About the property

Eco-Chic water front home

We offer an 'Eco-Friendly', solar powered waterfront property looking out over the Caribbean Sea with a beautiful dock and roof top sky deck. It is a private, authentic, Caribbean style "home," that is not located within a shared Townhouse/Condominium-type complex. It is away from it all in the exclusive South Point residential neighborhood. This is an actual "home" that we happily offer as a true Vacation Rental By Owner for others to enjoy. There are large wrap-around Verandas with hammocks and seating, providing some of the most amazing views and breezes you will experience anywhere on the island. There is beautiful, natural Mahogany wood craftsmanship throughout the home. The roof-top sky-deck offers amazing panoramic views of the entire island, Caribbean Sea and the Barrier Reef. It is located at the South Point of Caye Caulker approximately 1 mile from the Village where you will find the restaurants, grocery stores and shops. This property offers a truly peaceful tropical island getaway. The seaside path to the home is very scenic and fun for bikes, golf cart rentals and golf cart taxi rides. Two (2) bikes are included with your stay.

Locally guided tours by sea and shore...

Enjoy everything Belize has to offer from Caye Caulker. All your adventures to the mainland are just a short water taxi ride away. Or, choose from our many locally guided tours that will also bring you to the mainland to explore by Sea or Shore. They are absolutely fantastic and will pick you up by boat and drop you off at your private dock for your convenience.

Please note: Here in Central America there are bugs, geckos, iguanas etc. Please be prepared for the bugs, and the sun. Nothing ruins a vacation like bug bites and sunburn. We are "off grid" and therefore we do not have A/C, but we do have ceiling fans, floor fans and natural sea breezes that make the home quite comfortable. Conservation of water and electricity is an important part of "living Green" while you enjoy staying at our home.

Guests are supplied with a 5 gallon water bottle for drinking.

Our property manager will arrange for a golf cart taxi ($ fee not included) to meet you and transport you to the Villa where she will greet you and check you in.

About James

We are a happily married couple enjoying our 50's.

We love to travel, and enjoy many sports from the snowy mountains to the sandy seashores.

James purchased this villa in 2013

Why James chose Belize District

It has always been a dream for my wife and I to own a home in the Caribbean. We were fortunate enough to have our dream come true. With such a truly beautiful home we felt it would be nice to make it available and share it with others. An ocean, bird and star gazers delight.

What makes this villa unique

Amazing Roof-Top sky-deck offering spectacular views of the island, the Caribbean Sea and the Barrier Reef and the Night Sky. And, your own dock steps away from the house. It is a truly peaceful and quiet location with the most scenic jungle path leading up to the home. Several of the snorkel & fishing tour guides will pick our guests up by boat right at our dock for your convenience. Walk, bike or golf cart around the approximately 2 1/2 mile long island with no automobiles. This is the "Go Slow" island.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We had an amazing time in Caye Caulker and Casita Bella Vida. Beautiful and small island with fun locals and just enough tourism to feel like a Vacation. We will be coming back again so instead of Goodbye --- We'll see you later!

A Slice of Paradise

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I stayed at this property for a week over Thanksgiving. We LOVED it. Here are some highlights:

1. Gorgeous, well-kept property with plenty of indoor and outdoor space--The indoor space includes a bright upstairs made of wood and vaulted ceilings. There is a large kitchen and dining area, as well as a sitting area with iPod doc, stereo, books, etc. The bedroom is spacious and includes plenty of storage space. The floor plan is open and the atmosphere is bright...lots of windows and nice views. The wrap-around deck surrounding the upper level is stunning...excellent views and comfy hammocks were a highlight of our trip. The downstairs is newly renovated and very well-done. It also has high ceilings and feels very bright. The two areas together would make an excellent arrangement for a family with older children or two couples looking to get away. Also, we did not experience any issues with bugs inside the property (there are lots of sand flies in this climate). The owners have gone to great lengths to ensure that all windows are well covered with special screens that keep out the tiniest of bugs (hard to find at other properties on Caye Caulker). There is a sliding door to the deck on the upper property, but we only used the main (front) door to insure better protection from the bugs.

2. Location--The house is on the south end of the island surrounded by lots of trees and ridiculously awesome views of the ocean. It is quiet and away from the bustle of the town, although you can easily get your fix when you want it. If you want to get off the grid, this is the place. You have access to a quiet dock where you can sit and stare at the ocean or you can take a dip in the calm waters. The ocean here is very still and often times looks like glass. Breath-taking.

3. Bikes--This property is about a 10 to 15 minute bike ride from the center of town. One of our favorite parts of our vacation was the daily bike ride to and from town. It is definitely dark at night, so I would recommend bringing headlamps (although there was a flashlight at the property). Locks are also included.

4. Owners--We were lucky enough to meet the owners of this property during our stay. They are incredibly kind, conscientious, and just down-right awesome. They take a lot of pride in their property and ensure that it is comfortable for guests. It's a little scary to find a house online, and they proved to be very trust-worthy. Their manager, Michael, is helpful and professional.

Casita Bella Vida is all that is described and more! Wonderful deck and views; well-furnished living space and well-equipped kitchen. Ron the manager is so very attentive and helpful and we enjoyed meeting James and Rainy, who are lovely and welcoming people. We share their enthusiasm for this get-away-from-it-all off-the-grid piece of paradise.

Property was good, but very remote. Needed a microwave.

  • 2 of 5

My overall impression is biased. It rained, and a lot at times, every day for the entire week. Kinda killed my desire to do all the tours and activities I had planned. Humidity was stifling. Made me tired and lethargic. Because of the rain, renting a golf cart was essential. Riding a bike on flooded dirt roads is not fun. Did not want to travel the jungle dirt road to house after dark (5:30). Wished I had of stayed in town, would have gone out more. Should have done more research. Can’t control the weather. Live and learn.

Owner's Response: We are so pleased that you liked our property, however, we are not happy that the weather did not cooperate with your plans and it rained during your time with us. When we checked in with our house Manager (Ron) during your stay, he said that you told him our place was "perfect", and only wished that there was a microwave. He, in-turn, explained about our solar power system and how we have chosen to live Green here on the island. Our gas stove and oven heat everything up very nicely without leaving too much of a foot-print or a strain on our Eco-natural resources. I'm sure you would agree that If we could special-order sunshine and guarantee it for all our guests, it would place us into a category High above the 5-Star review rating that we strive for. We only wish that the weather could have been better for you during your 1-week stay. We would like to encourage you to to come back and visit us again during a more sunny time of the year. We are certain that you will Love Caye Caulker and all of the natural beauty it has to offer. Thank you.

Awesome Home and Island

  • 5 of 5

What an incredible place to relax and unwind. This home was perfect for what we were looking for. Caye Caulker itself is great, but we probably would have not stayed 11 nights if it wasn't for this property. It has some of the best swimming/dock access on the island, and is located in a quiet, semi secluded part of the island. The pictures you see on the profile are true to what the house is. No false advertising here. The work and love that the owners have put into the house is very evident.

The amenities are perfect. Everything worked well, and we did our best to conserve water and propane during the stay. The wrap around deck was really our favorite part of the house, with many hours spent in the hammocks taking in the view. There was always a nice breeze blowing through the house so it was never too hot. The snorkeling off the dock was fun, and our favorite part of every day was sitting on the dock and watching locals fish off nearby as the sun came down. We used the bikes that the owners have for your use every day, multiple times a day. We would have loved to have a kayak to paddle around in, but that was a minor thought.

We kept saying to ourselves, "This has to be the best house on Caye Caulker."

Owner's Response: So glad you enjoyed our home, property and your stay, and that you appreciated the experience of a secluded off-grid location on the island of Caye Caulker. It is truly a residential home away from home, sub-tropical get-away, off the coast of Belize, and we're so glad that you "got it", and that you had such a wonderful time here. Hope to have you back again someday!

Beautiful place worth checking it out!

  • 5 of 5

This property was everything we expected and more! The beauty and peacefulness was a gift. Caye Caulker is such a jewel that is not overly commercialized yet. We only met kind happy people. The dogs are even peaceful which is so strange...not one barked or chased our bikes. not one begged for food ,pretty amazing being there are a lot of them! We had a boat pick us up at Dons pier for snorkeling ( what a wonderful neighbor James and Rainy have!) That is the way to do it, talk about convenient! We also connected with a local fisherman (Miguel) he provided us with fresh Lobster, conk and crab legs. I don't know how anyone could not enjoy this adventure, biking was awesome! Gods gifts are very present in this place. Thank you for sharing! Keith ,Geralyn Gunter

Laid Back Caye Caulker

  • 4 of 5

The reviews below accurately describe Casa Bella Vida. The upper apartment was plenty spacious for the two of us, very clean, and the kitchen was adequately stocked with dishes, pans, etc., although not much in the way of spices or condiments. Mack and Rebecca provided a helpful orientation and promptly answered our questions. James and Rainy were in the lower apartment but we rarely heard a peep from them. Riding to and from town on the bikes was tricky at first but fine once we learned how to maneuver. The trail is a bit treacherous, especially at night, but two headlamps are now available for use. There was no kayak available during our stay, as noted by a previous reviewer. Being off the grid was no issue for us. We conserved as much as possible and there was plenty of hot water. Wi-fi worked fine throughout our stay.

The views from the wrap-around deck were great and James has just completed a rooftop viewing platform, which was perfect for watching sunsets and moonrises. The dock is a bit rickety and the water was murky during our visit so we didn't swim there.

A word of caution for those of you who, like me, who are bug magnets: In spite of plentiful breezes and being cautious about not going out too early in the mornings or too late in the evenings, the Belizean sand flies at the south end where CBV is located made a feast out of me! Next time I will skip the natural oils, the bug coils, the citronella incense sticks, the bug bracelets, etc., and go straight for Deet.

Owner's Response: So glad our guests had a "laid back" stay. Just to note: We provided salt, pepper, sugar, olive oil, soy sauce, hot sauce, coffee & tea. Any other spices are readily available, "fresh", at the markets for under a dollar. The path to the Villa and many other roads on Caye Caulker have been recently upgraded and re-sanded and make traveling and exploring the island very easy. The island has been regularly spraying for sand flies since the time of this guests' stay. If they had mentioned to us that they needed deet, we would have provided it. We are so glad that they were the first to enjoy and appreciate our NEW rooftop sky deck.
