About the property

Secluded, Romantic, Family Friendly And Cozy, Last House In The Valley.

Enjoy the privacy of the outdoors and be close to La Crosse for convenience! Here you can 'get away' from the world and enjoy the cozy and secluded comfort of the country. This is the last house in the valley and offers a serene view of the coulee. Deer and turkey will find their way to the field below the house and you will have the perfect sitting area to watch them feed and play.

In the winter, pack your cold weather wear and go for a walk along the creek or up the logging trail for a view of the coulee below. Bring your snowshoes for a winter walk. Or if you prefer, go sledding on the hill in front of the house. (sleds provided). What ever you choose to do, even if you stay indoors, you will enjoy the serenity of the valley.

If you like to ski, we are located just a few minutes from Mt. La Crosse.

If you are snowmobilers, the state trail is located less than a mile from the house and you can drive your snowmobile to the trail or drive your trailer to the trail, park and hop on from there.

We have a scenic cross-country ski trail, that is approximately a one mile loop.

In warmer weather, you can enjoy walks along the creek looking for fish and beavers or take a walk up the logging trail and see if you can spot a deer or other wildlife. Pack a picnic lunch and sit down by the creek and enjoy the sounds of water flowing over the rocks and the other sounds of nature.

At night, sit around the fire pit to relax and enjoy the outdoors.

If you want to venture out, La Crosse, Coon Valley, Westby and Viroqua are just a few miles away and offer various fun activities, dining and unique shopping. Or if you are looking for a drive and shopping through Amish country you are close to that as well. La Crosse also offers a wide array of dining venues, theatre, live music, art galleries and bars.

We are excited to announce that we added a new Bedroom and a good sized beautiful new bathroom in the lower level. The total for our home is now 5 Bedrooms with 2 King and 3 queen beds. There are three bathrooms, one in the master bedroom and also one on the upper level and the third large new beautiful bath in the lower level.

About Joan and Jerry

Joan and Jerry are local to the area and recently purchased the house and 10 acres with is attached to the family's original 100 acres of land. The property is will be drawn to look out the windows at the view! Being new owners...we are committed to making this a gem of a destination! We personally take each stay seriously and our goal is to make it the best experience possible for you.

Joan and Jerry purchased this chateau / country house in 2013

Why Joan and Jerry chose Southwest

This property is located on Joan's original family homestead. Joan's great, great grandparents came to Wisconsin from Germany and moved into Chipmunk Coulee in the late 1800's. Her Great Grandparents farmed this land and lived in the coulee, raising 7 sons. The historic hay barn that is located next to the house was built by her great grandfather and a neighbor in the early 1900's. The 10 acres of property was originally part of the family land and we are happy it can stay in the family! This land has been in the family for years and has provided us all with a lifetime of memories! We look forward to sharing the magic of Chipmunk Coulee with you!

What makes this chateau / country house unique

What is unique is that our last name is Unser, which in German means 'our'. We hope you enjoy your stay at Unser Haus!

Fantastic property

  • 5 of 5

We loved the location and secluded nature of this home. The owners were great communicators and everything went as smooth as possible. Absolutely beautiful area and a huge yard. Weather did not accommodate our wishes for more outdoor activities but the home worked out great.

Didn't want to leave, the weekend went too fast.

Loved the interior with all its beautiful wall colors and many windows that allowed the wonderful bluff views and sunlight in . Fully stocked in the kitchen and bathrooms. Joan and Jerry were so helpful in answering our questions before our stay. We will absolutely be returning in the near future.

Beautiful and relaxing!

  • 5 of 5

The home had everything you could possibly need. Plenty of room for us, 6 adults and 2 children. All the beds are very comfortable and the house was immaculate. The yard is huge and has a creek running through it. We had a bonfire both nights. Highly recommend this one if its peace and quiet you're seeking!

During the major holidays, Memorial Day, Labor Day, Christmas, New Years, Easter, 4th of July, we require a 3 nights stay (usually being Friday through Monday). This allows for us to have time with our own family.

We have had several large gatherings at our home/property. If you are planning a large gathering or special event at the house, there will be an additional fee. We must be notified about the gathering at the time of booking, and also need to know the number of people that will be attending. Also, depending on the size of the group and due to the house having a septic system, we may ask you to rent a porta-potty for your event.

Please feel free to contact us if you are interested in staying only one night during the week!

If you cancel your reservation 30 days before arrival, you will be credited the entire amount minus processing fees.
