Clean, well-situated and a good price

  • 4 of 5

Our son loved the chickens and we appreciated that the cottage was clean and very well-priced for the area. Easy check in and check out. Perfect for our stay and dog friendly!

Perfect place to stay

  • 5 of 5

This was my second stay at the cottage on Cattail Drive. Private, clean, all of the necessary amenities, close to several beaches, and I could take my dog on vacation with me. Fresh eggs every morning from a nearby chicken coop was the icing on the cake. I love this place!

Most RI Beaches are not particularly dog-friendly after Memorial Day

  • 4 of 5

Our family of 6 (mom, dad, 3 boys 10+ and dog) stayed in the cottage over Memorial Day weekend. After all was said and done we had a wonderful time on our trip to RI and the cottage was nearly perfect for us. Nearly.

We arrived at night and were a little confused by the driveway (it's a horseshoe so they're both right!) but made it in and got situated. I noticed an aroma of febreze, detergent or both. I am sensitive but it wasn't overpowering (however I was glad I brought my own pillow and towels).

One of the first things I noticed in the morning was the long grass in the yard. After taking the dog for a morning walk and despite his being up to dtate on fle/tick treatment, I pulled 3 ticks off of him. Over the course of the weekend we would pull at least 10 more off of him. It made it hard to relax because I was worried about ticks, but really RI is very lovely and we were enjoying each others' company so the panic wasn't constant.

We set off for Misquamicut, the beach that's advertised all over the description for this rental as a dog-friendly beach, as well as other places on the internet. I did my homework and it was the whole reason why we decided to go to Rhode Island instead of Maine or New Hampshire. Well, we got turned right around at the gate. No Animals Allowed. We eventually found a beach by chance off a trail near a stone building ruin and that was a lot of fun.

Some other notes:

The cottage itself is very basic and minimally updated, which I found extremely charming.

The bathroom was very small & the shower dark but the water pressure is unbelievable.

The queen sized bed is very high off the floor and very large for the room. It might be hard for elderly or mobility challenged people to move around or get into bed.

The TV is giant and equipped with Apple TV (& wifi).

The kitchen has a full sized range/fridge & microwave & plenty of room to move around to cook a few meals.

The area was quiet if not for a lot of low, small plane traffic due to the nearby airport.

We ate brunch at Meg's Milk Bar in Newport-- Australian cafe with great food & staff vibe

Shore Dinner Hall was fantastic-- order half what you think you can eat.

Holy Cow Ice Cream (Charlestown) & Crazyburger (Narragansett) were fun & delicious!

Waterfire in Providence was something to see.

So many other things we didn't get to do this time but we would definitely come back to this rental again. Thanks!!!

Lovely getaway

  • 5 of 5

The cottage is so sweet and picturesque. It was a really wonderful place to stay for a quick getaway, and the chickens provided some comedic relief. The cottage is located in a quiet neighborhood. Not a lot of light pollution so you can see the stars at night, which are beautiful. The drive to the beach was very quick, and there were plenty of nearby restaurants. Overall a fantastic place to stay.

Property being pet friendly was great.

  • 3 of 5

Property was clean. Not as close to beach as advertised but accommodated pets which was a plus. They need a bigger coffee pot and shades on the other bedroom window. Never did find a fire pit. Some confusion on how to pay final amount due. Chickens on property and access to fresh eggs was nice but didn't take advantage of it. Somewhat high for time of year but appreciate that the location is part of expense. Property is off the beaten path that's for sure. Sheets for beds didn't fit and pretty worn. Might want to take your own towels and wash rags as not enough provided for all. It was however quiet.
