Ask a questionAbout Bridie Brittain
My husband, Ben and I found and restored Jack's Cottage. Ben is an artist with lots of experience in building restoration, even learning to thatch while renovating the cottage. My background is in administration but my passion is traveling. We have traveled a lot, all over the world, staying in all sorts of places, so when we found Jack's Cottage we knew we could create a unique and special place for other travelers to enjoy. We have been hosting people here for 20 years and would love to share it with you.
Bridie Brittain purchased this cottage in 1996
Why Bridie Brittain chose County Waterford
We discovered Jack's cottage when we took a trip on the Blackwater river with some friends on a sunny Sunday afternoon in August 1996. Our friends knew Jack when he was alive and wanted to show us his home, which had been in his family for 9 generations. We scrambled up the bank of the river and made our way through the overgrown path to the cottage. Although the cottage was in a dilapidated state, it was love at first sight.
What makes this cottage unique
Staying at Jack's cottage is a wonderful experience, it is really off the beaten track, so it's very tranquil and peaceful, Assessed by a narrow farm lane, it may seem remote, but its only 20 minutes drive to the nearest towns of Dungarvan, Cappoquin or Youghal. Where you will find all the facilities you might need, such as top class restaurants, traditional music bars, banks, art galleries and lots of unique shopping opportunities. We are surrounded by fields and wonderful water meadows, where all sorts of wildlife and birds live peacefully beside us. There are otters in the river who visit our dock most days. Even after a couple of days most people are so relaxed when they leave, its almost as if they are floating on air. It really does have a magical quality.
