About the property

Sleeps 6. Private oasis in bucolic area and setting.

Summer 2017. We would prefer to rent the full month of August $11,500. Magical retreat in exclusive location of multi-million dollar homes. Listen to the rushing river from every room. Heated pool. Long & private drive. Complete privacy in ideal location. Large entertaining rooms include a gracious foyer, dining room, sun room with fireplace and living room with fireplace. 2 queen bedrooms and one queen pull out in the sunroom. Gourmet, cook's kitchen with brand new stainless appliances. 3 flat-screens and one is a Smart TV. Wifi and satellite. The home is decorated with contemporary and antique, comfortable furnishings collected from all over the world. Outdoor fire pit, gas grill & charcoal one. Several spots to dine outdoors. Perfect home for any getaway. Walk or bike to the pond, hiking trails, river or farms. Quintessential New England towns are very nearby for all kinds of shopping, antiques, & fabulous restaurants. Quintessential New England at its best! Note that the pool is open Memorial Day to Labor Day unless we have extra hot weather.

About Christopher Herrmann

My husband & I fell in love with the area after leaving the Hamptons in 2002. I am a local Realtor in Connecticut and also in New York City. My husband has a production company in Manhattan directing and producing all types of film, commercials and industrial media.

Christopher Herrmann purchased this house in 2012

Why Christopher Herrmann chose Lake Candlewood

We fell in love with it the minute we pulled into the driveway. You will too. Special and quiet.

BEWARE. Misrepresented House. Very poor condition.

  • 1 of 5

This house is in very poor condition. Do not trust sight, property owners or property manager.

Owner's Response: As you can see from our previous reviews that this is not the case. The photos are exactly as the house appears. This person gave me a sob story about her son's troubles in a nearby private school and how she needed to come and be near him. She asked for a discount, which I granted. They came to the house and stayed for quite some time to have rearranged portions of the home and left their trash behind. They expected the pool to be up and running with 38 degree temperatures at night. The pool isn't open until Memorial Day weekend as this is the Northeast of the U.S. VRBO is a very good site and I use it when traveling. We are well vetted.

Perfect for a small group

  • 4 of 5

The house was perfect for our weekend in the Litchfield area. It was centrally located and we had easy access to Roxbury and Washington. We really enjoyed the updates the owner made to their charming home. We also enjoyed the fact that all of the bedding and linens were new and the house was spotless. We would definitely return

Great girls weekend

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed our stay here. The property was clean and quiet. The decor of the home was beautifully done and was very inviting - the whole house made for an incredibly relaxing weekend. The house would have been difficult to find, but Joseph had sent a description that made it smooth. The house is off of the main road, giving you that country feel but also close enough to the downtown area so that if you forget something the stores aren't too far a drive. Our favorite activities were only 15/20 minutes from the home. We loved Theo's Downtown Diner for breakfast, we visited Lovers Leap which offered some nice views and an easy family friendly hike, we also hit up Averill Farm for apple picking and delicious pizza! Overall just a great experience.

Simple but sublime getaway

  • 5 of 5

More rustic than what my husband and I are used to renting, the house though had pure charm.

The heated pool was a delight. The Jorinos were very responsive to whatever we needed during our stay.

The kitchen cabinets and masters bedroom closet could have used some updating but all in all the house

and Litchfield County were the stars of our two week vacation.

Great Place to Unwind!

  • 4 of 5

We really enjoyed our stay here. The house is set back from the road, giving the property privacy (the neighborhood was very quiet as well). The house was nicely furnished and clean, with a spacious layout. The kitchen was well equipped and bathroom and bedrooms clean. Would definitely recommend!
