during our next visit to Mill Valley.

Solitude and quietness

Waking to the soft chewing of the deer munching on grass - but otherwise sooo quiet and the BEST bed. Very central to everything - Wild walks, restaurants, fantastic cottage.

Perfect little “treehouse” for our family vacation!

Beautiful spot in the forest! The house had a great view of the trees and we loved all the fresh air. The inside was cozy and the office was a nice extra room to have! Everything was very clean. We would definitely stay here again.

Treehouse feel with lovely accommodations

Beautiful large cottage! Really comfortable. Location above the carport puts you high up in the trees close to nature. Quiet, restful and clean.

Terrific place!

Just the right size for the two of us and well located and maintained, Rusty's cottage was an excellent base for our exploration of Muir Woods and forays into the city. Rusty communicated well with us before and during the stay and ensured that all of our questions were answered and all needs were met. We look forward to a return visit!.

A San Francisco Retreat

My husband and I were looking for a relaxing getaway with ease of access to San Francisco. Could not have asked for a more perfect location - easy travel by car AND ferry - and away from the downtown chaos. The treehouse was peaceful and perfect to R&R before and after running around the city. Hosts were awesome and super responsive, making the trip that much more enjoyable.

Comfortable property in an excellent location

Mill Valley is a lovely location and this is a lovely property to stay in. There are lots of walking routes and other things to do, plenty of places to eat and a good supermarket nearby. Sausalito and the Golden Gate Bridge are close by too. Rusty was always available if we needed anything. We stayed for 4 nights but if we come back again we may stay for longer than that,

Pleasant mill valley getaway

The cabin was a lovely small apartment in a charming quintessentially Californian neighborhood. Some highlights were a nice big shower with great water action, and a very comfortable bed. Rusty was attentive. Highly recommend for couples.

In the redwoods!

This was our second stay at Rusty’s Mill Valley cottage…we especially love that it is up a flight of stairs, so feel safe leaving windows open! It’s a very comfy place, bright living area and very comfortable bed. Full kitchen and laundry add to the beauty! We enjoyed morning coffee and a bagel before setting out each day.

Nirvana!

Perfect for my husband and I. Cozy, comfortable cottage perfectly nestled in nature. Well equipped to easily settle in and Rusty was on point with keeping in touch with us to communicate details for our stay. Convenient location to everything! This was our first time staying here, but it sure won’t be our last as our son and DIL live just a short 10 minute drive from the cottage.

Great place, great location!

We had a lovely stay in Rusty’s Cottage. It had everything we needed and more! It is in a perfect location to see the sights of San Francisco, Napa Valley, Muir Woods, Golden Gate and everywhere in-between! There is good shopping close by as well as a great range of cafes and restaurants. The cottage is in a peaceful location and we were delighted to see the deer in the garden behind the cottage most mornings. Should we return to San Francisco we would have no hesitation in booking with Rusty again.

Exceeded expectations!

This cottage was lovely, perfectly situated among the redwoods and a nice walk to downtown Mill Valley. Rusty was very responsive and let me check in early. It’s way cuter in person than in the pictures. Highly recommend!

Lovely cottage

I loved my stay at this comfortable, quiet, private cottage. It was a perfect location close to stores, restaurants and the sights I wanted to see. There were even two deer who hung out under the trees outside the carport. I appreciated the kitchen which was equipped with everything I needed. Once I needed to contact the host about something and she responded immediately. I would definitely stay here again.

Relaxing and Restorative Nest

Rusty's lovely place was so good to sink into after hiking the hills and beaches. Also restorative, as I needed a comfortable and clean place to unwind from a stressful trip and memorial event for my sweet mom. My week here was exactly what I needed, with all necessary accoutrements to make the stay enjoyable. Thank you, Rusty---for your personal touches and help!

Meditative experince in beautiful location

I stayed 3 nights in this gem in Mill Valley CA. Great location near hiking trails restaurants and SF city. Property was super clean everything was high quality and you could not ask more friendlier and attentive host. I got separate notification to check in early, because my flight was in the morning. 6/5 starts from me.

My family has been in the Bay Area for generations and survived the San Francisco earthquake in 1906. My grandmother owned a cottage on Mt. Tamalpais in the 1920's. My father helped put up some of the original hiking trail signs on the mountain. I came back to Mill Valley when I was working as a CNN correspondent in San Francisco. I've traveled all over the world and Mill Valley is one of the most wonderful spots on earth.

Mill Valley is so close to one of the world's great cities, has numerous great restaurants and charm, yet it's minutes to be on hiking trails with gorgeous views and no one around. Trips to the wine country in Napa and Sonoma Valleys are 40 minutes away. This is the cottage on the property of my main house but is separated by trees, stairs and a deck. Because there are two redwoods just feet from the windows and small deck, you feel like you are in a tree-house. But there are many windows and LOTS of light. It feels very private yet, so close to everything by walking or by car.

There is also a small spa walking distance down the hill where you can get a massage.

Mill Valley has a film festival every October featuring international filmakers and their work. There are also a number of small coffee houses,art galleries and boutiques in town. For entertainment, the Throckmorton Theater has a variety of music, plays, and comedy. Also Sweetwater is a club which features a variety of musical acts. Nearby is the Green Gulch Farm, a Buddhist retreat featuring classes and organic produce.

Sausalito is only a couple miles away and you can walk or drive to this charming town right on San Francisco Bay which is very European in feel. There is also a great art festival there every September.

There are several state and federal recreation areas for hikers and bikers within ten miles of Mill Valley. Not only is there Muir Woods, with it's gorgeous huge redwoods, but Mt. Tamalpais where some of the first mountain bikes were designed to ride on the fire trails. Stinson Beach and Muir Beach are both quaint beach towns just over the hill from Mill Valley.

I fell in love with the property because it was SO close to where I worked in San Francisco, yet I felt like I was miles away from the rest of the world. The cottage is very private and quiet with soaring redwoods outside, yet lots of windows make it very light and cheery.
