The views from Cedar Solace are absolutely breathtaking—honestly, the photos don’t do them justice. From the moment we arrived, we were captivated by the Lake Superior vistas and the peaceful forest setting.
This place is the ultimate relaxing retreat. The Scandinavian design is beautiful and thoughtful, with every detail creating such a calming atmosphere. The sauna and soaking tub were incredible after long days exploring the North Shore trails. We spent our evenings unwinding in the sauna, then soaking while watching the sunset over the lake.
Everything was immaculate, and the space felt both luxurious and cozy at the same time. We can’t wait to come back—already planning our next trip! Thank you. Paula
Beautiful, secluded location. Love the open kitchen and living area with great view of lake Superior. Elegant master bath. Is close to lots of things to do; Lutsen ski hill, hiking, fishing and just a short distance from Grand Marais. All at a reasonable price. Highly recommend.
We loved our stay at Cedar Solace! The Host was super attentive, and for a new listing, they really had a great attention to detail. This place is the perfect blend of modern amenities and nature's serenity. Everything was neat, clean, intuitive, and well appointed. The furniture was super comfy, and there were plenty of extra blankets and pillows if you want to lounge around and just absorb the natural beauty. Additionally, it's really close to Lutsen and about 25 minutes to Grand Marais, so you'll have plenty of things to explore nearby. We'll definitely be back!

Thank the so much, Michael! We truly enjoyed hosting you and want to welcome you back anytime.
Cedar Solace was a wonderful place to enjoy the North Shore at Thanksgiving. Watching the 'Gales of November' on Lake Superior from the cabin windows was pretty wild. The heated floors and the big gas fireplace were the perfect combination to keep the cabin toasty warm despite the blustery winter winds. The hosts have thought of everything one could possibly need: a well-appointed kitchen with nice appliances including a gas stove, quality linens & bath products, beautiful finishes, and local artwork throughout. Oh, and the sauna! Who knew one could make a steamy snow angel!Overall, we had a lovely stay and look forward to returning next time we visit Grand Marais.

Suzan,
Thank you so much for your kind words! We really enjoyed hosting you and your family over Thanksgiving. We look forward to hosting again and will keep the sauna warm.
Our entire stay was more than perfect! Absolutely beautiful cabin with a contemporary “loft” vibe snuggled into the woods with a gorgeous view of the lake! Lindsey and her family were very communicative and clearly wanted to make sure we had all we needed. The sauna was fantastic with all of the little extras provided to make it perfect! The kitchen was fully stocked right down to a frother! The laundry facilities were so nice to have direct access to! The beds were very comfortable and the rooms offered nice privacy for everyone in our group. We were minutes from the mountain so getting to the lift was a breeze ! Gaining entry was smooth and the driveway up was cleared and safe! We absolutely loved our time there ! Thank you Lindsey & family ! Happy New Year!
Our new favorite place to stay on the North Shore! Location is great w/ easy access to Lutsen Mountain skiing and a short walk to a public park on Lake Superior. Being away from the lake a few blocks meant it was a little warmer and less windy, without sacrificing the beautiful views. Kids enjoyed exploring the woods and adults loved watching the sunrises over the water. Wonderful hosts. Very clean house with comfortable beds and blackout blinds. The most special feature is the brand new sauna with views of the woods and lake — wow! We are frequent visitors to the North Shore and have stayed at probably 15 houses/resorts around Lutsen in recent years, and this one earned the highest rating from all four members of our family. Thank you!
We just returned from our lovely stay in Lutsen and I’m already missing our mornings spent on the patio enjoying the lake view! The cabin was spotless - you can tell the owners take great pride in their property. The bathtub was a treat and the fireplace became our favorite spot in the evenings. It’s very a peaceful property and the locations is wonderfully private in the woods. I was surprised at how close everything is. We made it up to Grand Maria’s easily for dinner, the Lutsen Ski Resort gondola was close by and plentiful trails for hiking in the area. Everything was well arranged and comfortable. The kitchen had what we needed to prepare breakfasts annd lunch and included tea and coffee. We would come again!
We stayed at this beautiful cabin in Lutsen for the weekend for our anniversary and absolutely loved it! The place was spotless, modern, and thoughtfully designed. It was stocked with everything we could possibly need, from a fully equipped kitchen to all the bathroom essentials. We were able to cook and grill full meals with ease, which made it feel like a true home away from home. The sauna and Solo Stove fire pit were such nice touches and made for the perfect way to unwind at the end of the day. The views were absolutely breathtaking. Waking up to see Lake Superior through the large windows as the morning sun poured in is a memory we’ll never forget. The bed was incredibly comfortable, and the cozy décor made the entire cabin feel warm and inviting. Every detail was well thought out, and it’s clear the hosts put a lot of care into making guests feel welcome. We can’t wait to come back!
This was such a stunning getaway I would book over and over. I wanted to find something that was quiet, private, and a total nature getaway and this was absolutely it. You can’t see or hear the neighbors (it is a multiple acre property) which was the #1 thing I wanted. You have a beautiful view of the water and I loved the soaking tub and fire pit area for relaxing around just listening to nature. It was paradise for the few days I was there 3 The house was beautiful and modern….so many gorgeous touches that made it upscale and beautiful. The heated floors were so nice and cozy, and a super spacious kitchen with everything already there that you needed to cook with, which made it way easier to relax for a few days. Also Lindsey the host is AMAZING! The absolute nicest person, like booking with your best friend and not with a stranger. She took care of everything.Overall an incredible stay and I would give it 10 out of 10 stars if I could! Book it, you will not be disappointed!
Had a great stay at Cedar Solace! Clean, well stocked and had everything we needed. Was ample space for our two families. Close proximity to the ski hill. Large outdoor sauna with deer walking by each morning.

About the host
Hosted by Lindsey Edson
Hi! We're Dave and Lindsey, and we live in Duluth with our two young kids. As a family, we're absolutely passionate about the outdoors and mountains—and Minnesota's North Shore is as close as we can get to that authentic alpine experience right here in the Midwest.
We fell head over heels for this rugged coastline where ancient lava flows meet the endless blue of Lake Superior. There's something truly magical about morning mist rising from the lake, how the Sawtooth Mountains frame every sunrise, and how the forest transforms with each passing season.
Our family spends countless hours hiking and mountain biking the region's endless trail systems, fly fishing pristine streams for native brook trout, hiking to hidden waterfalls, and skiing both downhill at Lutsen Mountains and cross-country through quiet forests. We're devoted to our sauna time—it's become a family ritual—and we love cooking with local ingredients. And honestly, there's nothing better than a fire pit evening under the North Shore's incredible starry skies.
We created Cedar Solace because we wanted to share this incredible place with others who appreciate authentic experiences and natural beauty. This isn't just a rental property for us—it's an extension of how we live and what we value. We've thoughtfully curated every detail, from partnering with local Minnesota artisans to choosing sustainable materials, because we believe travel should connect people with place in meaningful ways.
When you stay at Cedar Solace, you're tapping into our years of local knowledge, our favorite hidden spots, and our genuine passion for this remarkable region. We hope you'll fall in love with the North Shore just like we have.
Why they chose this property
We chose this specific location in Lutsen because it represents the absolute sweet spot of North Shore living—the perfect balance between peaceful seclusion and convenient access to everything that makes this region extraordinary.
Cedar Solace sits at the very end of Mountain Ash Lane, a private cul-de-sac tucked into a mature cedar grove. This end-of-road location means you have no neighbors behind you—just forest, lake views, and profound tranquility. Our long, winding driveway through ancient cedars creates a genuine sense of arrival, that moment when you exhale and feel the outside world fade away.
But here's what makes this location truly exceptional: despite feeling completely removed, you're actually minutes from the North Shore's best experiences. Lutsen Mountains—Minnesota's premier ski destination with 95 runs—is just seven minutes away. Superior National Golf Course is six minutes. North Shore Winery is five minutes. The charming harbor village of Grand Marais is only fifteen minutes away.
Even better, you can literally step from the cabin onto the Superior Hiking Trail, voted #2 in the nation. Snowmobile trail access puts 450 miles of winter trails at your doorstep. And some of Minnesota's most spectacular waterfalls—Caribou Falls, Cascade River, Temperance River—are all within twenty minutes.
This neighborhood also captures the authentic North Shore character we love. You're surrounded by the working landscape of the Sawtooth Mountains, where forest meets Lake Superior dramatically. The Lutsen area maintains that genuine North Woods feel—no strip malls or tourist traps—just real Minnesota beauty.
What makes this property unique
Cedar Solace stands apart because we've created something genuinely different—an authentic Nordic-inspired retreat that honors both Scandinavian design principles and North Shore character, while offering experiences you simply won't find at typical vacation rentals.
First, the design itself. We've embraced clean, minimalist Nordic aesthetics with warm pine and custom metal accents throughout. The polished concrete floors with in-floor heating, the custom metal fireplace, floor-to-ceiling windows framing Lake Superior views—every element invites you to slow down and be present. Our large front patio becomes an outdoor living room where you'll spend hours watching the lake's ever-changing moods.
What truly sets Cedar Solace apart is our commitment to authentic experiences. We're installing a premium electric sauna by Sauna Supply Company, creating the complete Finnish wellness tradition right here. After hiking or skiing, you'll have access to this restorative ritual that Scandinavians have practiced for centuries.
We've also curated partnerships with exceptional local Minnesota artisans. You'll find handcrafted pieces from Bailey Builds, lighting from Hennepin Made, sustainable outdoor furniture from Loll Designs, and locally-roasted Fika Coffee. Every item tells a story of authentic craftsmanship.
The cabin itself is thoughtfully designed for various groups. The master suite offers a private sanctuary with en-suite bathroom, soaking tub, and walk-in glass shower. Two additional bedrooms provide flexible sleeping with king and queen beds plus bunks.
Our location is unbeatable—complete privacy at road's end, yet seven minutes to skiing and fifteen to Grand Marais. And our comprehensive welcome book shares our actual favorite spots, from the restaurant that makes the best pie on the North Shore to hidden waterfalls most visitors never find.
