Amberjack at The Truman Annex in Key West

Recently refurbished throughout in a fun, tropical theme, Amberjack is situated on Southard Street in the exclusive gated community of Truman Annex, very near Harry Truman’s Little White House and right in the heart of Old Town Key West; a great spot to watch the October Fantasy Fest Parade as it weaves its way past the front door. Amberjack is within easy walking distance of Mallory Dock, where the sunset is celebrated everyday: Duval Street with its shops, restaurants and entertainments, and Fort Zachary Beach where there is a beachside café and awesome snorkelling. In less than a 2 minute walk there is a deli/convenience store, Coffee Tea Café, Green Parrot Bar and Eaton Bikes where you can hire bikes daily or weekly at a reasonable rate. If cycling is not for you and you don’t want to hire a car, Pirate Scooters (located opposite the Green Parrot Bar) will hire you an electric car. The property does have an allocated off street parking space. Amberjack provides everything for a relaxing vacation. Fully air conditioned throughout with ceiling fans in all rooms. Downstairs there is a large living/dining/kitchen area and a half bathroom. The living area boasts a Cozy sofa that opens in to a luxurious queen bed with a ceiling fan above, two further comfy chairs, a Flatscreen TV/DVD, CD stereo, I Pod docking station and Wi Fi Broadband. There is a fully equipped kitchen and a dining table that seats four with two comfortable stools at the kitchen bar. The patio is furnished with table, chairs, parasol and electric grill; perfect for Al Fresco dining on a balmy Key West evening. Outdoor Grill. The shared pool is just 25 footfalls from the patio gate. Upstairs you will find the laundry area, with stackable washer/dryer, and two bedrooms, one queen and one twin (that can be easily converted in to a king) both with en suite bathrooms, TV’s and balconies with tables and chairs.

Perfect Location in the Beautiful Truman Annex

Perfect location, beautiful grounds, very comfortable with all supplies included. Could use a bit of updating, but overall a very pleasant stay in Old Town Key West.

Perfect location

Had a wonderful 10 nights in Key West at Amberjack. Close to Duval street and a short walk to Mallory Square to walk to to watch the sunsets! Will definitely be back.

I was somewhat dissatisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: This two-bedroom townhouse is centrally located, walking distance to almost anything you'd want to do, including a shared pool just a few steps away. It was clean and well stocked. On the negative side, the office to get the key is too far away to walk while dragging luggage, and the communications on check in came from a different email address than all the others, which was confusing. Then we had to download an app to get checkout instructions. The office is closed on the weekend which was a problem as the doors to the terrace were stuck shut and many of the kitchen cabinet doors were close to falling off. I would stay there again, but would take a small toolkit!

Very Clean

We love to stay in the Truman Annex and the Amberjack townhouse's layout is ideal for two couples or a family. The unit was VERY clean and the furnishings are nice. The fixtures are dated and could, maybe should, be updated. The only complaint we have is that the traffic, morning and night, on Southard Street is very noisy and will affect those sleeping in the upstairs front bedroom.

Time for a refresh!

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: It is time for a re-fresh of this unit. Most everything is original. There are some major and minor maintenance issues. One of the major issues is wood rot around the door and windows in the back bedroom.One of the minor issues is the cabinet door below the kitchen sink almost falling off.The front bedroom is especially noisy with foot and vehicle noise on Southard. The front bedroom door to the porch door does not close tightly which allows some of the noise in. Replacing the doors and windows with new hurricane doors and windows would help some. The front bed itself isn't the most comfortable and should be replaced.The stair carpeting is worn and your bare feet will show dirt from walking on them. The unit itself is a very nice but being over 30 years old, it is showing it's age and needs to be updated.

Reviewer Comments: We’ve stayed in several townhouses in the same price point and general location, unfortunately this one was the smallest and most in need of updating as well as some basic maintenance. If you’re looking for something a little more quiet, this is not the rental for you. Being at the entrance sounds like a great idea, but it is very noisy early in the morning with numerous garbage and work trucks rolling in and out.The cleaning staff did a great job and as always Compass Realty makes the whole process easy.

Great location!

The property was very nice and very well located. We didn't even rent a car, there is a nice bike rental place 50 meters from the front door. Easy ride/walk to the beach. Easy walk to Duvall (the main drag). Much has been made about the A/C. I understand the frustration but with ceiling fans, 75 was very enjoyable the whole week. My family highly recommends this house and world definitely stay here again.

Air conditioning needs repair. Toddler size toilets.

Nice property, excellent location, needs some upgrades. I will not go into the good as you can see that on the property listing. What you wont see is this taken from the Compass property management welcome letter paragraph 4 {Please keep the AC above 74: otherwise, you will freeze the system, you will become warm, you will get cranky, you will call our office, you will wait for the service tech and you will be charged for a service call to repair it, no exceptions.} This is not normal. I have lived in Florida over 40 years and purchased and repaired a large hand full of air conditioners. The AC unit in this rental needs repair to the condenser to stop the freezing issue. The result of not repairing the AC is that the property will feel very damp, and uncomfortable. This will also eventually lead to mold and other issues. The proper way to handle this issue would be to properly service and repair the AC, not to threaten guests against using the AC. We ended up making the best of our slightly cool and sticky rental with hope that future guests will not have to deal with this problem. Also please replace the child size toilets

The front bedroom is quite noisy, between the road noise and roosters. I recommend ear plugs or noise cancelling headphones. The location is phenomenal! Very close to Duval street, beaches, and restaurants. The house was spotless. There were a couple of very minor maintenance issues that were so minor I forgot to report. I highly recommend this house.

Neighboring networks okay.Proposed network fix not reliable, no service upstairs. Needed internet for working vacation. Rocking chair we loved on front porch, now a mess on back deck. Area around air conditioning vent in bedroom a mess. Would recommend this property when it gets it’s act together.

We were disappointed with Amberjack. The biggest disappointment was cleanliness, specifically the floors. We did not feel comfortable not wearing shoes either in the house or on the outdoor patios. The patio's were totally disappointing. We had to clean all of the front patio furniture before using. The outdoor patio tiles were so dirty that there was no way to enjoy being outside without shoes. We own a rental in northern Michigan and the cleanliness of the outside is crucial. Our customers come to be outdoors not indoors. It should be no different in Florida. Also the knives in the kitchen. They were all so dull that I could not cut an apple...sounds trite but at the price we are paying we should have half way decent knives.
