Do we have to leave!?
We had a great time staying here! Beautiful country property with horses and view of arena not an experience we get everyday! Close to Waimea with restaurants but also grocery stores if you want to eat at the ranch. Great central location to experience northern half of the island. Very clean. Kitchenette nicely stocked. Extra blankets and beach towels for use. Don't require any cleanup before checking out! Do have washer and dryer available for use. Absolutely great place to stay! Would definitely stay here again!
I surprised my husband with a 2 night stay at the Rocking Chair Ranch for his 40th birthday, and we were both surprised by this unique VRBO! I knew it was on a ranch, but didn't realize we would be right in the center of all the action. It was fun having a birds-eye view into the arena from the unit. We even got to see riders practice roping in the arena on our second night. Everyone we met was super nice and so were the horses. My only recommendation might be, if you are a light sleeper to bring earplugs and a mask, as sometimes things get started early, and the blinds allow light to filter through from the arena and outside. The room was nicely decorated with authentic memorabilia, was well appointed and has beautiful views every direction! We enjoyed the coffee and the kitchenette came in handy. We really enjoyed our stay and have already recommended it to friends on island! Thanks Brian for sharing your hale with us! Mahalo!!
Comfortable small suite.
This is a comfortable small suite. Located close to Weamia. We found it to be clean. Brian was easy to work with.
Loved viewing all the goings-on on this farm!
This is a small two person apartment which overlooks a stable and indoor riding arena. The apartment is clean and decorated nicely with a “cowboy” or rodeo motif. I appreciated the family’s having shared through photos their history on Hawaii’s ranches. The views of Mauna Kea from the farm are fantastic. The arena is sometimes open until 10pm and the lights go on at 6am in the arena, so this might not be ideal if you like to sleep in. Mattress is comfortable. TV and WiFi worked well. There is a microwave but no oven or stovetop so don’t bring things you need an oven to prepare. No on-site laundry. Bathroom is clean. We really enjoyed our stay a great deal! This part of the island is beautiful.
We stayed 2 nights at the ranch while we explored the north end of the island. The location and the property are amazing. Like the other reviews mention, there is a little noise from the arena early in the mornings, but nothing that disrupted our stay. We enjoyed a lot of island rain for our 7 days on the windward side, which ultimately led to everything having a damp and musty odour to it. The washer and dryer is under the outside stairs and it was great to catch up on some laundry while travelling. The suite has everything you need for a short stay. High enough to enjoy some cooler temperatures and the edge of the windward side rainfall, but still only 20 minutes from sitting on the sand beaches. We fell in love with Waimea and are already working on plans for a longer stay in the area.
My husband and I came to the Big Island to celebrate our baby moon. I only wished we stayed at the Rocking Chair Ranch longer than two nights! It was so picturesque, cozy, and has everything you could need! We came during some rainy weather and it was so relaxing with the sound of rain, adorable animals and birds chirping in the morning! Easy to find, hosts were amazing, and such a beautiful laid-back part of the island.
The Bridle Suite is located above the covered arena where daily we train horses, and ride. Frequent activities are cutting, dressage and roping.
