Enjoy a few relaxing weeks (or more) away from your home, at our home in Sunset Beach!
Sunset Beach is a small, ocean-side town on the very southernmost tip of NC, partially on the mainland and part on the barrier island. Until recently, this island was accessible only by a one-lane barge bridge, but a causeway has now replaced this resulting in easier access.
If you are seeking a quiet, peaceful place to visit, Sunset Beach is the spot, having one of North Carolina’s most beautiful and well-preserved beaches! The barrier island is both a turtle sanctuary for the endangered loggerhead turtles, and Bird Island is a protected part of the North Carolina Coastal Reserve, including nearly 1,500 acres of marsh, intertidal flats and, of course, Atlantic Ocean beach!
From the 40th Street boardwalk, it is a gorgeous 2-mile walk to the Little River Inlet in South Carolina. Whether walking, jogging or biking, beach-goers may see many species of shoreline plant and animal life and seashells. And if you like seclusion, it is largely deserted during the winter months.
Our home is an 1100 square foot residence located on the mainland in Shoreline Woods, a quiet, peaceful neighborhood with great oak trees and a winding waterway that runs throughout the area. It is a great place to walk or bike ride in the early mornings and evenings. We offer a comfortable two-bedroom, two-bath home, surrounded by trees and beautiful landscaping. The home is less than a mile from the new causeway to the island, and 1.8 miles from the Sunset Beach Pier!
This is a family owned second home that we would enjoy sharing with you! (We are not affiliated with any rental agency.) This beautiful brick home features lovely landscaping and natural garden areas, and is situated on a quiet corner lot with partial views of the intracoastal waterway! This home is in a great neighborhood location with a short drive to the Beach! Our 2-bedroom home sleeps four (2 couples, or family of up to 4) comfortably.
Accommodations include -- in the master bedroom, a bay window with a double bed, ceiling fan and private bath; the second bedroom has a queen-sized bed, ceiling fan, and access to the main bath which contains a brand new washer and a brand new dryer. The living area has a sofa, a leather recliner, a dining table with 4 chairs, ceiling fan and views of intracoastal canal from the front windows and open porch off the living room. There is a flat-screen TV in the living area as well, and we have cable TV. We also have Wi-Fi. The kitchen has a skylight, and a small bay window over the sink which also overlooks the intracoastal canal. In the fall through spring (outside temperature permitting), you can relax on the large, screened-in porch, complete with tables, sofa, chairs, lounger, light and ceiling fan. The porch has a vinyl window system, each window with 4 movable vinyl panels, allowing you to create your own indoor-outdoor atmosphere! There is a single carport located away from the house that contains a grill and chairs. The garage has two beach umbrellas, coolers, four beach chairs, and a couple of boogie boards for use at the beach. There are also two bicycles, but these are for use in the neighborhood only. There are bike rentals (Julies Rentals) for the beach on the island.
Small (under 20 pounds) house-trained pets are welcome, but we would like to know if you plan to bring your small pet. This is a non-smoking home, inside and out!
Guests must be over 25 years old to rent! To keep costs to you down, we do not have linen or cleaning services, so we request you leave the property ready for the next guest. We do provide linens, but you must launder prior to your departure. You may opt to bring your own linens, or check with Julies Rentals on the island.
The grocery store is about ½ mile away from the house, and is an easy bike ride (one of our bikes has a large basket on the back).
To gain access to the beach, there is a beach pass in my home that guests may use to park at the pier for free (it does not get you onto the pier). It is also permissible to parallel park for free on Main Street or W. N. Shore Drive near any of the beach access boardwalks, which are located across from every block street corner.
We prefer for guests to stay Saturday to Saturday during the high season (May to September). Please request dates on Saturdays during the summer.
Guests are required to returned a signed rental agreement prior to entry.
After spending numerous summers (and other times of the year) in Sunset Beach with some friends, we decided we would like year-round access to this quiet area of the coast!
This home is beautifully landscaped, with a semi-circle drive and walk-ways through the front. The large porch is a great place for morning coffee or to sit and read a book when not at the beach.
This house was everything we could have asked for. In fact, one could almost bring literally nothing and have everything they need. The house has every beach item needed, and the kitchen had all the utensils/dishes, etc. It is only a short drive to the beach, which really didn't bother us at all. The neighborhood is laid back and quiet, wonderful to walk among all the side streets. One could easily walk to the 3 restaurants/bars in town if desired. If one is not looking for beachfront views I would definitely recommend staying here. Only minor improvement I would suggest would be to hang a bigger TV on the fireplace, but who goes on vacation to watch TV! My wife and one year old could not have been happier with our stay at this house, we can't wait to go back!
This is our third year staying at this lovely home in a very beautiful neighborhood. The owner is the best we have ever rented from! Her generosity and good taste surpass all others! She has great beds, high quality linens, comfortable and clean furniture and all that we need in the kitchen. This is a beautiful setting...very private even though it is in a neighborhood! The walks in the neighborhood are so pleasant with many bluebirds, lots of tributaries from the Inter-Coastal Waterway which is visible from the house and lovely blooming trees and shrubs. The neighbors are very friendly as well and most are year-around residents. This home is pet friendly, but you wouldn't know it by the freshness and cleanliness. We bring our crate for our two small bichons, as we feel a responsibility to make sure the home is as clean when we leave as when we arrive. We also found a great groomer nearby so that we could maintain their monthly grooming. Some rentals never seem to keep up as well with maintenance and upgrades as Karen does. She is simply the Best of all of the rentals we have used! Ours will be an annual tradition at this neat home!
Karen was lovely to work with! She cares for her house and also that her renters are comfortable while there.
I loved walking the Shoreline Woods neighborhood, so quiet with many well tended homes.I recieved lots of friendly waves. The waterway,or ponds in the neighborhood empty into the Intercoastal Waterway, which you can glimpse between the houses, gave me lots of photos of Blue Herons,Egrets,Loons and various ducks.
The location is very convenient (close)to the Causeway/Bridge to Sunset Beach. I never used the island parking permit cuz I would go west on Main St.to the end,and would walk the Boardwalk to the beach where I spent many happy hours collecting shells, walking my dog, photographing sunsets and watching Dolphins. It was a much quieter end of the seashore which the island residents seemed to use.
I went in the "off season" so I was able to collect many shells, they were everywhere!
The location is convenient to Sea Trails entrances, which is where I went to visit my folks.
Calabash is fun to check out,as is Little River. North Myrtle Beach and Myrtle Beach was a 30 minute drive away...
If you are into Thrift or Consignment shopping, you'll be in heaven! Calabash,Ocean Isle Beach have lots.
Loads of fabulous resturants to choose from and yummy seafood and fresh fish.
The house has a nice yard which has nice plantings and if the bird feeders are kept filled, lots of birds and bird song.
The house has all the comforts of home (except a dishwasher and DVD Player),so I never felt I was lacking anything (except the DVD Player-lol). The bed was comfy, the shower and water pressure perfect!
I recomend this house and it's caring owner!
I would rent from Karen again!

This was my first time using VRBO, Karen was very good at addressing all my "first timer" questions. The property was clean and exactly as described. It worked out just fine. The area was very nice (but it was a little early in the season and many places and attractions were closed)
The purpose of our visit to the Sunset Beach area was not a relaxing vacation, but we could see that at another time, it could provide that experience. It was comfortable & suited our needs nicely this time around. The owner was very helpful & prompt in getting us settled, and also in the return of our security deposit. If you are looking for some quiet time, lovely surroundings, and comfort, this home will work for you.
Booked for the month of October. The owner went out of her way to accommodate our every need. Wonderful location and easy access. Had to leave early for a problem at home and the owner was kind enough to actually reimburse us for the rent plus a generous amount for some minor work we did. Could not ask for a better person to rent from.
Thank you, Karen
