Excellent location; neglected home
The house sits up high, on a terrific little beach, in the beautiful canopy. Great spot to enjoy the relaxed vibe of Punta Uva. The house clearly isn't lived in, and lacks many of the basic amenities that a home owner would have. We're seasoned travelers and don't expect creature comforts, but when a toilet seat doesn't fit and you have to literally grab the bowl each time to lift the lid, it's a problem. Home has a bat problem and droppings hit the floor every night close to our heads. Run by a "management" company who love their rules. Despite having laundry in the home, you have to schlep it to the management office and pay $4 per kilo, and pay cash. Hmmmm.....We have 3 kids, 9, 6, and 3, and the layout is odd -- master on the first floor, so we packed all 3 kids in one of the two upstairs bedrooms and left the first floor room empty.....as we weren't comfortable leaving kids alone on the 2nd floor. Overall a great location, but clearly the management and its staff, as well as the upkeep of the home are OK with mediocrity.
Our Family Christmas Vacation
We chose to celebrate Christmas as a family in Costa Rica, and we found this BEAUTIFUL home to rent for the week. Since most of us had not been to CR, we were nervous about renting a home with little knowledge of the area, and to our amazement, the house was beyond our expectations !!!! Yes, you are in the jungle (which includes monkeys, sloths, and maybe a few bugs) but we were literally 100 yards from the beach. The rooms were exactly as shown online, a/c worked in the bedrooms, big screen TV in the family room, kitchen was perfect!!! The porch was our favorite spot every day !!!! Loved the area and the house. We will return soon!!!! We felt like rock stars staying at the house :). I admit, I was hoping for a hot-tub on the porch, however, the ocean made up or it!!!!
beautiful, comfortable beach front estate delivers!
We are having a wonderful time in Playa Chiquita! The house is beautiful, lustrous wood floors, great kitchen with big fridge. I have a lot of experience renting vacation homes, and I was thrilled with the house, it looks just like the pictures. The grounds are beautiful, with views of the beach between the trees. Howler monkeys in the trees outside the kitchen window! We are a party of 5, very comfortable in the living room and plenty of space in the bedrooms. We have prepared breakfast and lunch every day, going out to dinner each evening. I recommend visiting the jaguar rescue center, which is within walking or bike ride. We also went to the sloth rescue center, which was also a one of a kind experience. We have had fabulous dinners at Shawanda Lodge, and El Refugio in Manzanillo, to name a couple of places. De Gustibus Bakery has wonderful croissants and breads as well as espresso.
I give this place 4 stars rather than 5 because when we checked in, the property manager was uninformed about the property - how the safes work, light switches, the remote to the tv. The air air conditioning is feeble at best, but we slept with the doors open so we didn't care. The house is well maintained, but rather impersonal- nothing on any walls, no area rugs, kind of bare. THat being said, I would absolutely recommend this house to my friends.
If you like a filthy house with windows so filthy you can't see the beach. If you like cockroaches, three kinds of ants, one bites because it bit me. The air conditioning did not work in one bedroom, and it is again broken. Be prepared to wipe up either rat or mouse poop in the kitchen twice daily, the light switches are not marked, it took me ten minutes to turn out lights nightly. I won't cook in a kitchen with a hood system, that has missing parts. Great access to beach, you have to walk over a board.
Also that nice outdoor bed, that's gone. No maid service daily. I loved the design of the house, the location. Nothing was explained to us, so satellite tv we could not figure out. We have used vrbo twice and had excellent rentals, clean, very few bugs, nice caretaker that actually took care of us. We are leaving two days early to our next rental in playa Chiquita!! The pictures are not what the house looks like, run down, sliding doors don't meet, so they actually have sticks to keep people out because you can't close the sliding doors because they don't meet. One bedroom the door won't stay closed without pushing hard and using the deadbolt to keep it closed, wouldn't use the hot tub, ants all over, it needs cover. So rent this luxury beachfront home with gourmet kitchen (black mold in refrig rubber) I cleaned some, but not all. I could go on with more, haven't seen BBQ. VRBO should take this off their listing so no one else gets what we did.
Playa Chiquita, 7 Km southern Puerto Viejo, as its name indicates, is a succession of small, white sandy beaches, certain of which are protected by a reef. It's a very friendly/family neighborhood with restaurants, grocery store (where you can find international products), ice cream shop, within walking distance. Our main office is located in Playa Chiquita, next to the school that says "Centro Educativo Playa Chiquita Punta Uva".
