The apartment was just right for the two of us. At a very reasonable price and situated close enough to walk to the myriad of offerings that are accessible in this wonderful city.
José, our owner, went out of his way to make us welcome. We cannot speak more highly of our reception. The accommodation was exactly as described and we would give it our fulsome recommendation to others.
Wonderful host but...
We echo the comments of others who have stayed at this property... excellent host, good location but no hot water other than in the shower. Hard to wash dishes, "smalls", and shave with cold water.
It was a great pleasure to receive Janet, David and Ken.
We hope you have enjoyed your stay.
We usually receive tourists only in the summer.
We always had hot water in the shower, of course.
The technician's visit was scheduled to install hot water in the washbasins, which has already happened.
At this moment there is already hot water in the washbasins in the bathroom and in the service bathroom.
Dream vacation in Porto!
Our trip to Porto was great! Our host, Jose, was the main reason for our experience! He met us at the property (an updated apartment in a 300 year old home), and proceeded to take UA on a tour of the surroundings, showing us restaurants, shops and sights we might be interested in. Jose is a true ambassador for his city of Porto! He made it so easy for us to navigate the city and made it very easy to use our time efficiently since we only had 3 days in the city.
The apartment was a welcome place to come home to ta the end of the day. Jose has thought of everything that you would need. Definitely plan on returning some day. Would definitely recommend.
Jose went out of his way for us. He picked us up early to drive us to the bus station and on the way took us for a tour of Palacio do Fleixo, a gorgeous palace on the Douro River.
Can’t say enough good things about both Jose and his apartment!
Great place that has a nice authentic touch!
Really enjoyed the place. It was close to alot of the highlights, without being in it (so a lot less noise!). The owners were really nice with us and the even gave us tips of things to do and place to go visit/eat.
Jose was extremely helpful. He gave us a quick tour of the city center and showed us where to go for shopping and good restaurants.. The apartment was clean, however there was as a strong smell like mold or mildew that was overpowering.. We left early because the air freshener we bought did not remove it and there were not enough windows to adequately air in out.
You can use the subway stations 'Aliados' (yellow line) and 'Campo 24 de Agosto' (remaining lines, including the airport line). If you are driving look for the direction Freixo and then take the exit Campanhã.
You can start your exploration of Porto in the surrounding areas: look for the collection of historical azulejos in the Public Library, contemplate the bold baroque façade of the orphanage of Esperança, stroll in the Gardens of the faculty of Fine Arts or in São Lázaro; the cathedral and the medieval walls are not far either (even the local MacDonalds in Aliados has great architecture!). If you are into jazz music, the "Tribeca" club is a must; if you are looking for iconic buildings, visit the café "Majestic" and the "Lello" book store, not far away rises one of Porto's most important landmarks: the Torre dos Clérigos. The local cuisine is great: gourmets will be more than pleased with the neighbouring "Abadia" (Ateneu Comercial Street), "Escondidinho" (Passos Manuel Street) and "Rogério do Redondo" (Praça da Alegria, just next door to the house). For families and individuals, the Churrascaria Amércia is a great option, with extremely good-value and genuinely typical choices (try Sarrabulho and Febras!). Ribeira and Clérigos, the two hotspots of Porto nightlife, are also within walking distance (15 min). To go to Ribeira you can also take the scenic funicular of Guindais. Within walking distance, also lie the way the famed port cellars (via the bridge to Gaia), the cathedral and the city walls and to the Casa do Infante, the house where Henry Navigator was born, and the nearby attractions.
