About John and Jani Meuchel
John and I grew up in the beautiful Bitterroot Valley and it will be our home forever. The saying, 'there's no place like home' is so true and we feel so blessed to live in such an amazing area.
John and Jani Meuchel purchased this House in 1946
Why John and Jani Meuchel chose Hamilton
My dad moved to this property as a boy when the neighbors in town complained of 'too many hound dogs'. He purchased the ranch from his parents in 1965 and my grandmother continued to live in this house for many years. We thought that many guests would enjoy the beautiful scenery and tranquility of the ranch that I was blessed to enjoy as a child.
What makes this House unique
This home was built in 1939 and is located on a working ranch and the views from the large living room windows are incredible. You'll enjoy many of the original features of this home. One of the many attractions is the fishing access right out the front door and you will love the gazebo right on the river's edge.

Unbelievable family vacation!
John and Jani have done an exceptional job making Grandma's house a perfect location for respite, peace, and family time. We took our children here for over 2 weeks to enjoy fly fishing, horseback riding, and being together away from our hectic lives, and my did Grandma's house not disappoint. John and Jani made sure to add to our stay and went so above and beyond for us--from suggesting places to go, hitching up a team of horses and taking us on a wagon ride, shuttling us to a tubing spot, loaning us tubes and life jackets, lettting our kids ride the horses on the ranch--they made our memories so much greater because of their attention to detail and willingness to go out of their way to ensure our enjoyment. The house is perfectly located for exploring the Bitterroot Valley, the decor is wonderful, the beds comfortable, and it truly does offer peace and quiet along the river--we enjoyed the horses immensely and spent many an afternoon in the gazebo and an evening around the firepit. Thanks John and Jani for offering Grandma's house to travellers. Our family shall NEVER forget it.
We had a lovely vacation in this quaint country house. The house was adorable. It was extremely clean and was fully equipped with everything you would need to make a vacation great.. The property is private and peaceful, located right on the Bitterroot River. The scenery is spectacular with beautiful mountains and pastures. The super friendly horses coming right up to the property was a special treat everyday. All of the family members we talked to and met while we were there were incredibly nice as well as very helpful. It really was a true relaxing vacation and we look forward to returning.
Bitterroot Celtic Games
Thanks to Cheryl Tenold for booking Swagger at Grandmas house. The property was beautiful & clean. We very much enjoyed our stay which made our performance at the Bitterroot Celtic Games even better. We hope to return next year. Thx Swagger
Enjoyed a three night stay here with our family of four. Such a peaceful and relaxing place to unwind! House is beautifully maintained and decorated and has all the amenities needed for a great stay. The gazebo overlooking the Bitterroot river was just perfect for enjoying that morning cup of coffee! Our family took an inner tube float down the river which ended just below the house, so quiet and relaxing! It was a pleasure meeting John and Jani and appreciate the time they took to take us out for a quad ride, such fun ! Will definitely be on our list of stays when we return for another visit. Thank you !! :)
Homey Stay in Beautiful Montana
Our stay in Hamilton, MT for a family reunion was made easier and much more pleasant by staying at Grandma's House on the Bitterroot River. The location of the home is perfect to travel to any place in the Bitterroot Valley. The house was perfect for four adults, a one year old and a rambunctious 3 1/2 year old! Our hosts, Jani and John, were wonderful and very accommodating! We will definitely stay here again in the future!
Wonderful time, relaxing, fishing, and visiting family
