About the property

Three Bedroom 3 1/2 Bathroom Main House with Two Cottages with Bathrooms.

Imagine a private enclave within a short walk to the town of Sonoma, where your vista is lush hills and old oak trees. This casual wine country property is all about enjoying what Sonoma has to offer plus privacy, privacy, privacy. Located just a few blocks from the Historic Town Plaza this large secluded property, in the heart of Sonoma Wine Country, will provide your group with everything you need to make your stay wonderful, relaxing and memorable.

As you pass through the tall rock wall and old wooden doors you will immediately understand how special this property is and be transformed into serenity. Two sides of the property have high rock and wood walls that separate you from any viewers and provide you the privacy. The other two sides of the property are part of the Sonoma Open Space area. The gardens are planted with native plants like rosemary, lavender, heritage olive trees, flowering vines and populated with beautiful old oak trees. Just past the entrance, in the large landscaped front area of the property, there is a heated dipping pool and outside seating area. As you move through the pathway to the house there are multiple areas to explore and enjoy as well as places to sit and relax on the veranda porch or within the stone and plant landscapes. At the back of the property the patio area is a great place to grill and sit down for dinner or enjoy a glass of wine or morning coffee, and view the local hills. There is easy access to the kitchen from this area through huge sliding doors. You get a general feeling of indoor/outdoor living. Also in this area is a crystal clean hot tub.

Interior – Main House

The foundation of main house, which once belonged to General Vallejo, who was one of the largest land owners in California, was built in 1837. However, the entire house has been beautifully and painstaking remodeled in the last few years and brought back to its original style, with all the updates and comforts we have become accustomed to expect. Every window in the house opens and offers great views of the property and the surrounding hills.

There are three bedrooms in the main house. The two downstairs queen bedrooms have in-suite bathrooms, yet the bedrooms are far enough away from each other to offer privacy. The third bedroom is an upstairs king with an in-suite and working fireplace. The views from this room are of the entire property.

The large dining room can easily sit 10+ people and the house has all the dishes and cutlery and wine glasses you will need to serve your group. The large professional kitchen, with top of the line appliances is equipped with everything your group will need to show off their culinary skills. Or, if you feel so inclined, use our recommended chef and enjoy food prepared from fresh locally grown ingredients and great Sonoma wines. The main living room, decorated with comfortable antique and period pieces has a working fireplace, a player piano, and a large screen cable TV.

Guest Cottages (2)

Secluded and private studios, within a few steps from the main house, have great views and outside sitting areas. Each cottage, one with a queen and one with a king bed, have full bathrooms and kitchenettes with a microwave, refrigerator, sink and coffee maker.

Sonoma Style

With the lively town of Sonoma just moments away, you can experience the best of what wine country has to offer in your own private getaway. Walk to the Plaza, enjoy the old adobe storefronts, meandering alleyways, historic landmarks, acclaimed restaurants and wine tasting rooms, spas, cafes, boutiques, art galleries, vintage movie theater, vast town square lawn with picnic, playground equipment and the Tuesday night seasonal farmers market.

After enjoying the day in Sonoma, visiting the wineries, hiking the scenic trails (trail head across the street), just sit outside and enjoy more wine and cheese before deciding which of the great restaurants you can walk to, or chef prepared dinner. Or visit our local gourmet Sonoma Market and bring dinner home.

The main house and guest cottages all have high quality linens and towels, air conditioning, heating and WIFI. There is a washer and dryer in the basement of the main house.

Beautiful property with such character

  • 5 of 5

Visited this property in May with my two brothers and our spouses. Walked into property just amazed. Had such character and charm and had so much to explore. When you enter the house you have a mix of old and new. The kitchen was beautiful with large windows to view behind house and wild life. Property has two additional cottages that are private that are cozy and wonderful. We enjoyed spending time in the kitchen and family room and also enjoying the fire pit outside. Close to downtown area. We really enjoyed our stay.

Exceeded Expectations

  • 5 of 5

If we could give a 6 star rating, we would! We were looking for a special place to celebrate a milestone birthday. Since there were 9 in our group, we wanted a place that could provide a common area for gathering but also allow privacy for guests. With 5 BR / 5.5 baths and a large private property surrounded by stone walls that had over 10 separate unique outdoor areas, this is a destination within itself. Each day we explored the property and were amazed with the level of detail put into the restoration of the home and grounds. It's obvious no expense was spared when you see the appliances, furnishings, carpentry and property grounds all created with historical intent but modern convenience. Location is superb and is within walking distance to downtown shops, restaurants, etc. but yet removed enough from the crowds for privacy. We had Chef Marco prepare a phenomenal 4 course dinner for our group at the house one evening....hands down the best food and experience we ever had! During our visit we intended to make a day trip to San Francisco but the group voted to stay on the property and relish our good fortune. We know a good thing when we see it. Thanks Sandy and Graham!

This was the perfect place for us to be

  • 5 of 5

We recently traveled to Sonoma to celebrate our son's wedding and were fortunate enough to rent this property for our family during the festivities. It was a perfect place to be, a calming oasis in the midst of all the frenzy that often surrounds weddings. When people walked through the front gate, they were immediately intrigued by everything about the property...the sense of history, the absolutely amazing landscaping, the rustic cottages with lovely views and privacy, the main house with its awesome kitchen and dining room. It just couldn't have been any better. There was great attention to detail, it was immaculately clean and it was decorated for comfort. The property manager was very helpful as well, both before and after we arrived. I would recommend this to anyone who really wants a treat. Another nice perk is that it's an easy walk to the square, hiking trails and wonderful restaurants.

Stunning property in a perfect location

  • 5 of 5

This house has everything and is in a perfect location, walkable to the Sonoma square. The house sits behind a private stacked stone wall and the grounds are so well kept. We sat in the sun daily enjoying the property. The property is lined with lights and look just as nice at night as it does during the day. The owners have thought of everything. The kitchen is well stocked with cooking utensils and appliances, all high end. Each bedroom is welcoming and has high end linens and towels. I stayed in the casita that faces the pasture area out back and it was really nice. Both my casita and the smaller casita has their own AC unit, we only needed it the first day we got there and after showering to get a little air flow. The A/C units are not the obnoxious kind that hang out of a window. They fit into the wall and are disguised as art, a really nice touch. The light penetrating the main house is all day long but especially nice in the late afternoon sitting outside and watching the sun set. If you are the type traveler that likes to stay in a place that is well equipped, then this is the place for you. Highly recommend

Great Family Retreat

  • 5 of 5

This house exceeded all of our expectations. A great location to have our family event. The charm of an old farmhouse with every modern day amenity. The cottages provided the perfect solution for lodging and the grounds were a wonderful private backdrop for our get together. The convenience of a short walk to the center of Sonoma was an added bonus and Sandy was helpful and easy to work with.

The photos are lovely but the house and grounds in person far surpass them. What a wonderful home, location and space in general. So much attention to detail throughout, all needs of guests accounted for and very attentive management and owner. They afforded us privacy and made us feel welcome, but were there if needed. We have already booked our return we had such an incredible time. How can you beat feeling complete privacy and yet having the ability to stroll easily to beautiful downtown? perfect place for our group. Unforgettable trip!
