Green Fields Miles

Staying here was just right. Near enough to convenient Waimea with its stores, restaurants and shopping, yet far enough away to feel isolated in natural beauty. The horses were awesome. The people we met on the ranch were nice and helpful. The place was just right. Thank you.

I booked this location because I wanted to show my kids a different part of Hawaii than the resorts. We were not disappointed

Gem in the rough in an unusual location

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I had often passed this ranch as we traveled between Waimea (Kamuela according to the post office) and Hilo and I always wondered what was behind the gate. Well we got a chance to find out this latest trip. I was very excited to find out a small apartment was offered here. It was raining when we got there and it was a little bit muddy as we got our luggage up the stairs. We always create what I call a dust "line" where no shoes are allowed beyond a certain point and so they get parked by the front door. The apartment was cozy with great cowboy touches. I especially loved the spur finials used to hold up the towel bars. The winning roper prize saddle in the bedroom has amazing workmanship - it took up some space but made for a useful place to put aside extra pillows. I also loved the picture above the bed that showed Maunakea, Maunaloa and Hualalai snow capped! We had everything we needed in the apartment but the bathroom could get a little humid as the window in the bathroom was too high for us to open (we are short :)) and interestingly enough opened out to the arena. I ran the tower fan to help alleviate that. As mentioned earlier we had everything we needed in the apartment. We slept so well while we were there and being woken up by the birds and horses was just lovely. It was also great getting to know the people who boarded and worked their horses there. This location allowed us to explore more of Puako, Kawaihae, Hawi, Kapa'au, Waimea, Honoka'a, Pa'auilo, etc. in the northern area of the island. We would love to stay here again!

Do we have to leave!?

  • 5 of 5

We had a great time staying here! Beautiful country property with horses and view of arena not an experience we get everyday! Close to Waimea with restaurants but also grocery stores if you want to eat at the ranch. Great central location to experience northern half of the island. Very clean. Kitchenette nicely stocked. Extra blankets and beach towels for use. Don't require any cleanup before checking out! Do have washer and dryer available for use. Absolutely great place to stay! Would definitely stay here again!

Bring Carrots!

  • 5 of 5

I surprised my husband with a 2 night stay at the Rocking Chair Ranch for his 40th birthday, and we were both surprised by this unique VRBO! I knew it was on a ranch, but didn't realize we would be right in the center of all the action. It was fun having a birds-eye view into the arena from the unit. We even got to see riders practice roping in the arena on our second night. Everyone we met was super nice and so were the horses. My only recommendation might be, if you are a light sleeper to bring earplugs and a mask, as sometimes things get started early, and the blinds allow light to filter through from the arena and outside. The room was nicely decorated with authentic memorabilia, was well appointed and has beautiful views every direction! We enjoyed the coffee and the kitchenette came in handy. We really enjoyed our stay and have already recommended it to friends on island! Thanks Brian for sharing your hale with us! Mahalo!!
