John Gile purchased this property over ten years ago as it had been built by his ancestors in the early 1800s Since that time John has enjoyed sharing the home with his family and friends.
John L Gile purchased this chateau / country house in 2003
We purchased this home because it had been built by our great-great-great-great grand father in 1804. The Home stayed within our family until the early 1900's. We love this home as a place for family gatherings over holidays such as July 4th, Thanksgiving and Christmas.
We are very flexible with the size of your group. The size of this home makes it perfect for larger groups such as family reunions, holiday events, weddings, etc.
Our family reunion last week drawing family from Maryland, Massachusetts, Delaware, New Jersey, Uganda and Kenya -- was fantastic. The house was big with communal areas to accommodate teenagers, young adults and seniors. The spread out lawns allowed for aerobic workouts in the morning, soccer games on front lawn in afternoon followed by swimming in the pool to cool down. The enclosed eating area allowed for out big group to share meals together and bond. The property manager was responsive and easy to deal with. The house is old so need for some sprucing up (shower door fell out as did some window panes from door in outside eating area,).
But all in all we enjoyed the beautiful sunrises and sun sets and the peace of being out in the country. It is also near Webster lake which as a public beach.
We had our annual family reunion at the farm house this year. The amount of bedrooms, space and pool made it the perfect vacation. The house had everything we needed, and we didn't need to leave the grounds the entire long weekend! Glen the caretaker was very attentive and able to answer all our questions. We plan to make this house our annual reunion!
Was a great place for my groups annual golf outing, plenty of rooms/beds, great indoor and outdoor congregation space, and plenty of character. Only drawback was some low doorway headers.
Already considering a return trip!
Gile Road is a very special place. We have stayed there twice and we will definitely return. It is full of history and is incredibly charming and very comfortable. Each time we went with a large group of good friends and had an amazing time. It is quiet and relaxing and also possesses rooms spacious enough for large groups of friends and family to gather and eat meals together. From each window of the home you see amazing vistas and you feel like you are in the country but you are actually quite close to two different towns. I love this farmhouse!
I have never been to New Hampshire before for a vacation and I was so thrilled with this charming farm house! Being from a city, I appreciated the excellent plumbing, heat and appliances. The guy who tends to the house is so accommodating. It was so quiet and relaxing. We could snow shoe right on the property. A perfect get away, yet 10 minutes from 2 really quaint towns where we could eat, shop, etc. Highly recommend it!
We stayed here over the New Year’s holiday with 5 other couples. The pictures are accurate in showing a home of considerable age and history. We woke up the first morning to no heat and no hot water which they promptly fixed. What they could not fix was the smell of sewerage that permeates many rooms of the house. The rooms that did not smell of sewerage smelt of heating oil. Some of us left a day early while others stayed and toughed it out.
We had fun because of the people we were with but would not return.
Gile Road is close to many lakes including Webster , Winnipesaukee, and Close to Ragged Mountain, Mt Sunapee and Gunstock Mountain, Mt Kearsarge Indian Museum, Ellacoya State Park, and just 20 minutes north of Concord the State Capitol. Centrally located for experiencing the Fall colors through out the State.
