We had a relaxing week in this special Mushroom House. It's well equipped and just right for 2 adults. You can walk down to the beach and into town easily. It's a great location and a quiet neighborhood.

So glad you enjoyed your stay. A little know fact about the homes that Earl Young built: he was not a tall man and built many of his homes with shorter ceilings than what was usual in order to make himself taller in stature. Now you have experienced this aspect from the other end.
Please join us again in the future.
This is our third week long stay and Betide is still charming us. Great location within walking distance to beach, restaurants and shopping. The neighborhood is quiet and the kitchen well equipped. The master bedroom is roomy with a comfortable king bed. We can catch glimpses of Lake Michigan through the trees from the shaded front yard. Love this quirky little mushroom house.
Perfect place for our group of 3. Spotlessly clean and super charming. Small but super comfortable with plenty of room to sleep, laze about, eat, and cook. The location is fantastic and if you are a fan of Earl Young architecture, this is a great example, nestled between other Earl Young gems. I really can't say enough about this place. It's amazing! I really hope we can stay here again sometime.

Kevin was a joy to host. He communicated well with me and took advantage of all our location has to offer. Charlevoix is a gem in out state and we would love to host him again.
The kitchen was small but lovely. The hallway light had burnt out and a strip of lights in the kitchen. Didn't love the decor. Not really in keeping with the historic nature of the property but was glad to experience a Earl Young Mushroom House. .

So glad you got to share our little slice of Charlevoix. The Earl Young homes are unique is so many ways.
Cute little place and inside clean but we were welcomed by 2 dirty broken chairs outside which we fixed and cleaned. Not a great welcome BUT the setting is awesome:2 minute walk to beach and 20 minute walk to downtown,

Glad you enjoyed your stay. And even happier that you fixed the chairs. Thank you for being part of our extended family.
Very homey, charming and cozy! Comfortable sleeping. Enjoyed the closeness of Lake Michigan. Restaurants were close by. Loved the accessable kitchen with the provided amenities. Had a few items that needed to be addressed and the owner was amazing, response and quick fixes. Thank you so much!

Im so glad you enjoyed our home. It takes a team to keep things in working order. You are part of our team. We hope you will visit again.
This is our second stay at Betide mushroom house. Easy walk to beach, shops and restaurants. Fully equipped kitchen for the days we stayed in. Perfect for the 2 of us. We plan to return!
Really enjoyed our week in Charlevoix. The location was top and the cottage was superb and very comfortable for two people. The only thing that was missed was a cutting board and serrated knife for bread, tomatoes etc. We would definitely stay again!!

We are so glad you enjoyed your stay. We are always open to upgrades and suggestions. We provide contact information so that our guests can get in touch during the stay. When feasible and possible, I am happy to oblige. I will indeed add the knife. Cutting board is already there! Too many small places to look. Please consider staying again in the future.
Lovely cottage with a bit of interesting history. Perfectly situated within walking distance of most everything. Quiet at night for restful sleep. Kitchen equipped too!

We are so glad you enjoyed our slice of Charlevoix history. Quirky as it may be. Please come back for another stay
We had long wanted to stay in one of the Mushroom Houses. Our stay was perfect. Excellent experience staying the home with all the creativity and history.
The location overlooking Lake Michigan was great. Only a few blocks from Downtown Charlevoix. A quick walk for an excellent breakfast each morning and some shopping. Fall Colors were great. Enjoyed the Tunnel of Trees.
This wasourI first time staying at Betide cottage and it was wonderful. The house is a piece of history, as an Earl Young cottage, but it is also comfortable with everything you need. It's proximity to downtown makes shopping and dining a quick walk away and it is so close to the beach, you can hear the waves. I look forward to another visit in this "mushroom" house soon.

Your comments are just what we like to hear and what we love about the house and its location. We hope you will come back for a visit in the future.
Listing is completely accurate. House is small and older, but spotless, updated and wonderful! Lake Michigan views from the porch. Easy walking distance to shops, restaurants, even a grocery store. Absolutely perfect for a couple. Might be a bit crowded with kids. Excellent value. Would definitely stay again.

Sharing our historic home with renters like yourself is our goal. We are so glad it met your needs. Please come back for a visit.
We truly enjoyed staying in this historical home. The location was perfect, the gas fireplace was wonderful, and the Pez collection was amazing.
The home has everything you need and was very comfortable. The home shows better in person than the Vrbo photographs!!
We contacted the host to figure out how to get the gas fireplace started (it was an unusually cold week) and she responded immediately and made arrangements for her handyman to get it going. Super service!!
We will definitely stay here again!
The house is perfect for two with the option of hosting a couple guests for dinner and games at the dining table. We appreciated the use of one of the bikes on site for easy rides around town and out to the Boulders. From Betide it was a pleasant walk to the beach for evening sunsets and daytime picnics. We walked into town for meals, but also took advantage of the local fishery, farmers' market, and grocery store. Excellent!

We are so thrilled that you enjoyed your stay and all of the reasons we too love the house. Please come visit again.
We enjoyed our time at this most unique place in Charlevoix. It's cozy, but well-equipped. The kitchen is small, but has a great range for cooking. Bedroom is large and comfortable. Very convenient to public beach, south (or west) pier, and town. Be prepared to be a bit "on display", though. There are Mushroom House tours that pass by (and stop and look) multiple times per day. It just comes with this unique property.

We are so happy to share our unique bit of Charlevoix with those who wish to stay. Each of the Earl Young homes has much charm. The mushroom tours are another way to share our bit of history. With each guest, we are grateful for their suggestions to continue to make our home a more wonderful place to stay.
We are so grateful that we were able to spend time in the 'Betide' mushroom house. The interior is just beautiful with the original wood floors, ceiling and stone fireplace and the recent updates to the kitchen and bath. We had everything we needed in the kitchen to prepare meals. It is located just a few blocks from downtown Charlevoix and across the street from Lake Michigan. Thank you Debra for sharing your home and a piece of history with others.

Our goal is to share the beauty and uniqueness of our house. We are so glad you enjoyed it and hope you will visit again.
We loved our stay at this house. It worked really well for the two of us. Great location. Everything we needed was supplied. Easy checking and out.
One suggestion would be to declutter the door of the refrig and one shelf in the kitchen cabinet to allow for visitors food items. Otherwise everything was wonderful and we hope to return in the future. Thanks!

Kathy and William's stay
The stay at the house was wonderful. The cottage is beautiful, the landscaping and the setting, a dream. It is close to downtown (two very relaxing blocks where you get to walk by some more beautiful landscaped homes). Also, it’s right above Lake Michigan, so ever a shorter walk gets you to the big beach and/or the channel from Lake Charlevoix to the bigger lake. The kitchen and bathroom are great: nice tile and modern, luxury amenities. We’d recommend this for any couple by themselves for a romantic getaway, or a small family. Owners were easy to deal with and even let us pay a half-day rate for a later check out.

About the host
Hosted by Debbie Singer
Our family has been coming to Charlevoix for the past 40 years as campers and for the last 35 as home owners. We vacation year round and have enjoyed discovering all of the wonderful sites in Northern Michigan.
Why they chose this property
Earl Young is the defining architect in this area. The opportunity to own one of his homes presented a wonderful vacation destination.
What makes this property unique
1 block from Lake Michigan Beach. 3 blocks from town. Park the car and forget it while on vacation. Watch the sunsets from the adrirondack chairs on the porch.
