About Jeff Wheaton

Four close friends came together to purchase this dream cabin to enjoy and share with others who appreciate all that the cabin and the mountains have to offer.

Jeff Wheaton purchased this cabin in 2014

Why Jeff Wheaton chose Blue Ridge Mountains

We chose this specific cabin out of all others because of the beautiful view where most other properties don't even compare. The seclusion and the close proximity to bars, restaurants and shopping makes it perfectly convenient.

What makes this cabin unique

Long range mountain views overlooking the New River. All from the cabin's deck or while seated in the hot tub..

One of the greatest things about this cabin is that while it is seated atop a mountain's edge overlooking the New River and isolated down a wooded gravel road, you are only 15 minutes from an endless list of activities. There are countless restaurants, bars, ice cream parlors, shops that you could spend days in, a bowling alley, skating and a movie theater all within Jefferson and West Jefferson. And there's no need to worry about packing groceries for a long haul, in the same area you will find grocery stores like Harris Teeter, Food Lion, Lowe's Foods and Ingles to name a few. You will have no trouble at all finding something to do if you choose to leave the relaxing comfort of the cabin.

Gorgeous Views

  • 5 of 5

This was the perfect cabin for our visit of four days. Three old friends spent time hiking, relaxing on the deck while drinking wine and enjoying the beautiful views which included starting the mornings with low clouds hanging in the valley and along the river and later clearing to Carolina blue skies and then changing to colorful sunsets. The location allowed an easy one hour drive for a bike ride on the Virginia Creeper Trail. Another day included a visit to Blowing Rock and of course we spent some time in quaint West Jefferson visiting galleries and the Ashe County Cheese Store. The cool days in early August were perfect. We achieved our goal of escaping lowland heat. It was a memorable visit.

Beautiful Private Getaway

  • 5 of 5

Four days here and we didn't as much hear another person. View from the deck was as good as advertised, everything was clean and in good repair. You're within reasonable driving distance of several gorgeous day hikes and this cabin has every amenity you could possibly need when you want to come back and take a load off. Watching the sunset over the mountains and the stars come up from the hot tub while your muscles relax is as good as it gets.

I will say, you won't be close to anything. It's a winding 20 minutes to West Jefferson for groceries, and 50 minutes to Boone if you want some good restaurants (Exception:The pizza place in Lansing is really good) or shopping. This comes with the isolation, though, and I wouldn't consider this a negative of the place, but rather I'm just trying to help anyone that read this plan their stay accordingly. We'd definitely stay again.

We had such a relaxing time here. Tubed and kayaked with my kids on the New River, soaked in the hot tub and just enjoyed the privacy and serenity of the place. We really had a great time. We're so thankful to the Wheatons for sharing their place with us.

The view doesn't lie, beautiful.

We love cabins with a view, some privacy but yet not too far from things to do, this one fit the bill perfect. Even though it rained, I mean really rained, two of the three nights, we had a wonderful time, I had only wished we had the chance to enjoy the decks and hot tub more. Upon arrival there were some things that were not perfect but this is no reflection on the owners, it would be the cleaning crew. Multiple piles of dog poop on the deck, near the bench glider in the front of the hot tub. I know weather had been bad for a few days, but that was really disturbing. I did notify the owner and took pictures and he was very apologetic, I did think the cleaning crew should have returned to handle it but they didn't. Jeff did allow for us to check in early but the place wasn't quiet ready so instead of looming around we went to Ingles for our grocery shopping. Bed, super comfortable, kitchen with just about anything you need. There is a K cup coffee maker there, I didn't see a regular coffee maker so keep that in mind. They even have a mini ice maker that pretty cool, crank it up early, makes enough ice for two easy. Cable is wired and not satellite so even in the rain we had the tube to look at and there is a dvd player in the master bedroom for those late night movies. Pie on the Mountain pizza joint in Lansing, great pizza, priced reasonably and GREAT, but it took an hour to get a carry out. I recommend Come Back burger joint in Boone and the Pedalin Pig as well. Wonderful county mountain ride into Valle Cruces to see the first Mast General Store, the place has a great history. I would stay here again, I just need better luck from the weather man! Thank you Jeff for letting us stay.

Amazing mountain and sky views from the awesome porch / deck. The hot tub was wonderful! Comfy bed, too. Everything we needed for a relaxing weekend away from the kids!
