Evenlight Retreat: Sunset Views, Hot Tub, Game Room, A/C | Eagle's Nest
Welcome to Evenlight Retreat.
The Setting - Evenlight Retreat sits high and deep inside The Lodges at Eagle's Nest, the gated Blue Ridge community that climbs to over 5,200 feet above Banner Elk. A wall of windows faces out at long-range, year-round mountain views, ridgeline stacked behind ridgeline, going blue and then gold as the evening comes on. It's a quiet, far-back corner of the community. Plan on about 20 minutes of winding mountain road from the Eagle's Nest main gate to the house, then a few more minutes down into Banner Elk. It's a drive worth knowing about before you book, and it's also exactly why it's so peaceful up here. The Eagle's Nest winery and the Sportsman's Grille are both within walking distance.
The Home - Three bedrooms and two and a half baths across three levels, sleeping 9. The main floor is built around the great room: that wall of windows, a stacked stone gas fireplace, a large mounted TV and high-end, deep reclining furniture you'll sink into after a day out. The kitchen opens off it, fully equipped for real cooking, and between the indoor dining and the deck there's seating for 11 at mealtime.
The Bedrooms - The primary suite is on the main level: a king bed, a TV, its own door out to the deck and an ensuite bath with a tub and a separate shower. Upstairs, a second king bedroom with a TV, and a bunk room with a queen bed plus a twin-over-twin bunk, the room the kids will call first. The two upstairs bedrooms share a full hall bath with a tub/shower combo. There's also a half bath.
The Game Loft - The upper-level loft is where the evenings go: a shuffleboard table, two arcade games and a flat-screen TV, plus a sleeper sofa for the ninth guest.
The Outdoors - Three levels of outside living. The main-level deck has room for dining al fresco and a gas fire table ringed with cushioned seating, right where the sunset lands. Down on the lower patio, the hot tub looks straight out at the view. And in the lower yard, a custom fire pit circled with Adirondack chairs, made for s'mores and long conversations. There's a gas grill for dinner.
Eagle's Nest Amenities - Staying here comes with access to the community's amenities: the Great Camp (BBQ pavilion, the amphitheater with summer concerts May through November, the Great Lawn, a playground, hiking trails, a seasonal ropes course and climbing tower, mini-golf and a 24/7 general store), the North Pavilion (basketball and pickleball courts, a ball field, a dog park, a walking trail and a fire pit), and Camp (tennis, pickleball, disc golf and archery, bring your own gear). Eagle's Nest Winery is a walk from the house, with day passes for guests 16 and up, and Epic Chophouse welcomes renters. Just mention you're staying in Eagle's Nest. The Fitness Center and the locked portion of the Sportsman's Lodge are for owners only.
Getting Here - The driveway is graded and paved. Eagle's Nest roads are steep and winding, and they get real snow and ice, so AWD or 4WD is HIGHLY recommended October through March, and chains may be needed in a storm. Cell service can be patchy on the mountain, so screenshot your directions before you head up.
Good to Know - Self check-in with a smart lock, so you can arrive on your own schedule. I'll send the gate code and your door code before you arrive. There are stairs between all three levels. The primary suite is on the main floor, so nobody has to climb to sleep. This is bear country, so trash stays bagged and in the bins. No pets. NON SMOKING PROPERTY. No parties or events.
Whether you're chasing first chair at Beech or Sugar, catching a summer concert at the Great Camp, or just watching the light change from the hot tub, Evenlight is built for it. I provide all the linens, towels and starter toiletries, and I'm local if anything comes up. If you have any questions at all, just reach out. I'm here to help! I look forward to helping you have a rejuvenating and restorative vacation filled with memories for a lifetime!

About the host
Hosted by Nick Reuter
Hi! I'm Nick, and along with my wife Kathi and our three amazing kids, we split time between sunny gulf-coast Florida and the beautiful North Carolina mountains. We moved south from Massachusetts back in 2017, but the Blue Ridge Mountains quickly captured our hearts! There's nothing better than knowing our guests are making memories in a place that means so much to our family. We're hands-on, responsive, and always just a message away to make sure your stay is perfect!

One of the home's most special features is its location within walking distance of Eagles Nest Winery, where you can enjoy local wine, live music, and beautiful mountain scenery without having to get in the car.
Camp Eagles Nest is the hub for many of the community's outdoor amenities, including:

You'll find plenty of restaurants, wineries, breweries, hiking, skiing, shopping, and seasonal events just a short drive away. What makes this property unique
When we first saw the house, we were drawn to the long-range mountain views and the western-facing sunsets. There’s something pretty special about sitting on the porch in the late afternoon and watching the mountains change as the sun goes down. In the distance, you can even see a Christmas tree farm tucked into the landscape, which feels like such a perfect part of the High Country.
We wanted this to be a place where people could really slow down and enjoy being together. Mornings with coffee on the porch, afternoons exploring the area or walking over to the winery, and evenings in the hot tub, around the fire pit, or gathered in the game room. And sometimes, of course, the best plan is no plan at all.
We also love that Evenlight feels tucked away in the mountains while still being close to everything. The winery is within walking distance, Great Camp and the many Eagles Nest amenities are nearby, and Banner Elk, Boone, Blowing Rock, and the surrounding High Country are an easy drive away.
We named the home Evenlight Retreat because of those long, beautiful evenings when the light seems to linger over the mountains. We hope you'll enjoy the house and the view as much as we do—and leave with a few good memories of your own.
