Thank you Jeannette, we are thrilled you enjoyed your stay at The Whitman House, it is steeped in history and we love sharing it. Please come back soon!
My husband and I hosted our four adult children and son-in- law for a Greenport weekend and this adorable house could not be more perfect! There was plenty of space for all of us. The beds were very comfortable and the house was clean. We enjoyed cooking in the spacious kitchen and hanging out playing games. It was so nice to be so close to town - we walked minutes for shopping, cocktails and great meals. Rachel was a great host who responded to any and all questions and requests immediately. We would love to return to The Whitman House!
Character, charm, abundance of space, wonderful central location, amazingly responsive communication, and great knickknacks scattered throughout. It exceeded out expectations.

Thanks Stephen! Glad you had fun. Those pieces of pottery have a great story, my grandfather in Ireland was a salesman, he and a Ret American Air Force pilot set up a business selling them. The picture has a cute poem about luck on the other side!
Having been a North Fork (Greenport & Southold) resident for over 30 years, we always wanted to experience living in the Village of Greenport. When the need arose to come back to the East End with a party of eight, we found a large enough space in the perfect location. Our host Rachel, was always quick to reply to our inquiries. The home is a charming older home located within walking distance of Front and Main Street. There were 4 bedrooms, two baths, two living rooms, TV's galore and a full service kitchen and pantry. We were delighted with being able to all stay together. The garden and yard were waiting for warmer weather to burst. Enjoy!

About the host
Hosted by RACHEL A OCONNOR
We are an international family who love to travel. We have been in Greenport for more than 25 years. We are deeply in love with the North Fork and all she has to offer, the beaches, the farms, the ponds, the Osprey! Swimming, cycling, cooking and gardening are a huge part of our lives. The house so open and warm, we have hosted so many families and friends, we are now happy to share it with the world! Sounds idyllic? It is. Come try it out!
Why they chose this property
We discovered the North Fork 25 years ago after staying on Shelter Island. Greenport has so much to offer, with nothing to do and plenty to do.
A vibrant arts community, historic cinema and wonderful library can keep you busy year round. It is as charming in the winter as summer. Autumn is especially great out here with all the farm stands in full glory.
We raised our family here, it is a magical place for children.Easy flat hikes, safe cycling and swimming, lots of fun activities in the Village, many of them free. Fishing, kayaking, all fun and safe on both the Sound and Bay beaches.
The best secret is its proximity to the city, less than a hundred miles, via car, bus, train and airport connections, you can be transported easily to a new world.
What makes this property unique
The house is just magical, at least we think it is.
It has lots of light and great vibes. It is surprisingly large and goes all the way back, opening out to a bright kitchen and garden.
Although very old, it feels bright modern and very airy. She holds up well in the winter and is super cosy.
The sitting room is a rare white wedding cake of a room with pressed tin walls and ceilings.
Old wooden floor boards are so wide and the steep stair case really gives you a sense of time.
There are many original fixtures and fitting that are so sweet, tiny door knobs and old square nails made by a local blacksmith in the late 1800's. Trap doors that go nowhere, hide-y holes upstairs, fun for an adventurous child.
The landing upstairs has a lovely reading bench and library for a chill out zone.
