Our riverfront cabin was completely redone in 2013. The full kitchen has new stainless steel appliances including dishwasher, microwave, washer & dryer. Handicapped access bathroom has extra large shower. Our 2 bedrooms each have queen bed, perfect for 2 couples or a family with children. There is a full size fold down sofa in the living room which sleeps 2 small people, or 1 big person. The large deck overlooks the river with a gas grill for entertaining. We have an outdoor firepit with seating for 6. The cabin comes with parking for 4 cars. We have seasonal river access via 3 sets of stairs with a canoe docked at the river & private island with sand/gravel beach. The water between the bank and island is 2 -3 feet deep in the summer. Perfect for kids to play in! Be sure to bring your water shoes! We have some loaners stashed with our equipment, mostly kid sizes though. We also provide life vests, sun umbrellas & camping chairs. We have cable TV and internet service in the cabin along with a DVD player, WII consul + Games. Everything you need for a fun river vacation!
The family has owned this cabin since 1964, we gave it a complete makeover in 2013.
Sally Melville purchased this cabin in 1964
Jim Melville won at Keno in 1964. He bought this double lot on the river & built the cabin with the winnings. It was completely remodeled in 2013 to update it. We kept the fireplace & refinished as much mid-century furniture as we could to match the 'Groovy' butterfly roof. We all agree with Jim that this area is as peaceful & groovy as it gets
Family fun has been happening here for more then 50 years. We sincerely hope it will continue for the next 500. Please email us with any questions about the cabin.
We had such a great time at the Redwood Butterfly cabin. We spent the days lounging in the sun on the little island and frolicking in the water and out on the boats. It was a blast. At night, the teens built a fire down at the fire pit and roasted marshmallows while I basked quietly on the deck and in front of the cozy fireplace. The cabin was perfect--kitchen very functional and we enjoyed eating every day out on the deck. Even though the cabin isn't large, it's very open and airy and has beautiful tall exposed wood ceilings. The decor is very pretty and it was comfortable to hang out there. The place is entirely private and the view is lovely.
Monte Rio is a small, peaceful community and redwood butterfly is a very comfortable cabin nestled in the redwood trees long the Russian river. Lots of activities to do during the day before coming back to the cabin to enjoy a Bbq, s'mores by the fire pit or simply relax on the deck. The modern kitchen is well equipped, bathroom is great and the bedrooms are very comfy. A top pick in the area!
We enjoyed our time. The house was nice and clean and had everything needed to cook. Location is great!
The house is beautifully decorated. There are many nice small touches that make the stay more special, we loved the binoculars and a bird spotting book. We had a lovey 2 night stay.
We really enjoyed our stay in this cozy cabin. The weather was wonderful and chilly, so the fireplace was used morning and night. I'm sure this place is super fun in the summer when you can use the yard and fire pit. Thanks!
Our home is tucked away under large second growth redwoods. We are located 5 miles for west of Gurneville CA and 7 mile east of the pacific coastline providing fantastic Sonoma county beaches. There are multiple good options for eating out. Canoeing, zip lining, golfing hiking, wine tasting are all at our doorstep, but meditating quietly under the trees is also allowed.
