Overview

About the property

4 bedroom, 3.5 bath with ocean views

Enjoy your Master Bedroom with private bath. Indulge in your European steam shower and marble-tiled, dual-head shower spa. Your separate media room comes equipped with a 42' flat screen TV with Apple TV, a Wii and Wii Fit for gaming enthusiasts, and built-in, custom-carpeted, stadium seating for enjoying with family and friends! Besides enjoying a game, Blue Ray DVD, or your own movies and music via apps like Netflix and iTunes, feel free to enjoy a book, play a board game, or pass an afternoon on the second story outdoor seating area watching the sail and power boats explore the coast. Your custom kitchen, part of a recent hundred thousand dollar renovation, waits just inside, where you can fix anything from French 75's to a pitcher of frozen margaritas-- or gourmet cook to your hearts content-- while drinking in the visual beauty of the Carolina coast or listening to shore birds and the clinking of the ships' rigging... Downstairs, one bedroom is perfect for young children with its two day beds, comfortingly enclosed on three sides. Two roll-out trundles are great for siblings. Or, the bedroom can be put to good use by single friends maximizing space on vacation! Enjoy the back porch swing and two bathrooms from which to choose: one with a custom, marble-tiled shower enclosure with its own water-heater to ensure endless showers or another with a Jacuzzi jetted-tub large enough for couples or young children and their friends! A second bedroom is perfect for couples or siblings with its full-size, handmade solid pine daybed with full-size, roll-out trundle. Both bedrooms also feature sail chairs--comfortable and nearly indestructible-- made locally from up-cycled, racing-grade, boat sail!. The third bedroom, with full-size bed, antique side table and blanket chest, is well-suited to grandparents or another couple. It is also the location of the wireless router which affords high speed internet throughout the home. Your upstairs custom kitchen has bar seating as well as a more formal dining area for eight. In addition to typical amenities, enjoy your Keurig, espresso maker, charcoal grill, and atypical cookware including a pressure cooker favored in many cuban dishes. You'll also find your kitchen basics fully stocked on arrival-- we do ask that you replenish what you use and we welcome suggestions on what you'd like to see added in the future. Outside, enjoy croquet in your yard, stroll through the picturesque neighborhood, or take a swim or a suntan in the in-ground pool. If exploring's your passion, the marina, coastal walk, and historic Southport are just down the street. If bar-life or food are your passions, stroll to six right on the water-- and don't be surprised to watch dolphins play while you eat (or drink!). Jump on your bikes or walk a little farther for the shopping or antiquing which brings day trippers down from Wilmington, Oak Island, or Bald Head. Terrific beaches are easily accessible by car and/or ferry, ranging from minutes on neighboring Oak Island to 30 minutes or so for Wilmington area destinations. Or, with an additional security deposit, fee, and proof of boating experience, use your 19' Grady White with a Yamaha 150, berthed within eyesight of your home, and the entire coast is your playground! Pack a picnic and Pelican Island can be your private beach, and is a 5-minute boat-ride away. Visit Bald Head Island and its miles of pristine beaches, including terrific body-surfing and surfing breaks. Boat the Intracoastal and stop for lunch, dinner, or drinks, wherever you fancy! If golf's your passion, St James Plantation is right around the corner by boat or car. Original art throughout including works by local artists and the Georgia-based, Sandra Sacco. Custom ceiling fans throughout.

About Patrick or Carrie

Carrie first glimpsed picturesque Southport while boating, enroute to attend a fairy-tale wedding on nearby Bald Head Island. It was a few years before she and I could make it a reality, but it's been every bit worth the wait! We take great pleasure in welcoming you, and we hope you'll enjoy making our family home part of your family, year after year. Welcome.

Patrick or Carrie purchased this house in 2013

Why Patrick or Carrie chose Southern Coast

Our family fell in love with this home, literally from the moment we saw it! Our kids compared the Key West colors to Candyland, Carrie loved the antiquing, and we both loved the uniqueness of Southport! Despite living and vacationing in destination locales such as Nantucket Island, MA, Kiawah Island, SC, the Hamptons in New York, and all around Southern California, we have found ways Southport equals or exceeds them all--and we're still discovering new things every time we visit! Come explore, and let us know what you find!

What makes this house unique

If you fall in love with Crazy Birds as we did-- or have some experiences too memorable to forget-- leave a photo! Every year we plan to frame and mount a sample of these, and feature them throughout. So, all together, we'll make Crazy Birds part of our family history!

Beautiful home in Southport!

  • 5 of 5

We had a girls' weekend / laid back bachelorette weekend at Crazy Birds and it was perfect - it is so nice, clean, and beautifully decorated. There is not a couch or full-sized living room, but we did not need one - we spent most of our time on the 2nd floor porch/deck, enjoying our drinks (coffee or wine, depending on the time of day :) ) and the view! Crazy Birds was very well stocked and had everything we could possibly need. The owners are very friendly and a pleasure to deal with, and were very accommodating to our requests. We would DEFINITELY stay here again - my only regret is that we could not stay longer! Thank you!

Owner's Response: Hi Ashley, So good to hear y'all would definitely return, and only regret that you couldn't stay longer! We are delighted you chose Crazy Birds for such an important event, and would DEFINITELY love to welcome you back! Glad you mentioned that we no longer have a traditional couch or indoor living room. With our recent $100k plus renovation, we opted to go with our architect's and designer's recommendations to create the outdoor living 'room' you mentioned with its over-size five-piece sectional sofa and water views, as well as the indoor media room with its plush-carpeted, stadium-seating that's been a hit with children of all ages! Another benefit some folks have mentioned of this open second floor design is that it allows travellers to enjoy different activities within close proximity: one group relaxing on the sectional seating in the outdoor living room, another seated around the Quartz-topped kitchen table and bar, and a third lounging in the media room visible through the glass-paneled doors... Hope to welcome you back to Crazy Birds soon! Warmly, Patrick & Carrie

Stunning Renovation!

  • 5 of 5

Crazy Birds's remodel is stunning: marble floors throughout (except the beautiful hardwood ones in all the bedrooms), a gorgeous second floor kitchen (from where we watched the occasional sail boat or yacht cruise by, not to mention the coastal view which literally made our blood pressure drop over quiet morning coffee), the master bathroom steam showe/rain shower (did I mention the marble shower enclosure?!?), and I could go on and on! Even the media room was cool with its shag carpeting (including covering the built in stadium type bench seats) and glass-paneled pocket doors... My wife and I were amazed at the attention to detail throughout too: extra tall, solid wood doors which made us feel like we were in a Carolina low country plantation, the wainscoting in the small but gorgeous foyer, the monogrammed towels and glasses (usually a "CB" for Crazy Birds), etc... So thank you Patrick and Carrie for sharing your beautiful property--we can't wait to come back!!

Owner's Response: Thank you, Evan, for taking the time to write such a kind review--and we're delighted you and your wife so thoroughly enjoyed the remodel, especially given the punch list items remaining! We couldn't be happier with the great work by the whole team of folks involved from the contractors and decorator all the way back to the architect. We were blessed with good folks who are also very talented in their work! Come back soon with your whole family! Warmly, Patrick & Carrie

Wonder Girls weekend

  • 5 of 5

Beautiful, clean, nicely decorated house. The pictures do not do it justice. It feels much larger than it looks, and has so many personal touches that make you feel at home. The upstairs deck was my fave spot, as it got cooler in the afternoon and you could sit and watch the boats come in. The swinging hammock was a dream. It is a nicely appointed house. The house is very close to the water; just across from the Marina. It was the perfect place for a waterfront run in the morning. The master bedroom was SO comfortable and the master bedroom shower was a dream. It is walkable to couple fun restaurants. The walk may be too far for elderly or anyone with hip pain (like my Mom). We would definitely return there again. Hope to take my whole family back next time.

Welcome to your vacation home, situated along the shores of the Cape Fear River and the Intracoastal Waterway, at the river's mouth of the Atlantic Ocean. You've seen Southport in little screen productions including 'Revenge' and 'Dawson's Creek', and big screen features including 'I know What You Did Last Summer', 'Nights in Rodanthe', and 'Safe Heaven'. Come enjoy this picturesque town, founded in 1792, yet still retaining its 'fishing village charm.' Find quiet, restaurants even a foodie would enjoy such as quiet romantic gems like The Pharmacy-- or embrace the bustle and fresh local seafood of Mr. P's-- or grab drinks and dinner on the water, listening to live local bands at Fishy Fishy-- or dine in, feasting on seafood from Potters, Clems, or Haag & Sons, pulled from the waters you see from your vacation home... Enjoy major events such as The North Carolina Fourth of July Festival, the 29th Annual Spring Festival, the 7th Annual Bay Creek Classic Benefit Flounder Tournament, the 5th Annual Southport Wooden Boat Show, or the U.S. Open King Mackerel Tournament. Or come on a quiet night or weekend... No need for a car once you arrive, either. Our semi-private pool is a walk across the street. Four waterfront bars and restaurants are 5 minutes away by foot. Downtown shops and restaurants are less than 10 minutes away by foot. Or, ride one of our old-style bikes and whittle your travel time in half... If you choose to, contact us about the use of our 19' Grady White 180 Sportsman. Equiped with a Yamaha 150 HP, GPS and Sonar, and a Fusion sound system, you can sink your toes and beach comb in the pristine sands of Pellican Island in 5 minutes, explore exclusive Bald Head Island in 15 minutes, accept the challenge of off-shore fishing within 30 minutes, or meander the intracoastal stopping to dine in marinas or drop anchor where the mood takes you... On rainy days, relax at home with two flat screen TVs, Apple TV, a Blue Ray player, gaming on your Wii, dabble with a puzzle, or listen to the rain fall on your tin roof from your covered balcony or front porch. Or, explore downtown and sift through countless antique shops, artist show rooms, restaurants and bars. And if the mood strikes you, remember one of Southport's slogans 'we don't have a town drunk; we all just take turns'!
