About Jeff Wheaton

Four close friends came together to purchase this dream cabin to enjoy and share with others who appreciate all that the cabin and the mountains have to offer.

Jeff Wheaton purchased this cabin in 2014

Why Jeff Wheaton chose Lansing

We chose this specific cabin out of all others because of the beautiful view where most other properties don't even compare. The seclusion and the close proximity to bars, restaurants and shopping makes it perfectly convenient.

What makes this cabin unique

Long range mountain views overlooking the New River. All from the cabin's deck or while seated in the hot tub..

Great getaway!

  • 5 of 5

We had a great time at this secluded little paradise. Even though it feels like the middle of nowhere the town of West Jefferson was only 15 minutes away to do some window shopping. The home owner was great to work with and responded quickly to all our questions. Can’t wait to go back!

A weekend to remember

  • 5 of 5

This property is truly a gem and the owner, Jeff, is wonderful to work with. We were thrilled by the privacy afforded by the private road and steep driveway and the setting high on the cliff. The cabin was decorated beautifully, which helped us to feel instantly relaxed upon arrival. Everything was clean and cozy and well-stocked. We loved the mountain and river views- even in January- and the hot tub and fireplace were fantastic. We had a small complaint upon arrival (nothing major, just something small that was overlooked) and Jeff went out of his way to meet my request. Between his kind hospitality and the joys brought to us by the cabin and the surrounding area, we will definitely be returning to this cabin again. Some of our favorite day trips from this cabin were Grayson Highlands State Park, Elk Knob State Park, Linville Falls, Blowing Rock, and Pie on the Mountain for lunch!

Nice place Holiday stay lacking

  • 3 of 5

It is a nice cabin with a spectacular view. But for the holiday pricing the little things were not seen about. If owners realized how much families sacrifice to come for a stay especially when it is the huge rate increase, they might (might!) make sure the everything is taken care of. Our fireplace did not function properly and it stayed under freezing for the duration of our week long stay. Was given a small token back in refund. While we made the most of our stay, I will probably look elsewhere for the next time.

Owner's Response: Our first and only negative review in 3 years. This guest was extremely hard to please and although they contacted us several times a day and every day for general life questions, they never made any mention of a heating issue until post stay. That being said, we have since upgraded our gas fireplace.

Great winter get away

  • 5 of 5

It was all we were looking for! The cleaning lady was just finishing up when we got there and was super nice, giving us good tips about the area and the cabin. It was clean and well furnished. The beds and pull out sofas were comfortable. The hot tub was amazing and the view is not over-rated. There were 8 of us and even though the cabin only had 2 rooms it didn't feel too cramped up. The owner was very responsive even though we didn't have any issues it is nice to know you can call someone if you need to. Definitely recommend for a winter get away and I can only imagine it is a nice spot in summer too!

One of the greatest things about this cabin is that while it is seated atop a mountain's edge overlooking the New River and isolated down a wooded gravel road, you are only 15 minutes from an endless list of activities. There are countless restaurants, bars, ice cream parlors, shops that you could spend days in, a bowling alley, skating and a movie theater all within Jefferson and West Jefferson. And there's no need to worry about packing groceries for a long haul, in the same area you will find grocery stores like Harris Teeter, Food Lion, Lowe's Foods and Ingles to name a few. You will have no trouble at all finding something to do if you choose to leave the relaxing comfort of the cabin.
