Activities In The Area:
The Ranch House is minutes away from fabulous restaurants, the Pacific Ocean, mineral hot springs, biking and hiking trails. There are also endless opportunities for golfing no matter your skill level. The ranch is located in the heart of San Luis Obispo wine country and is literally steps away from wineries here in the Edna Valley, in addition to being within 30 miles of over 200 total wineries in the county.
Downtown San Luis Obispo is 6 miles away and features boutiques, restaurants, movie theaters, and the beautiful mission. Every Thursday evening you can stroll through Farmers Market filled with great food, live music and entertainment for the whole family. Downtown SLO also has many bars with live music Thursday - Saturday.
If you’d like to spend your day on the water, head to nearby Avila Beach, Pismo Beach and Morro Bay. Here you can enjoy a variety of activities including kayaking, windsurfing, boogie boarding and surfing. There’s also whale watching and deep sea fishing available. Oceano Dunes is the only place in the state where you can drive vehicles on the beach. You can also explore beautiful Montana de Oro State Park in Los Osos. Lopez Lake is just minutes away where you can spend time boating, skiing and fishing. San Luis Obispo enjoys a Mediterranean climate all year with an average of 315 days of sunshine and average temperatures in the high 70s and low 80s in summer and high 60s in winter.
Head north on the Pacific Coast Highway and you’ll see the quaint towns of Cayucos and Cambria, then elephant seals and Hearst Castle in San Simeon. A short day trip takes you further north to the redwoods of Big Sur, Carmel and Monterey Bay. South on 101 will take you to old town Arroyo Grande, the Danish Village of Solvang, and then on to Santa Barbara.

About the owner: Greengate Ranch has a history dating back to the 1800’s as a dairy farm, but is best known for its rise to international acclaim under the ownership of Jay and Dorothy Stream, who occupied the ranch from the 1950’s until 2012. The Streams, often in partnership with Jay’s client, the legendary Wayne Newton, bred world class Arabian horses after turning this majestic piece of land into a top notch horse facility. Jay Stream was a Past President of the International Arabian Horse Association (IAHA), inspired the Arabian Horse Society and was President Emeritus of the World Arabian Horse Organization (WAHO), having served as President for 31 years. His international recognition popularized the ranch as it became home to world class Arabian events and extravagant galas and auctions attended by celebrities, royalty and luminaries from the Middle East who traveled half way across the globe to visit Greengate Ranch. Jay Stream has since passed away and Dorothy Stream moved to Arizona. The property and all of its facilities had fallen on hard times and were in need of a substantial restoration project. A local family purchased the property in July of 2012 and immediately went to work restoring the grounds and structures to their previous grandeur. Virtually every structure, pasture, fence, and dwelling has been completely overhauled. A brand new riding arena and a 75 acre vineyard are the latest additions to the ranch. The owners take great pride in restoring this once proud property that sits at the gateway to historic Edna Valley. We aim to provide the premier ranch and vineyard experience in California.
