About the property

A 5 bedroom double in the heart of town!

Welcome! The Okra Inn is a renovated Camelback cottage in historic Mid City area on the Canal Street Car line. Enjoy a 10 minute walk to Bayou St John and City Park (home of New Orleans Museum of Art), and a 15 minute street car ride to the Historic New Orleans French Quarter. Around the corner from the famous Angelo Brocato’s and many other restaurant options. Blocks away from many other famous New Orleans restaurants, such as Mandina’s, Liuzza’s, and Katie’s. I also have tons of insider knowledge on exploring the City!

This house is great for larger groups, but it is not a party house .

About Lindsay Pick

I am a born and raised seventh generation New Orleanian, and am the co owner of Louisiana Lost Lands Environmental Tours, we provide educational kayak tours of Louisiana's vanishing wetlands primarily by kayak. Prior to owning The Okra Inn, I was the producer and writer for a PBS television series that focused on coastal land loss in Louisiana. I received a Masters in Urban and Regional Planning from the University of New Orleans program, where I focused on issues of flood protection and coastal restoration. I believe the survival of our communities is dependent upon public interest and involvement. Being a New Orleans native, I offer an extensive knowledge of the area, and I'm educated in southern charm.

Lindsay Pick purchased this house in 2010

Why Lindsay Pick chose New Orleans

The Okra Inn is a double, so it can be rented as a five bedroom or three bedroom place-both options offering total privacy for your group. (Note, the two sides do not connect through the interior of the house.) I chose this house because I fell in love with it 7 years ago- the stain glass and crown molding are hard to beat. It's a fantastic location in beautiful Mid City, convenient for the French Quarter, CBD, Uptown, City Park, Bayou St John, the Interstate and The Lake. And I'm located right next door and easily available for questions and advice on exploring the town.

What makes this house unique

New Orleans is a City for stoop sitting and chatting with neighbors and passerby's. One of my favorite recommendations is going around the corner to the seafood market and buying a few pounds of crawfish or shrimp and sitting on the porch with some beer. In the evening time they'll be plenty of folks on their way to the popular Venezia's and Angelo Brocato's down the street. It's a great way to people watch and even meet some locals. The New Orleans tradition is to do this in a laid back and respectful way-- the friendly neighbors do react to loud parties.

Place was perfect for our big group.

The Okra Inn is a great place for large groups. Roomy, comfortable beds, nicely decorated and in a great location. Lindsay is easy to communicate with and very accommodating. She was also very helpful with tips about getting around the city.

PERFECT for our large group!

  • 5 of 5

We rented the entire Okra Inn for ourselves and 12 of our wedding guests just this past weekend. We planned a New Orleans destination wedding & needed accommodations for friends located near my sister's home in Mid City.

We were absolutely delighted with our choice to stay at The Okra Inn. The home was spacious, clean, comfortable and in a fantastic Mid City location near 2 street car lines. The Okra Inn also had some awesome local art including some Muses Parade shoe catches & Mardi Gras Bead art!

Having a walgreen's nearby is also a bonus for folks on vacation.

We stayed Friday through Sunday and Lindsay was very kind and flexible with our check-in & check-out.

Lindsay was a lovely host with good

communication. We hope to celebrate future anniversaries in New Orleans and stay at The Okra Inn. Thank you for a fantastic weekend Lindsay!!

Highly recommended

  • 5 of 5

This is a great house in an awesome location! The front porch is great for some NOLA stoop sitting while enjoying a cold beverage and being part of the neighborhood. The house was very clean and comfortable. This mid-city location makes it easy to get to anywhere in the city. Lindsay was a great host and made us feel right at home.

Lovely NOLA home!

  • 5 of 5

We stopped in NOLA on the way to Destin from TX. I brought a girl scout troop of 10 girls and 5 moms to this cute duplex in Mid City, it was a little tight but we expected that. We loved the beautiful detail and design. It was so easy to get everywhere as the next street (canal) had streetcars. I recommend buying jazzy pass online for this. Lindsay had great recommendations for restaurants and activities. Thank you! I look forward to going to NOLA again!

A Dwelling Worth a Home.

  • 4 of 5

As a group of 15 men who like home cooking and ample time for resting after a good walk in the city, nice bathrooms; this is a worthy experience.

The welcome by Lindsay and explanation of our needs and requirements was just perfect.

We will stay again next time we are in NOLA.

ps. The 5th star would have been granted but the city sewage issue outside by the front parking spot is gross and the smell is sickening.

Charming as advertised

  • 5 of 5

Family and friends had a great time staying in both sides of the Okra Inn for the first weekend of Jazz Fest. It is charming and we enjoyed the artwork as well. The location is great for taking the the Street Car just across the through Walgreen's parking lot - very convenient. Our group used Uber, walking, Street Car and buses to get to the festival. It's a 20 minute walk or so. Some of our group had trouble with the buses after the festival and would recommend walking to the street car. Lindsay was always available when needed - we didn't even have to call. We would be enjoying the porch and see her coming and going and chat. Her dog Honey was very sweet. Some of the nearby places we enjoyed were Angelo Brucato gelato, Katie's restaurant, Ruby Slipper for breakfast and Chickie Wah Wah for music. Excellent stay at the Okra Inn.
