Know before you go: this house needs attention. An older home can absolutely be charming, but it still needs to be clean, safe, and functional, and this property wasn’t.When we arrived, the house was dirty (floors, a wet and dirty kitchen sponge, mold in the shower, crumbs in the kitchen cabinets) and several things were non‑functional (no smoke detectors, missing lightbulbs, clogged bathroom sink, no hot water, broken window shades). We spent the first day cleaning floors and the bathroom, sweeping the porch, and washing seasons of dirt off the outdoor furniture while deciding whether we would stay the full week.The host was responsive and reasonable. He sent a plumber the next day and issued a partial refund. I don’t believe he lives in Emporium, and it shows—he likely doesn’t see the true condition of the home.Unfortunately, I do not recommend this property. There are too many issues that add up to a stressful stay. You’re greeted by crumbling concrete steps, peeling paint, moldy siding, and dirty windows. The AC units are loud, and one makes an alarming noise when the compressor tries to restart. The couch is covered nicely, but underneath it’s a collection of mismatched pieces. The bathroom is on a noticeable slant, including the toilet. The second‑floor ceiling is about 7 feet high with bare bulbs hanging from the ceiling.This house has potential, but it needs significant cleaning, repairs, and attention before it should be rented.
