About Sally Melville
The family has owned this cabin since 1964, we gave it a complete makeover in 2013.
Sally Melville purchased this Cabin in 1964
Why Sally Melville chose Monte Rio
Jim Melville won at Keno in 1964. He bought this double lot on the river & built the cabin with the winnings. It was completely remodeled in 2013 to update it. We kept the fireplace & refinished as much mid-century furniture as we could to match the 'Groovy' butterfly roof. We all agree with Jim that this area is as peaceful & groovy as it gets

Beautiful cabin in picturesque Monte Rio
Great cabin with good amount of space right on the river. Close to plenty of outdoor activities in the area.
Thanks for staying with us and taking the time to review our property. We hope to see you again in the future.
We had a great time at the Cabin.
The location was perfect. We went into Jenner and up to Ocean Cove one day and had lunch, about a 40 minute drive north. Fantastic places to stop and check out the ocean. Shopping too. We even saw some whale spouts, super cool. We took one day and went to Armstrong Redwoods and hiked about. That was only a 10 minute drive into Guerneville. We had a great time. My friend and I each brought our moms, 87 and 90 and they were able to get around really well. The bathroom was perfect for someone with limitations and it worked out great for my mom. We took the canoe out and that was a blast even though the water was kind of low. Still really fun. All in all this was a great little getaway for us. Cute place close to everything! Thank you Sally!
Thanks Barbara for choosing our place, we hope to see you again soon.
River and Redwoods Dream
My wife and I, with our 2 Huskies, were looking for a place where they could run and romp free. This is the place! The home boasts wide open living and Kitchen space, a beautiful view of the river, tucked quietly in towering redwoods, stair access to the river and, a secluded peninsula all to yourself. We were there 3 days and never encountered another person on the peninsula. Highly recommended.
Glad to hear you enjoyed your stay. We look forward to hosting you and the pups again.
Very comfortable house for our long weekend on the Russian River.
Redwood Butterfly met or exceeded all our expectations.
Thanks, we're glad you enjoyed it. We look forward to seeing you again.
Pleasant get away
Comfy, clean and easy to get to. Grandkids floated down river to house from public beach. Bird watching from deck was part of the agenda. July 2018
We're glad you had a good vacation, we hope to see you again.
Nice open home in a great location, just a minute or two past the busy areas
We enjoyed our stay. Would stay again. Host was receptive and quick to respond to any questions.
The linens/throw pillows/shower curtain/washer could use some deep cleaning but everything else was tidy.
Stairs not as pictured (less stairs available) but all of us (including 3 year old) were able to make it down fine with some careful stepping.
Water at bottom of stairs was not swimmable but a short walk over the sand island (2 houses down) takes you to the main flow of the river and it was perfect height for our kids (1-2 feet in most areas). And it was not busy at all, other than the occasional kayakers, we were the only ones out swimming for the majority of our stay.
The open kitchen/living/dining areas is nice and spacious. The balcony was nice to sit out with coffee in the morning or eat a meal at the table. Would be great to have curtains on the windows so cars driving by or people parking across the street can’t see in during the evening/night hours.
Our home is tucked away under large second growth redwoods. We are located 5 miles for west of Gurneville CA and 7 mile east of the pacific coastline providing fantastic Sonoma county beaches. There are multiple good options for eating out. Canoeing, zip lining, golfing hiking, wine tasting are all at our doorstep, but meditating quietly under the trees is also allowed.
