About the property

3 Bedroom, 2 Bathroom, 8 Sleeps

This beautiful family cottage is ideally located on a small point surrounded by peaceful Lake George, a small, quiet no-wake lake with great fishing and swimming, just 12 miles SE of Traverse City. The home features an eat-in kitchen with all appliances and amenities, two full bathrooms, a master suite with queen sized pillow-top bed and two smaller bedrooms with a shared door between them. One of the smaller bedrooms has a double bed, the other has a set of single trundle beds. (Note: you have to walk through the first bedroom to get to the second bedroom.)

Lake George is a quiet lake without public access. Motor boats (other than trolling motors) are not allowed, meaning that your vacation will truly be peaceful. Public access sites to both Arbutus and Spider Lakes are just minutes away if you have a motorized boat. The cottage includes a swimming raft, an aluminum canoe, paddles and life preservers of various sizes.

Please note that the Cottage is located in a residential area with permanent residents next door. As such, groups looking for a place for big parties or loud music should look at other properties.)

At the Miller Family Cottage you'll leave the hustle, bustle and noise of bigger lakes behind the minute you drive down the driveway. Once there, you'll see that the Cottage is a place to unwind, relax and reconnect. Yet the excitement of larger lakes, Grand Traverse Bay and Traverse City are just minutes away.

NO SMOKING, NO PETS. Minimum 5 night stay.

About Gayle Miller

Our parents purchased the cottage in the mid seventies when we were children and living in Traverse City. Our family moved to Alma in 1976 and the cottage remained a family get-away. After our parents retired, they spent every summer living at the cottage. They remodeled the kitchen and added a nice master bedroom. The house is filled with comfortable furniture and family history. Three generations of our family have loved the cottage and we're delighted to be able to share it with our summer guests.

Gayle Miller purchased this cottage in 1973

Why Gayle Miller chose Traverse City

The cottage on Lake George Trail is a lovely haven away from the bustle of Traverse City. You are just 15 minutes from all of the exciting things that the Grand Traverse Region has to offer. After a day of sightseeing, climbing the sand dunes, shopping or participating in the exciting events of local festivals, you can come home to a quiet and peaceful retreat. But you might also get so relaxed napping on the deck or lying on the raft that you never to go into town!

What makes this cottage unique

Once you arrive at the cottage, you'll immediately head for the lake, and within a few minutes you'll realize what a special place the cottage is.

Owner's Response: Thanks Angie. I'm glad you had enjoyed your visit. Sorry the weather was so awful for the Iceman! But I guess that's part of the race fun, eh??

Nice quiet retreat

  • 4 of 5

This was a very quiet lake which we greatly enjoyed. The cabin was well appointed, and clean. If this is your first experience with a rental, do not expect all to be as accommodating, and homey. We look forward to a return visit in future years.

Fun & Relaxing Vacation

  • 5 of 5

The property is just the right size and has all the amenities to make it a very enjoyable vacation. We loved the gathering around the bonfire and riding the paddle boat. The only item missing was a hand rail from the deck to the back yard. My balance is not what it use to be.

Owner's Response: Margaret, I'm so glad you enjoyed your stay at the cottage. And, thanks for your suggestion about the handrail from the deck. We'll work on getting that done for this coming summer! I hope you'll come again soon!

This place is absolutely perfect.

Thanks so much to our host for making this beautiful place available.

Fully appointed and well-kept. Situated on a point in Lake George with lake frontage wrapping around 3 sides of the cottage. You won't need to go far to be treated to fabulous vantage points. Plenty of amenities indoors and out. My boys had a ball swimming to the raft and taking the canoe or the paddle boat out on the lake while the old man supervised comfortably from the deck. Near all the Traverse City attractions, with a seriously relaxing pace when you're ready to get away from it all. Open the windows so you can hear the loons calling in the early morning. Can't wait to make a return visit to the Miller's beautiful place.

Peaceful and beautiful location

  • 4 of 5

The cottage is dated and filled with the owners personal belongings, which my family thought was odd, but didn't bother me.

We had our coffee every morning on the back deck facing the lake and in the evenings were able to enjoy a campfire next to the lake when we cooked hot dogs and marshmallows over the fire.

Our day trips included Sleeping Bear Dunes, Front St., Old Mission Lighthouse, and several trails and beaches.

We hope to return! Thank you :)

Owner's Response: Angela, I'm glad you enjoyed your stay and we'd love to have you again! Our cottage is a "family" cottage, and we still use it. Rather than stripping it of its personality, we like to think of it as "sharing" our family place with our guests. It is filled with family heirlooms and oddities that have been collected through the years. We love the weird stuff that has ended up at the cottage over the 40 years it's been in the family - everything there has a history! We look forward to having you again as our guests! Thanks so much, Gayle
