Beautiful beachfront house
This place was GREAT! Plenty of room, but not too huge. Loved the open concept in the main area, very easy to keep warm with the gas stove centrally located (looks like a wood stove, gas fired and controlled by thermostat - not the cooking stove!! haha) TONS of morning sunlight into the big glass doors on the south side. Panoramic view looking south so you get to see the sunrise as well as the sunset. Great place in the fall, so I bet its incredible in the summer. Holly was incredibly accommodating and responsive. The place was perfect when I got there. If I have to come out for an extended stay again next year, this is the first place I'm checking for availability!
A Dream Come True!
I have always wanted to stay at a beach front cottage and had the opportunity to rent this wonderful place, for three weeks, while renovations were being done on my home.
The timing was mid October through first week of November and the weather went from stormy to warm and wonderful! Exciting to watch the ocean change with the wind and I loved walking the area......literally, having it all to myself. Just beautiful and beyond relaxing!
Inside, everything is there! New appliances, comfy furniture and beds. Kitchen is thoughtfully
stocked, too, from spices, to tableware, small appliances, trays,......everything!
So, if you are looking for a wonderful stay, for yourself or your family, I highly recommend this home. The owner, Holly, is quick to respond to any questions you might have. The TV
didn't work, one night, (I had pushed a wrong button....) and the repair man, showed me how to manage remote, almost immediately.
I live on Nantucket but I never had visited Madequecham, because it's not one of the more popular and touristy beach areas. I understand from friends, that the beach here, is probably the most beautiful on the island. I agree!!!
Thank you, Holly, for sharing your home and creating such wonderful memories, for me!
Lovely Location With Easy Beach Access & Unencumbered Water Views
We enjoyed our stay very much as it is an extreme departure from where we live and we absolutely love easy access to the beach whenever we travel. This home surely provided that! Although not a particularly well-kept secret on sunny days, those who live on island and are "in the know" recognize it as a superb beach...so it's not possible to keep other beach-goers from utilizing the public access drive/parking areas when the sun it shining. Who can blame them though...it is a great beach and with no steep steps to have to negotiate to get there, it's an easy decision. We only had one person actually ask us if they could park in our driveway because there were no other places available to park given the volume of activity on the beach whenever the sun was out. It didn't disrupt our enjoyment of the location as we spent every morning walking our pup on the quiet beach before people started to make their way down the 2 mile dirt road from the main paved road to get to this spot. The neighboring airport didn't bother us at all as the flight paths of nearly all the incoming and outgoing air traffic was not directly overhead. In fact, it was interesting to see planes coming in and leaving from time to time and any airplane noise was brief either way. The interior of the home is adequate as a beach spot without there being anything particularly upscale about the finish detail. Everything worked as it should and it was very pleasant. We did not feel the need to use the window-mount air conditioning units that are available if one so chooses as there was a comfortable cross-breeze with the windows open. Having a dog we love as much as anything in the world, it was critical that we could bring our pup along on this adventure and he was completely comfortable making for a great experience all the way around. We were also able to capture some whale sightings right from the house which was really lucky and incredible to see! We would definitely return again should circumstances allow for another visit and I don't believe anyone would be disappointed with the property or it's location as long as they are aware that this is an "A+" beach that does indeed have public access directly adjacent to the home's private driveway which savvy residents and beach-goers know exists...not surprising on a small island. Enjoy it as much as we did and you will want to return as well! Thank you again for a wonderfully memorable time away!
Beautiful property and house!
Some of the privacy is lost with the public access road being right next to the house and the path to the beach, but the house is very comfortable and the views from the deck were breathtaking.
Nature and Relaxation
We were in for a treat at this beautiful home on Madequecham beach. The house was exactly what we were looking for...away from it all, yet steps from a beautiful beach. The home was well stocked with everything we could possibly want. It was very tastefully decorated and extremely comfortable for my family. We spent our days relaxing and swimming at the beach and our nights relaxing in the comfort of this home.
I was initially concerned that the water might be too rough for my 8 year old son, but he quickly felt comfortable without a life jacket. A short distance down the beach was a sandbar where all of the children on the beach enjoyed playing safely in the waves. During the day, we were thrilled to watch a pod of right whales feeding off shore. It was our own personal whale watch, without the boat ride.
The large deck was a wonderful place to relax after a day at the beach. The view was beautiful and relaxing. The house was welcoming and felt like coming home.
We had a wonderful stay!
Charming and Delightful Waterfront Cottage!
Our stay in this precious cottage on Madequecham Beach could not have been more perfect!! With just a trip to the market, adding some flowers and candles, we spent two glorious week enjoying the beauty of the wild yarrow, waves, beach, sand, --all of it! Nantucket is a jewel, and the Nelson Cottage is also one...and I might add, cozy and warm with a darling wood stove for rainy, windy days! The kitchen is fully equipped-right down to the lobster pot and accessories, which we enjoyed with a traditional lobster dinner, complete with special napkins!
Holly is responsive in the moment-every question answered immediately and any needed help given- we could not have been more pleased with the "nuts and bolts" aspect. Plenty of beach towels, washer and dryer, beach chairs and umbrella--all of the necessities are here. For any family or 2 couples looking for a perfect beach holiday, this rustic but charming cottage is heaven!!
