Read more about this home in CityScope Magazine :

The home is newly built and features a large open floor plan main living area. A stone outdoor fireplace is located on the deck to keep you warm at night, complete with outdoor lighting and speakers.

The guest bedroom is cozy with a queen size bed and it's own private bathroom.

The master bedroom steals the thunder from the rest of the house. Lined with windows facing the valley floor, you are woken in the morning by beautiful sunrises and put to sleep at night with the sound of the waterfall flowing beside the house. Outdoor enthusiasts will be more than pleased with the rock climbing, hiking, cycling, and running available from the front door of the house.

Pictures are accurate! Love our stay here!

  • 4 of 5

Thoroughly enjoyed! You might want to know the road is very narrow and winding but you can guess from the view.

Idyllic Mountain Views with Modern Amenities

  • 4 of 5

My husband, daughter and I stayed at Lookout Mountain during a rare cool spell this summer, so I think we got really lucky with the timing. The property is exactly as described. You can tell a lot of love went into building the home. And, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The beds were comfortable, the kitchen was well-equipped, and the outdoor space was divine in the morning and evening.

The master bathroom, though beautifully finished, is not very functional at all (no door, so there's quite a bit of a draft and absolutely no privacy; open concept shower, so shower gets all over toilet area and beyond; it takes a ton of water and a long time to fill the tub even half-way, at which point no one can take a shower b/c you've used up all the hot water; countertop is not level, so your toiletries routinely fall on the floor; sinks are slow to drain; hot/cold settings on the vanity faucets are intuitive on one side, but opposite on the other side; the slip resistance on the tile is quite low, when it's dry, grippier when wet, surprisingly; etc...) Even so, it was quite nice to pretend that function doesn't matter for a week!

All in all, this was a very nice rental that met all of our needs for the week quite well.

That being said, there has been one thing that has left us with a slightly sour feeling about the whole experience - hence, the four-star rating. The owner asserted that we incurred damage, which we had no recollection of creating. After going back and forth a few times, we just conceded that it was not impossible that we were at fault, and just didn't realize it. Thankfully, we actually did get the travel insurance, which we never do, but which the owner strongly suggested we do, as part of the booking process, and that will be covering it.

I would just send a few words out to the wise for anyone looking to rent this home:

1) Certainly take pictures the MOMENT you arrive, if you find damage anywhere. My picture time-stamped 12 hours after checking in, which showed the damage clearly already there, was not good enough to convince the owner that we were not at fault.

2) Just get the travel insurance. The cost to repair the damage, according to the amount turned into the insurance company for the claim, was far higher than the original travel insurance cost.

Contesting anything about a vacation is incredibly tedious. I'm sure this home has lots of repeat guests - just not us!

Owner's Response: Virginia, Everyone is required to purchase the insurance for the property so things like this are covered. I imagine the damage was completely accidental, that's why I didn't cause a fuss or make a big complaint. In fact, I didn't even give you a negative review. Instead, I just took photos of it, and claimed it on the insurance. You have nothing out of pocket and don't have to worry about losing a deposit since I require all guests purchase the insurance instead of leaving a deposit. I don't like that your review is trying to scare people into thinking I am charging every guest for damages that they didn't create. I don't feel that's fair. I asked you if you knocked the two holes in the master bedroom wall, and you said you weren't sure. I'm pretty sure people know whether or not they have punctured a wall twice. The rest of your review is a little harsh, especially considering there are doors for all the bedrooms. The master bedroom actually has the largest, most substantial door, a giant, custom made barn door. Hopefully people reading this review will continue to scroll down and read the rest of the amazing 5 star reviews. I do, however, appreciate you at least keeping the rating 4 stars. Ultimately, I'm sorry that your experience wasn't the best due to the circumstances. I take a lot of pride in this property, building it with my own two hands, and I want all of my guests to enjoy it as much as I do.

Unique, modern house with a great view

  • 5 of 5

It's hard to find a place with clean, modern aesthetics in the South, so we were excited as soon as we saw the photos from the listing. The kitchen was large and well stocked. The house has a wide open floor plan. Clean angles abound with an abundance of natural light. Visually interesting pairings of stainless steel and wood appear throughout. It was very relaxing to spend time on the deck. We heard very little other than the sounds of the nearby waterfall, wind, birds, and thunder from the storms occasionally moving through below us.

There is a dramatic cliff on the property with a rather narrow, exciting trail running right along its edge. I hiked it as far as I could for casual exploration until I came to a point where it appeared some light scaling of rock might be required. Perhaps something I'll explore next time we stay. We saw a groundhog foraging outside the window, and our kids found a scorpion and all sorts of interesting bugs around the property.

It was a unique and relaxing experience. The modern and natural elements found both inside and outside of the house really make a vacation feel different from the norm. I'm pretty sure we'll be back .

Unbelievable View

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed this beautiful home on Lookout Mountain while we were celebrating our daughter's wedding. The house is stunning but also is comfortable with good beds and furniture----indoor and outdoor! The kitchen is well layed out with high end appliances but could use additional wine glasses and serving dishes. The home is well maintained.and clean, has good towels and toiletries. Our dog loved getting to be here with us! Thanks so much for our home away from home!
